Ezra Hughes leaned back, the anger on his face already gone, leaving only a deep, searching scrutiny.
Were there really that many people placing their hopes on a fifteen-year-old boy? To the point that two... or even more Congress officials had become lobbyists?
He glanced at Grim, then let his gaze settle on Reginald Perez.
That arrogant bastard only ever cared about his own little patch of land. Everyone else looked like walking sweet potatoes to him. Since when had he ever cared about "the people's expectations"?
Lyla Piquery looked around. Her hands were elegantly folded before her on the table, and her expression carried just the right amount of concern.
"Mr. Perez has a point. Inviting Mr. Wade Gray is indeed the most efficient strategy at present. We should be open-minded, break with convention, and place resolving the crisis above all else."
Corbett tugged his lips into a smile and raised his hand. "Agreed! Best case, he solves it. Even if he can't... public pressure will at least be redirected."
The room erupted into discussion, and quite a few people could not help showing agreement.
The panic from first seeing the video and the overwhelming pressure had long since turned, through endless days and nights of work, into a hatred for their jobs. The situation had not actually become as bad as it could be, but the spreading panic had worked everyone like dogs.
If one person's arrival could calm the boiling situation even a little and give them a moment to catch their breath, then naturally everyone would welcome it.
What was more, once the "expert" arrived, the trouble and crisis could seemingly be wrapped up and tossed over to him together, because no one wanted to shoulder responsibilities beyond their own capabilities.
Everyone could see it clearly.
