Background

Lü Yi was a maid of Myriad Splendor Tower. Though born to an ordinary household, she received training in etiquette, poetry, literature, and bearing as part of the tower's upbringing of its servants. Her circumstances at the tower were considerably better than those of ordinary people, as shown by her fine clothing and fur-lined winter garments. 273

After regaining her freedom, Lü Yi personally asked Jiang Ning to take her in. Lin Qingyi also intended for her to attend to Jiang Ning's daily life so he could cultivate without being delayed by household matters. Lü Yi pledged that she would not reveal his secrets even under torture, and stated that staying by his side was her own cherished wish. 263
