Han Fei was not from Yan, so it had never occurred to him to invoke Yan in the first place.
But since Zaro had brought up Yan himself, Han Fei did not mind feeding him some false intelligence. Smiling, he said:
"Then let them come find us in Yan. My Yan Shadow Guard isn't to be trifled with. Are you sure Siracusans in Yan can still act as recklessly as they do in Columbia?"
Epilogue
This was not Han Fei's first time borrowing Yan's name. Back on the Tundra, when facing the Emperor's Blades, he had used Yan's identity before.
With that experience behind him, Han Fei felt no psychological burden whatsoever about invoking Yan's name again. The words came effortlessly:
"If I remember correctly, the reason you Siracusans can act so freely here is because your Lady Sicilian has quite a few agreements with Columbia. That is why Columbia is willing to do Siracusa a favor."
Han Fei stared at Zaro and said, word by word, "Yan is not Columbia. Do you really think those Siracusan assassins can recreate another Night of Annihilation in Yan?"
"Hmph."
Zaro snorted coldly.
Outwardly, it remained as arrogant and unruly as ever, but Zaro knew Han Fei was telling the truth.
Siracusa and Columbia had always maintained Originium trade agreements, and their bilateral relationship had remained strong because of them.
Lady Sicilian had played a role in pushing this branch of the Texas Family to develop in Columbia.
To put it more dramatically, the Texas Family had been Lady Sicilian's pilot project in Columbia.
It was just that the experiment had not gone very well. After Giuseppe tasted the benefits, he actually wanted to sever ties with Siracusa completely.
Naturally, Lady Sicilian could not tolerate that. Thus came the extermination operation.
But Yan was different. That ancient, mysterious nation was nowhere near as accommodating as Columbia. They would never tolerate assassins from other countries entering in force and wreaking havoc on Yan soil.
Still smiling, Han Fei reached out and patted Zaro on the head. "So, using Siracusa to threaten us is actually pretty pointless."
"Boy, watch what you're doing!"
A vicious gleam flashed through Zaro's eyes. It was a Beast Lord, not some pet dog whose head could be patted at will.
Its temporary concession was only because it knew its scheme had already failed. Since it was also at a slight disadvantage, it simply chose not to fight.
If they truly continued, with its immortal nature, it was confident it could fight Han Fei until the end of time.
"Fine, my bad."
Han Fei withdrew his hand and said seriously, "In any case, Zaro, your plan has fallen through. Stop wasting your time on Cellinia."
"Yan brat, I'll remember you."
Zaro rose to its feet, its crimson wolf eyes fixed on Han Fei. "For the rest of your life, you'd best not set foot in Siracusan territory. Otherwise, every lone wolf will follow the scent of your blood and hunt you to the ends of the earth."
Han Fei blinked. Great. I've been blacklisted by Siracusa.
Still, he did not really care.
You don't want me going in. Did I agree to that?
As the thought crossed his mind, Han Fei watched Zaro back away step by step, its body about to vanish into the darkness, when he suddenly realized something was wrong.
There's no loot to pick up after this fight!
The Emperor's Blades had at least dropped an Evil Fragment. As a mighty Wolf Lord, Zaro should at least drop some treasure, shouldn't it?
For a moment, Han Fei nearly called Zaro back.
But it was only a thought. Actually shouting would have been insane.
Zaro's immortality was indeed troublesome, but if it could be killed, Han Fei would not have minded continuing the fight.
But it could not be killed. No kill meant no loot, and continuing would be a complete waste of time.
Before long, Zaro's body disappeared entirely into the darkness, and those two crimson points vanished with it.
"Phew. That nuisance is finally gone."
Lappland let out a long breath, then raised her blade and pointed it at Texas nearby. Grinning, she said, "Now it's your turn."
"Hold it right there."
Han Fei turned around and looked at Lappland irritably. "You're starting again?"
All Han Fei wanted now was to evacuate, head happily back to the Special Operations Center, and watch his Haf Coins keep rising—not keep fighting people here.
"What do you mean, again?"
Lappland tilted her head, looking somewhat confused. "Did you think I chased you all this way to help you?
"You couldn't be more wrong. From beginning to end, my only target was you, Cellinia."
Texas watched Lappland in silence, her hands tightening unconsciously around her swords.
"Tsk."
Han Fei clicked his tongue. When it comes to love and hate, you've got to hand it to these two dogs.
Of course, Han Fei was not actually going to stand there openly enjoying the show. He raised his riot shield and said to Lappland, "I remember elbowing you once. What, did you forget already?"
Lappland looked at the massive shield in Han Fei's hand, and a trace of wariness flashed through her eyes.
She had indeed suffered at Han Fei's hands before. Until she found a way to counter him, she had no desire to fight him again.
So Lappland called out, "Cellinia, this is between you and me. Are you sure you want him interfering?"
Han Fei snorted, raising his shield high as he prepared himself. "Protecting my department supervisor is only natural."
"There's no need."
Texas's voice suddenly cut in. The young woman's wolf ears trembled faintly in the night wind, and her voice was colder than the moonlight. "This is the grudge between her and me. Let me settle it with my own hands."
Just as Lappland had expected, the excited smile on her face grew wider. "You really don't disappoint me."
As childhood friends, Lappland understood Cellinia far too well. She knew Cellinia would never allow Han Fei to interfere.
Because, just as she had said, this was the grudge between her and Cellinia.
"You two really are something."
Han Fei shook his head. Since Texas had spoken, he could not very well interfere. He simply turned toward the Siracusan assassins and said, "Then let me see what these elites you brought can do."
Lappland laughed loudly, then her smile faded as she ordered, "Kill him."
The Saluzzo Family assassins received the command and immediately raised their hand crossbows.
But Han Fei moved faster.
The roar of the Bizon submachine gun tore through the night. Amid the shriek of RIP Rounds ripping through the air, blood burst from the suits of the three assassins in the front row. The bullets tumbled and exploded inside their chests, spraying flesh and blood from their backs.
Clang! Clang! Clang!
The poison-coated bolts were blocked by the riot shield. Just as Han Fei was about to return fire, he saw the assassins all duck behind the cars like turtles hiding in their shells.
"What are you hiding for? You think hiding will save you from death?"
Han Fei pulled out one of Old Black's grenades with his right hand and said impatiently, "Hurry up and die already. Don't waste my time."
The explosion and screams rang out together. The so-called elites of the Saluzzo Family were as fragile as paper before the enhanced fragmentation grenades.
Without high-grade body armor, not even GTI Superhumans could withstand one of those grenades, much less these suited-up Siracusans.
After two grenades, the Siracusans learned what it meant to suffer without armor.
Even those lucky enough to survive lost all combat capability on the spot.
Han Fei stepped forward and finished them off one by one before turning back toward the Twin Wolves.
Moonlight flowed across their blades in a mercury-cold gleam. The two figures crossed and separated amid the silver radiance.
Lappland's silver hair traced meteor-like arcs as she spun and slashed, while Texas's blades carved two precise blue streaks. Every collision burst into dazzling sparks, like ephemera suddenly blooming across an ice field.
Lappland's blade light carried a frenzied poetry, pouring down like a blizzard. Every strike was all-out, every blow lethal. She showed no mercy for the sake of their former bond.
Texas, meanwhile, maintained restraint precise to the millimeter. Her twin swords wove an impenetrable net before her, shredding every one of those deadly romantic attacks.
Two former friends now fought beneath the moonlight. Neither held back. Giving everything they had was the greatest respect they could offer each other.
"Beautiful."
Han Fei leaned against the sedan, admiring the Twin Wolves as they fought.
These young ladies from different families possessed a unique elegance even in battle.
It was just that this elegance was utterly deadly.
It was not hard to see that the two were evenly matched. They likely would not be able to determine a victor anytime soon.
In theory, Han Fei could have done something else now, such as looting the bodies on the ground.
But Han Fei had no intention of doing so. He kept his eyes on the battlefield. The moment Texas was defeated, he would act decisively and deny Lappland any chance to hurt her.
Clang! Clang! Clang!
The crisp clash of metal erupted into a string of sparks in the darkness. Texas's blade suddenly changed course, knocking Lappland's blade tip aside with almost millimeter-perfect precision.
Lappland's silver pupils suddenly contracted. She instinctively leaned back, only to see Texas's second sword chasing after her like pouring moonlight.
The icy blade rested against her throat, yet Lappland suddenly bared her sharp canine teeth in a smile.
"Cellinia, you've improved again."
Texas silently sheathed her swords. As she turned and walked toward Han Fei, the moonlight cast a long silhouette behind her.
Watching Texas's back, Lappland called out, "Hey, are you really going to be his department supervisor or whatever?"
Texas paused but did not look back. "Where else would I go?"
"True."
Lappland sheathed her twin blades. She looked at Texas's back one last time, then turned away and waved her hand.
"Goodbye."
"Goodbye."
Texas's voice was as soft as falling snow.
Before long, Texas returned to Han Fei and said, "Let's go."
Han Fei hopped down from the hood of the car. "Not yet. Let me search these first."
To be safe, he had not even searched the corpses on the ground earlier.
This fight had not been profitable for Han Fei at all. Zaro had given him nothing, and Lappland's blades had been returned.
In and out, he had lost more than five hundred thousand in profits. He needed to loot some grunts to make up for it. Even some fashionable junk would do—at least it could refill those empty inventory slots.
Texas watched his back as he rummaged through the pile of corpses. After hesitating for a moment, she suddenly crouched down beside him.
Sensing movement next to him, Han Fei turned his head. Seeing Texas silently searching the bodies, he suddenly felt incredibly pleased, and the corners of his mouth rose without him noticing.
"By the way, you can give me your answer now, right?"
"Mm. Then... what should I call you? Boss? Or something else?"
Return
The black sedan sped beneath the moonlight. Han Fei sat in the passenger seat with one arm resting on the window, enjoying the cool night wind as he hummed a little tune.
"The night falls far too stubbornly~"
Texas had already grown used to Han Fei's habit of breaking into song now and then. Holding the steering wheel steadily, she asked, "I didn't take a wrong turn, did I? This way?"
"That's right. Just keep going straight," Han Fei said.
At that moment, the evacuation point icon in his vision was drawing closer and closer. It was now less than a kilometer away.
Texas followed his instruction. Before long, she heard Han Fei suddenly shout:
"Stop."
Texas slammed on the brakes and brought the car to a halt. "Are we here?"
"We're here."
Han Fei got out of the car. The evacuation point was right ahead of him, less than ten meters away.
Texas looked around. Aside from a grayish-brown rock jutting abruptly from the wilderness before them, this place was no different from any of the wild fields they had passed along the way.
Could there be something special about that rock?
