Han Fei was stunned. You can execute them too?
But since he was already here, there was no reason not to try. With a thought, Han Fei selected Execute.
The next second, as if by instinct, Han Fei performed Golden Rose's execution move.
He reached out and patted the Internal Guard on the shoulder. The man instinctively turned around, and the moment his crimson gaze fell on Han Fei, Han Fei suddenly shot out a hand and seized him by the throat.
"What?"
The Internal Guard immediately tried to struggle.
But Han Fei's strength was terrifying at that moment. The hand around his throat was like an iron vise, and no matter how hard he fought, he could not break free.
The grenade launcher in Han Fei's hand spewed blazing fire, scorching the Internal Guard's face.
At last, the Internal Guard lost his composure. "Stop this at once! Do you know what consequences this will bring?!"
Han Fei had no intention of indulging him. He shot back, "What the hell are you babbling about? When you butchered our companions, did you ever think you'd have a day like this?"
The next second, the intense heat pierced through the Internal Guard's mask, and flames burst out through its eyeholes.
The execution was neither long nor short. Before anyone present could react, Han Fei had already thrown the Internal Guard to the ground.
The black-coated body promptly vanished, replaced by a small rectangular box.
"Huh?"
Han Fei was dumbfounded. I killed so many Enforcers before and never saw a box. They all left corpses. So why did you turn into a box?
That makes no sense. Is it because those Enforcers were too pathetic to qualify as boxes?
Han Fei could not figure it out.
But now that the box had appeared, why would he worry about that? He immediately reached out and opened it.
The looting interface appeared again, accompanied by the fury of the Internal Guard who had been watching from nearby.
"Yan man, what have you done?!"
Han Fei ignored him completely and immersed himself in looting.
There really was good stuff in this Internal Guard's box: an intact level-four armor vest, a level-four helmet with no durability left, and, aside from that, a tiny one-slot item in his backpack.
Han Fei had assumed there would be nothing valuable inside. After all, this was a normal match's drop rate.
Yet the item in the Internal Guard's bag took quite a while to identify.
When it finally finished, Han Fei was utterly stunned.
"Holy shit, what kind of red is this?"
A tiny one-slot red item lay quietly in the Internal Guard's bag: [Demon Fragment].
Without wasting another second, Han Fei shoved it into his secure container and closed the looting interface.
The instant the interface closed, a faceted crystal appeared in Han Fei's hand. He casually flicked it before putting it away.
"Whoa, it even has an inspection animation."
The moment he said that, Han Fei looked up and found himself face-to-face with a mask whose eyes blazed red.
Han Fei had some nerve. Even knowing that the Internal Guard was already enraged, his nature made him tease the man anyway. Grinning, he said, "Yo, hello there."
Naturally, an Emperor's Blade would not be affected by such a petty trick. Besides, he was already furious and had no interest in Han Fei's joking around.
"Yan man, do you know how severe the consequences are for killing an Emperor's Blade?"
"I do."
Han Fei blinked and told him, "I know very well what is inside your bodies. This so-called 'country' might be a secret to Ursus people, but it isn't exactly a closely guarded secret to me."
That statement actually startled the enraged Internal Guard.
Almost no one in the entire Ursus Empire knew that Emperor's Blades carried Demon Fragments within them. How could Han Fei, a Yan man, know such a secret?
Confrontation
The Internal Guard had initially believed that Han Fei had killed an Emperor's Blade only because ignorance had made him fearless.
But judging by his tone, he did not seem like a brainless brute.
Combined with Han Fei's identity, the Internal Guard could not help thinking of the country behind him.
Could Yan be plotting something behind this?
Seeing the Internal Guard fall silent, Han Fei quietly opened his backpack and glanced at the tiny red item in his secure container.
This Demon Fragment looked rather mysterious. It was a faceted, translucent crystal that constantly shifted colors inside the secure container—pitch-black one moment, deep purple the next, then dark green.
But that was not the important part. The important part was that it could be inspected!
Looking at that inspection option, Han Fei's fingers itched.
What was the best feeling in Delta Force? Getting a huge red item?
No. It was getting a huge red item and showing it off in front of your enemies!
Who knows the feeling of pulling out a Heart of Africa and locking down Liu Tao's fully geared squad for thirty seconds?
Getting mad from embarrassment? Whatever. This little rat had already had his fill!
Han Fei was getting restless now. He wanted to inspect the newly acquired tiny red item again.
In theory, the Demon Fragment should never come into contact with reality, because the moment it did, it would go boom!
But Han Fei had already inspected it once without any problem, so now he really wanted to do it again.
As for why it would not go boom, all he could say was that GTI had stepped in.
The backpacks of us GTI Superhumans are extradimensional spaces. Even if our backs are riddled with holes, not a single item in our bags will be damaged!
Forget keeping it in the bag. Even if you held a Mandel Supercomputer in your hand and inspected it, it would remain perfectly intact whether you got shot or even took a grenade!
That was the spatial ability of us GTI Superhumans!
Just as he was thinking that, a set of heavy footsteps suddenly sounded.
Han Fei glanced to the side and saw that Patriot had arrived.
"Father," FrostNova called.
Talulah also let out a breath of relief. "Mr. Patriot, you're here."
Patriot was undoubtedly Reunion's greatest combat force at this stage. Only now did Talulah finally relax.
Noticing the towering figure, the Internal Guard said in a deep voice, "Wendigo, I never expected you to be with a group of Infected. Could that rumor be true?"
Patriot stepped in front of the three of them, shielding Han Fei and the others behind him. "Rather than these trivial matters, I am more curious why Ursus guards have appeared here."
"We came here to assess the plan's progress." The Internal Guard stared at Patriot. "But now, I must reevaluate the entire plan. Legend of Ursus, tell me what the Yan man behind you is plotting."
"Him?"
Patriot lowered his head and looked at Han Fei. "As far as I know, this doctor is merely a scavenger who happened to pass through this place."
"An ordinary scavenger cannot kill an Emperor's Blade." The Internal Guard's voice was heavy. "Nor can he ensure that... In any case, Wendigo, the Yan man behind you intends harm against Ursus. Hand him over to me."
Though the Internal Guard had changed his wording, Han Fei still understood what he meant.
In the Internal Guard's eyes, none of Reunion's people, not even Patriot, could kill an Emperor's Blade while ensuring that the Demon Fragment inside it would not make contact with reality and trigger annihilation.
Such techniques were closely guarded secrets even among Ursus's upper ranks. How could people like Reunion possibly possess them?
Only Yan, that mysterious and powerful nation, could accomplish such a thing.
Patriot said nothing. He glanced at FrostNova, who stood firmly in front of Han Fei and declared, "If killing your comrade means intending harm against this country, then I am one of those responsible as well."
Talulah silently stood beside FrostNova. Though she said nothing, her meaning was clear.
Looking at the two young women standing in front of him, Han Fei felt both touched and unable to hold it together.
This is weird. How did I end up looking like some guy living off women? I'm clearly the MVP!
Patriot withdrew his gaze and said loudly, "My daughter trusts him, and I trust my daughter."
"Wendigo, you were once a legend of the Empire. Even we have heard of your deeds."
The Internal Guard's hand drifted casually to the saber at his waist. For the first time, his hoarse voice revealed a human emotion, tinged with disbelief. "Yet now you stand against us. Has the Empire's legend truly defected to Yan?"
"I never intended to defect to Yan."
Noticing the Internal Guard's movement, Patriot tightened his grip on his halberd. "I am here only for the Infected of this land."
"Only for the Infected."
The Internal Guard's hoarse voice mingled with the wind and snow. "Then it seems the rumor is true. Wendigo, you have contracted Oripathy."
It was not hard to tell that the Internal Guard believed Patriot.
If an ordinary soldier had said such words, the Internal Guard would naturally not have believed him so easily. But Patriot was no ordinary man.
As a living legend of the Ursus Empire, it was no exaggeration to say that nearly every member of the newer generation of Internal Guards had heard of Patriot's exploits.
The Internal Guard knew exactly how much the Wendigo before him had sacrificed for the Empire. He had spent most of his life fighting for the Ursus Empire.
For such a man to defect to Yan would be no different from completely denying his entire life.
After several breaths of silence, the Internal Guard spoke again. "Wendigo, you..."
"Stop. What the hell are you babbling about?"
Han Fei rudely cut him off. A vicious glint flashed in the Internal Guard's eyes, and he nearly erupted.
Yet beneath Patriot's gaze, the Internal Guard still restrained himself.
The Empire's legend was no empty title. In a one-on-one fight, the Internal Guard was no match for Patriot.
Did he not understand what three-Internal-Guard-level combat power meant?!
Patriot alone was enough to make the Internal Guard think twice, let alone Han Fei, an unforeseen variable.
Even now, the Internal Guard could not understand why his comrade had died so easily at Han Fei's hands. It had happened so quickly that he had not even had time to react, much less intervene.
Ignoring the Internal Guard's vicious glare, Han Fei said, "If you want to fight, we'll oblige. If not, get out of my sight."
There was still a Yeti lying on the ground. So long as this damned Internal Guard remained, Han Fei did not even dare try to save Semyon.
What if Semyon could actually be saved, only for this lunatic to strike again? That method was truly impossible to guard against.
The Internal Guard did not reply. He reached up and pressed the communicator attached to his mask, murmuring a string of obscure code words.
Unable to understand what he was saying, Han Fei looked around and whispered, "What the hell is this guy babbling about? Can any of you understand him?"
"In Ursus, only a very small number of people know the Emperor's Blades' coded language," Patriot said solemnly. "Regrettably, I am not one of them."
"Is that so? That's a shame," Han Fei said.
The Internal Guard's encrypted communication did not last long.
Before long, he pressed the communicator again and said, "Yan man, we will uncover your conspiracy. Whatever you are plotting, I can tell you with certainty that your plan will not succeed."
Easy to Save, Doctor
Han Fei snorted. "Then go investigate. Once you get your results, don't forget to lodge a protest with the Emperor of Yan."
Han Fei would have loved nothing more than for the Internal Guard to investigate. There was no so-called conspiracy behind this matter to begin with. It had simply been a completely random incident.
How could the Internal Guard uncover a conspiracy by investigating something that did not exist?
What did not exist simply did not exist. No matter how much he racked his brains, he would never find this supposed conspiracy.
"Yan man, I must admit that Yan is an exceedingly powerful nation."
The Internal Guard seemed to have grown accustomed to Han Fei's arrogance. This time, Han Fei's scoff did not anger him. He said calmly, "But do not forget that this is Ursus, not Yan.
"Your actions will bring you bitter consequences."
With that, the Internal Guard glanced at Talulah and continued, "And you, daughter of a Duke, your progress is far slower than we anticipated. But we can wait—for the day you complete your transformation."
"What are you talking about?"
The words came completely out of nowhere, and Talulah did not understand them at all.
