Aside from Fire Release, Hayato also had Earth and Wind affinities. With the successful precedent of Exploding Insects, he naturally tried using Earth and Wind chakra to cultivate Kikaichū. There had been no progress whatsoever, though. Hayato had already shelved the experiments and would not spend any more effort on them until he came up with new ideas.

The success of the Exploding Insects showed that, aside from Hayato's stubbornness, he had truly stumbled into dumb luck. Otherwise, over the Aburame Clan's centuries of history, he certainly would not have been the only one to attempt such experiments.

Yet he was the only one who had produced results.

In fact, Hayato's method of cultivating insects by feeding them chakra of different natures was considered unorthodox within the Aburame Clan—or rather, a path that had already reached its end.

Over the centuries, the Aburame Clan had cultivated dozens of insects with different functions through Yin and Yang chakra. Yet in recent decades, this cultivation method had not produced any new insects.

The mainstream approach was the [External Stimulation Method], which altered external conditions to stimulate the insects and make them develop corresponding adaptations.

For example, the heat-resistant Kikaichū Hayato had used against Uchiha Shinsuke today. The method was to select Kikaichū with relatively sturdy shells and breed them in high-temperature conditions, then gradually raise the environmental temperature. After more than ten generations of reproduction, they could cultivate the desired heat-resistant insects. It was stable and efficient, far easier than feeding them chakra.

This method was not without its flaws: once the external stimulus disappeared, the Kikaichū would degenerate and revert to their ancestral state within a few generations. Exploding Insects, on the other hand, could be passed down generation after generation and develop into an entirely new species.
