These were the Twelve Guardian Ninja, the daimyo's long-term personal guards. How could they so casually send someone back?
Konoha actually had intelligence personnel stationed at the daimyo's residence as well, but unless it involved the daimyo's safety, such matters generally would not reach the Hokage's ears.
Konoha only cared whether the political situation was stable and whether next year's funding arrived on time. As for the daimyo's princess governing in his place, since it did not affect the funding, no one paid it any mind.
"You didn't do something threatening to the daimyo, did you?"
The Third Hokage frowned at Hyuga Wuye. "If the daimyo cuts Konoha's funding for next year because of you, you cannot bear that responsibility."
Wuye casually dug at his ear. "Rest assured, Lord Hokage, nothing like that happened. The daimyo was moved by my devout attitude toward completing missions, and knowing that we're in wartime, specifically sent me back to contribute my strength to the village."
The Third Hokage froze for a moment before looking at him meaningfully. "The village has sufficient manpower. We will not send you to the battlefield."
