The evening breeze was slightly cool. Kotone drew her legs in a little and wrapped her arms around her knees.
Wuye glanced over and, without thinking, pulled part of the cloud blanket aside and covered her legs with it.
"Ah..."
Kotone froze slightly, then her cheeks flushed red.
Wuye felt awkward at his own action too.
How had the two of them suddenly ended up under the same blanket...
"I'm a very capable ninja, you know. I won't get cold," he said, pushing the entire blanket toward her. "But you're an ordinary person. You can't catch a chill."
The cloud blanket completely covered Kotone, and she let out a soft cry despite herself. "The blanket is too big. If I use it alone, it'll drag on the ground..."
Wuye scratched his head and pulled most of the blanket back.
And so, they ended up sharing it again.
"Forget it. Let's talk tomorrow. You should go back and rest first," Wuye said, shaking his head.
He had no desire for anything ambiguous to happen between them.
Kotone glanced at him, yet remained still. Softly, she said, "It's all right. You don't need to worry about anything. I'm only milady's maid, and you're milady's future husband. We won't... um..."
Wuye could understand why she was hesitating. That strange sense of familiarity made people lower their guard.
"How did you become her maid?"
Wuye simply skipped over the matter of the blanket and started chatting with her instead.
Kotone pursed her lips in a smile. "Because milady saved my life, I was willing to follow her forever."
"Then do you know who she is? She came from beyond the heavens." Wuye pointed at the night sky.
"I know, but what does that matter?"
Kotone held the edge of the blanket over her knees
