"I'll call an ambulance for you."
Su Xing forced himself to his feet, putting on a somewhat nervous smile as he said,
"It's fine. I can still walk. No need to call an ambulance for me."
"Officer Liu, there's nothing else for me to do here, right?"
"Nothing else. You can head back first."
"If you can, get yourself checked out at the hospital. Look at all those injuries on you."
Liu Ming pointed at Su Xing's wounds.
Under normal circumstances, he would have personally taken Su Xing to the hospital. After all, he was Su Yu's older brother. But with something like this happening, all his thoughts were focused on how to deal with the Spirit Cult.
"Um... Brother Su, do you want me to take you to the hospital?"
As Su Xing passed Bai Lan,
she suddenly said this in a low voice.
Looking at Su Xing, Bai Lan's heart ached. If such a handsome man got disfigured, that would be her loss!
"Hey, Miss Bai, your case hasn't been resolved yet. You can't leave right now."
The moment Liu Ming heard Bai Lan, he immediately cut in. He knew a little about Bai Lan's personality. He couldn't let Su Xing whisk her away.
Hearing Liu Ming's words,
Su Xing smiled and left.
After Su Xing limped away, only Liu Ming and Bai Lan remained.
Bai Lan said gloomily,
"Why did you stop me from picking up a man?"
"You're still thinking about picking up men? That mysterious expert and Xue Cheng nearly tore this mountain apart! The commotion here was huge. Go deal with the aftermath first. Don't let the innocent residents find out."
"Tch..."
Bai Lan stuck out her tongue, but she knew the seriousness of the matter and did not say anything else. She merely asked,
"Liu Ming, what are you planning to do next?"
"Hold a meeting."
"We won't concern ourselves with the mysterious expert. Although he's extremely strong, he hasn't affected us."
"We'll focus all our efforts on dealing with the Spirit Cult. They've already begun sending out third-tier Sequence users. We can't keep defending any longer. We have to start attacking. We have their list of blood priests. Next, we kill them one by one!"
After leaving the hill,
Su Xing suddenly felt his entire body quiet down.
The nighttime road was as calm as water. He was the only one bathed in moonlight, walking step by step toward the sword dojo.
Tiny specks of white energy beside him flowed into his injured areas like lively sprites. Waves of tingling sensation filled his body before eventually rushing to his brain, making Su Xing unable to stop himself from smiling.
The injuries on his body were healing at an unbelievable speed,
as if he were "regenerating health after leaving combat."
Once Su Xing left the hill and entered a safe state, the black sword inside him began frantically drawing in the surrounding energy to repair his body. In barely a few blinks, the wounds on his body began to scab over before returning to normal.
If Su Xing could not still smell the heavy stench of blood in his nostrils,
he might even have doubted whether he had truly fought Xue Cheng to the death earlier.
Once the white energy around Su Xing gradually faded, he stopped and touched his healed skin. It was pale and smooth yet resilient, with no trace of injury visible at all.
"So the [Mortal Sword] can do this too."
Su Xing could not help but sigh. He then looked back at the distant hill, now swallowed by darkness. There was no one left atop it. Clearly, Liu Ming and Bai Lan had already departed. He wondered what actions the special department would take after this, then shook his head and thought to himself,
As long as those Spirit Cult people don't interfere with Su Yu and me, it has little to do with me. If they insist on coming to die, then the sword in my hand is not dull either.
"Holy shit, bro, why are you here?"
Just as Su Xing was lost in thought, he suddenly heard a somewhat familiar voice in front of him. Su Yu, dressed in a black short-sleeved shirt and brown jeans, blended into the night and was difficult to make out clearly. Shen Ruyun stood beside him. The moment she saw Su Xing appear out of nowhere, her whole face stiffened, as though she had been caught cheating.
Of course, the two of them could not possibly be cheating. The moment Su Xing saw Su Yu and Shen Ruyun, he immediately understood. They must have received a message from the organization calling them over. They probably did not yet know what Su Xing had just told Liu Ming.
"You're asking me? Why are you out in the middle of the night instead of sleeping?"
When Su Xing asked that, Su Yu's words got stuck in his throat. After thinking for a long while, he finally took out his phone and handed it to Su Xing to look at. Then he cleared his throat twice and said,
"Ahem, bro, it's already past four in the morning. Shen Ruyun and I came out to watch the sunrise."
"The sunrise? How refined."
Seeing his younger brother make excuses, Su Xing found it rather amusing. He stepped up beside Su Yu and patted his shoulder. "Be careful coming out in the middle of the night."
"Don't worry, bro."
"Take your time watching, then. I ran into something tonight, and I'm really a little tired. I'll head back first."
Su Xing yawned. After chatting with Su Yu for a few more moments, he returned to the sword dojo to rest.
After Su Xing left, a message popped up on Su Yu's phone. He took it from his pocket and opened it. The pale screen light shone on his face, glaring in the pitch-black surroundings, but he saw the contents of the message.
There were two in total.
The first had been sent ten minutes ago, telling them to assemble immediately for a meeting.
The second was a supplemental message that had just been sent: [It has been confirmed that roughly half an hour ago, on a hill not far from where Su Yu lives, Su Yu's brother Su Xing was attacked by Spirit Cult blood priest Xue Cheng. He narrowly escaped disaster after a mysterious expert stepped in and killed Xue Cheng. The Spirit Cult's actions are becoming increasingly blatant. We must act immediately.]
When Su Yu saw that message,
a surge of anger instantly rose from his abdomen. The force with which he gripped his phone unconsciously increased severalfold, until cracks appeared across its surface. Only then did he come back to his senses.
Su Yu recalled how Su Xing had looked when they met just now, completely relaxed, as if nothing had happened. This senseless disaster had clearly been brought about by him. His brother had clearly nearly died. Yet Su Xing had pretended to be at ease so that he would not worry.
The more Su Yu thought about it, the more his teeth itched with hatred. He wished he could skin the Spirit Cult alive and pull out their tendons.
"Fuck the Spirit Cult..."
Su Yu cursed through gritted teeth.
The Sequence energy within his body began resonating in sync with his emotional fluctuations. Then a burst of air suddenly spread outward from Su Yu as its center, forcing Shen Ruyun, who stood nearby, to take two steps back. She stared at Su Yu in surprise and murmured,
"No way... You broke through to the second tier just like that?"
Su Xing returned to his room.
He threw himself into bed with a thud.
Lying on the bed, Su Xing turned over and stared up at the ceiling. Over and over, he replayed his two recent battles in his mind. His strength was clearly greater than both Lou Zhen's and Xue Cheng's, yet when they truly fought, it had not been easy to finish them. It felt as though he were still lacking something.
Only just now did he suddenly understand why.
It was actually very simple... His fighting style was too straightforward, while his opponents' Sequences had all kinds of ways to avoid fighting him head-on.
Su Xing's method of dealing direct damage would always put him at a disadvantage against enemies like Lou Zhen and Xue Cheng.
The solution was equally simple.
Either he obtained sword techniques capable of producing special effects,
or Su Xing found a way to prevent his direct damage from being mitigated by his opponent's Sequence.
If he could achieve either of those two things, then dealing with Xue Cheng and Lou Zhen would likely only take one or two strikes. There would be no need to spend so much time.
But while it sounded simple, how could it be easy to accomplish?
In the end, Su Xing had only reached this point through his own talent and the system. He was not a martial artist who had truly trained his way up step by step, so he could only rely on the system. Yet so far, Su Xing had not grasped a way to make the system grant him new sword techniques.
[Thrust lv5 (986/1000)]
Su Xing's gaze fell on the system panel, and he muttered,
For now, he could only place his hopes on the sword technique "Thrust."
Hopefully, "Thrust" would evolve into the sword technique he needed.
If that failed... then at worst, he would simply rely on overwhelming force. No matter who you were or what Sequence you had, as long as his sword technique level was high enough, he could still kill you in one slash.
With that thought,
Su Xing closed his eyes.
He prepared to make up for the energy he had lost over the course of the day.
Sunlight streamed through the window,
leaving one small golden trapezoid after another in the room.
