Background / History

Years before the events in District 33, Ghost assassinated Black Brother's wife with a crossbow bolt. Black Brother spent years investigating the killer but could not find evidence against him. 42

By the time of his contract against Lin Yun, Ghost had worked as an assassin for more than a decade and was considered Azure City's third-ranked assassin. At least five peak Martial Apprentices had previously died at his hands. 25 28

Ghost was a ninth-stage, or peak, Martial Apprentice. He considered a seventh-stage Martial Apprentice an easy target and could break the Rockback Beast's defenses with his short blade. 24 27

Story Role / Major Arcs

Contract to Kill Lin Yun

Ghost enters District 33 behind Lin Yun under Wang Dalong's contract. After observing Lin Yun instantly kill two mid-stage Rank One Claw Rats, he determines that the target is at least a late-stage Martial Apprentice rather than the reported fourth level. He refuses to proceed without an additional one million yuan. 22

Pursuit Through the Ruins

Ghost continues shadowing Lin Yun as he battles an Ironclad Turtle, waiting for a favorable opening. When Lin Yun is occupied by the Rockback Beast, Ghost fires his crossbow and wounds him in the abdomen, then pursues him into a partially collapsed office building. 23 24

Death

Lin Yun destabilizes a load-bearing pillar, collapsing part of the building and forcing Ghost into combat with the Rockback Beast. After Ghost kills the beast, he follows a deliberately planted blood trail and is ambushed from behind a fire door. Lin Yun stabs Ghost twice in the abdomen, then cuts his throat, killing him. 24 25

Posthumous Impact

Lin Yun takes Ghost's short blade and satellite phone, then uses the phone's call log to identify Wang Dalong as the person behind the assassination attempt. Much later, Black Brother's files reveal Ghost's role in his wife's murder, explaining why Black Brother had saved Lin Yun and claimed Ghost's crossbow. 26 42

• Ghost's patience was explicitly likened to that of a lone wolf stalking prey. 23
• He underestimated Lin Yun because Lin Yun was badly wounded and had lost significant blood, a misjudgment that directly enabled Lin Yun's trap. 24 25
