Becoming a mage required a special kind of spiritual power. Strength, stability, sensitivity... all were important indicators.
Hayato believed Jessica had the aptitude.
As for why Hayato wanted Jessica to learn magic, it was simply to completely resolve the lingering effects on her mind.
If she had the talent, then only two questions remained:
Was Jessica willing to learn?
Was Kamar-Taj willing to teach her?
As for the first, although Hayato had failed to sleep his way into persuading Jessica, he was confident he could convince her to learn magic. Perhaps he would not even need to say much. Magic—who had not dreamed of magic before?
As for the latter, Hayato had not even brought it up, yet the wise Ancient One had already seen through him. Otherwise, having Master Hamill serve as their guide would have been far too grand a gesture.
Ancient One walked ahead, leading Hayato slowly through Kamar-Taj and occasionally introducing its distinctive buildings.
The Kathmandu Valley, where Kamar-Taj was located, had a population of around five million. At its core was an ancient town, a small city with four hundred thousand residents. Kamar-Taj was hidden amid the bustling streets, surrounded by all kinds of temples: Guhyeshwari Temple, Jagannath Temple, the Queen Mother's Temple, Shiva Temple, Taleju Temple, Trailokya Mohan Temple, Shiva-Parvati Temple, Saraswati Temple, Krishna Temple, Swayambhunath Stupa, and more.
Some were adorned with carved beams and painted rafters, resplendent in gold and jade, solemn and sacred. Others were elegant in form, steeped in ancient charm, with Buddhist chants lingering in the air.
There were as many temples as homes, and as many Buddha statues as residents.
It was hard to imagine such a place was the capital of a nation.
Hayato was amazed beyond words.
Kamar-Taj was about the size of a village. Like
