Braun laughed, not the least bit surprised.
"Of course we're going to see what inheritance dear Ms. Liana left us. Someone like her wouldn't trust even a bank. So I'm guessing we'll find quite a few interesting things in her home."
As he spoke, he casually broke into an old truck parked by the roadside. After bending down and tinkering with it for a moment, he got the engine running.
"What luck, we don't even need to refuel!" Braun said as he looked at the dashboard. Then he rolled down the window. "What are you waiting for? Get in!"
"We're still digging into Liana?" Abigail opened the door and asked, "Didn't your companions take her back for interrogation?"
The Acolytes had never cared about due process. With Veritaserum and the Cruciatus Curse used together, what intelligence could they not extract?
The truck shot forward in a cloud of black smoke. Braun gripped the steering wheel and said helplessly:
"You're one of the Scourers' key members too. How can you not understand something this simple? The larger an organization is, and the more people it involves, the slower and more cumbersome it becomes."
"But Liana was carrying out an operation tonight. Her accomplices should know that too."
"If word doesn't get back in time, their people will know something has gone wrong. They'll immediately evacuate and destroy the documents, and some important intelligence may vanish forever."
"Speed is everything in war. Sometimes, all we need to fight for is a little more time!"
Abigail was speechless.
