The tremors came from underground.

Both Bai Ye and Magellan inside the research station could feel them, as though something were writhing beneath the ground.

"It's here..."

Bai Ye lowered his head and glanced at the ground beneath his feet, then leaped a step to the side.

"Boom—"

The moment he moved away, the spot where he had been standing collapsed, leaving behind a massive hole.

A huge mass of black matter crawled out of the opening.

It was an enormous, amorphous, glossy black entity that gave off a strange stench and a faint glow. Pus-like eyes shining green constantly formed and dissolved across its surface.

Its body was enormous, at least four meters tall. The massive elongated form emerging from the hole made it look like a subway train.

"What is that thing?!"

Magellan's eyes widened. The raging blizzard allowed her to see only the vague outline of the enormous monster crawling from the hole, but that single glimpse was enough to fill her with terrified shock.

The massive monster let out an indescribable shriek as it wriggled across the ground, constantly changing its shape. Perhaps because of the blizzard and the low temperature, it was somewhat sluggish at first.

Although it could survive both on the seafloor and on land, it still needed time to adapt to such extreme cold.

Bai Ye threw the glass culture dish in his hand, and the sturdy glass container struck its body.

Its protoplasmic form enveloped the culture dish. With a teeth-grating sound, the monster crushed the glass vessel to pieces, and the swollen bubble of protoplasm that had bulged around it deflated once more.

Then, the monster turned toward Bai Ye. No—because it had no head, Bai Ye could only sense that it was directing its attention toward him.
