Water sprayed everywhere as Black Dog leaped up and shot out of the underground garage like a cannonball.
The sound of rain instantly grew several times louder. Rain poured down onto them with rapid patters, and all she could see was a chaotic grayish white!
This barely even counted as rain—it was like a heavenly lake had burst and flooded the earth!
The woman hunched her back to shield the child in her arms from the rain, barely managing to open her eyes and look around.
The streets had become muddy yellow rivers. Thick trees lay fallen by the roadside, while trash bins floated along in the water.
The power grid had completely failed. There were no streetlights, no shops still open for business—only the torrential rain hammering against the buildings, producing an urgent, apocalyptic echo.
Only after rushing outside did the woman realize that the water on the road was nearly calf-deep. The swirling current gurgled as the sewers greedily swallowed the floodwater.
But in some places, the drainage systems had already been overwhelmed. Groundwater surged upward in reverse, and the spots where manhole covers had once been were violently spewing sewage.
The woman could not help shuddering.
If someone stepped on one by accident, they would fall straight in, wouldn't they?
She clutched the child tightly while instinctively pressing herself close against the speeding Black Dog.
She had thought that leaving the underground garage would mean returning to a warm home, but in truth, she could not even find a safe place to set foot.
