Ch. 601Upper Yang Inner Landscape, the Sword Immortal from Another Realm!
Key plot points and events
- After forging all 206 bones to gold and completing his sixth blood exchange, Jiang Ning discovers his blood contains Divine Radiance. Even one drop is extremely energy-rich, so he carefully swallows it rather than waste it.
- Prepared to explore, he activates his Shangyang Immortal Sect true disciple token and enters the sect’s Inner Landscape Grounds. He arrives beneath ten suns, at a gate overlooking a vast, mist-shrouded complex.
- The landscape flickers between a peaceful, intact scene and one of devastation: ruined buildings, fallen pillars, and a huge fissure. Jiang Ning cannot use his Heavenly Eye or Fire Eye because he is present only as a soul.
- He meets Shen Yue Ru, a red-clad true disciple from Crimson Radiance Grotto-Heaven. She explains that the Grounds are a spiritual world where visitors’ souls meet, and that the Shangyang Immortal Sect disappeared into the River of Time. Though much of the place is ruined, what remains can aid cultivation.
- Shen urges Jiang Ning to abandon the Martial Dao for the Immortal Dao, arguing that his talent deserves the “proper” path. Her claim that a third-rank martial artist is inferior to a Yin Spirit cultivator conflicts with Jiang Ning’s experience.
- Their conversation reveals they come from different realms. Shen has never heard of Great Xia or Jiang Ning, and Jiang Ning concludes that Martial Dao power differs between worlds.
Character developments and interactions
- Jiang Ning enters the Grounds only after preparing himself through major cultivation advances. He is cautious, observant, and increasingly confident in weighing others’ claims against his own knowledge.
- Shen Yue Ru is initially imposing, then becomes welcoming and teasing, calling Jiang Ning “junior brother” and offering to help him join Crimson Radiance Sect. She is also confident in her sect’s teachings and dismissive of the Martial Dao.
- Their exchange shifts from a senior guiding a newcomer to a revealing discussion about their different worlds and cultivation systems.
Significant themes
- Worlds with different rules: The strength and status of the Martial Dao vary across realms.
- The passage of time and loss: The Inner Landscape’s alternating states suggest a once-great sect now damaged by the ages.
- Knowledge and perspective: Jiang Ning’s experience challenges Shen’s assumptions, while their disagreement exposes the limits of each character’s worldview.
- Opportunity and cultivation: The Grounds offer rare benefits, but Jiang Ning’s arrival also forces him to reconsider how his own path fits into a wider cosmos.
