Not long after Chentian left, a team of three genin appeared there.
"It looks like there was a battle. Sense where he went."
After glancing at the chaotic scene, the three of them came to the same conclusion.
A moment later, an ordinary-looking chubby boy said, "Chentian has already left. Those other three idiots are dead!"
"Pursue!"
The muscular man in the lead gave a low shout and took off after him first.
The chubby boy exchanged a look with the other genin, and they followed as well.
Although those three idiots had died at Chentian's hands, they were not worried in the slightest.
The traces around them told the story clearly enough. The three had died to explosive tags without even fighting back. They had obviously been ambushed.
As long as they stayed alert and avoided being ambushed as well, taking down Chentian would not be a problem.
Come to think of it, the three of them were quite curious about the organization. The people in it clearly had no feelings, and some even held grudges against one another.
Yet whenever someone was killed, a kill-on-sight pursuit order was issued. It was practically a joke.
Still, for the sake of merit, they could not be bothered to care about such things. Completing the mission was all that mattered.
After they left, more people arrived one after another. However, upon seeing the ruins, all of them departed.
Whenever teams encountered each other along the way, fierce battles broke out. Some fled, while others were eliminated. The brutality of the Chunin Exams had begun to reveal itself.
After leaving the area, Chentian did not linger. He rushed toward the central tower at his fastest speed.
He had no interest in continuing to play ninja games with these genin. Ending this quickly so he could destroy the Exchange could be considered proper business.
Moving like the wind and lightning, Chentian reached the central tower in only two hours.
After looking around and deciding he was fairly satisfied, he reburied the explosive tags he had dug up earlier and added quite a few more.
Before long, explosive tags of varying numbers had been scattered throughout the three-hundred-meter area surrounding the central tower's entrance.
These explosive tags completely sealed off the entrance. Without Chentian's permission, no one could get in.
After all the fighting lately, Chentian had grown increasingly fond of explosive tags.
He did not even need to fight himself to blow his enemies to death. It was simply too satisfying.
After finishing all that, he casually found a spot and began sleeping soundly, though he remained vigilant in secret.
Among the remaining ninjas, no one knew whether there were people from the Exchange, so it was best to stay cautious.
Before long, three ninjas came racing down the path Chentian had taken.
Chentian cracked open his eyes and glanced at the three of them, immediately understanding the situation.
They had come from his direction and were moving so quickly. They were obviously here for him.
In this examination area, the only people who would give up their scrolls just to come after him were probably ninjas from the Exchange.
After casually glancing at the forehead protectors they wore, Chentian was shocked to discover that he did not recognize which ninja village they belonged to. That was truly strange.
"Be careful. There must be explosive tags around here!"
Seeing Chentian sleeping so casually in the distance, the muscular leader immediately sensed that something was wrong.
The three stopped five hundred meters away and began sensing their surroundings, but their expressions turned ugly the next moment.
"Three hundred meters in every direction? How many explosive tags would that take?"
If they could reach the bastard, the three of them would definitely show this wasteful fool why flowers were so red!
But then they faced another problem. Three hundred meters was far beyond the reach of their ninjutsu.
At the very least, they would need a Kage-level expert to give it a try.
They wanted to go around, but among the densely packed explosive tags, there was not even a place to set foot.
"What do we do now? We can't reach him."
"I don't know either. We can't exactly trick that kid. He isn't an idiot."
As they spoke, the chubby boy and the other man both turned to look at the muscular man, waiting for him to decide.
The muscular man plopped down on the ground. "We wait. There's no other way. We don't have enough chakra to force our way in. You don't want to reach him with no chakra left, do you?"
Bombarding the explosive tags with all kinds of ninjutsu could certainly clear them out, but the three of them did not have enough chakra for that!
After each of them used four or five ninjutsu, how were they supposed to fight Chentian?
Wouldn't that just be delivering themselves to him on a silver platter?
But while they wanted to wait, Chentian had no intention of letting them go.
The moment he saw these three, Chentian had wanted to kill them. Everyone from the Exchange had to die!
After leaving behind a max-level clone, he burrowed underground and slowly moved toward the forest behind the three of them.
A max-level Clone Technique was already difficult to see through. Coupled with the three-hundred-meter distance, the three did not notice that Chentian had vanished even though they had kept their eyes fixed on him.
It took Chentian a full five minutes to reach the forest behind them.
"Water Release—Great Exploding Water Colliding Wave!"
"Lightning Release—Earth Walk!"
After resting briefly, Chentian's hands formed seals at a blinding speed, leaving afterimages as he immediately unleashed a combination ninjutsu.
By the time the three noticed, the water had already reached them, and lightning followed in the next instant.
The lightning could not deal them much damage, but it could immobilize them for a moment.
As the three convulsed, Chentian's next attacks followed at once.
"Water Release—Water Dragon Bullet!"
"Fire Release—Fire Dragon Bullet!"
In an instant, twin dragons of water and fire emerged one after another, crashing into the three without the slightest mercy.
"Rumble!"
The two dragons suddenly slammed into the ground, blasting out a pit more than ten meters wide. The entire pit was covered in scorched marks.
Perhaps because he had been a descendant of the dragon in his previous life, Chentian was particularly fond of dragon-shaped ninjutsu.
Ever since learning these two techniques, he used them in every battle.
Once the aftermath subsided, only the muscular man remained from the original three-man team. The other two had died on the spot.
"Pant... pant...!"
The muscular man gasped for breath. At the moment the two dragons had struck, he had used Water Wall, barely managing to survive.
Even so, he had suffered severe injuries.
"Stop! I withdraw from the exam!"
Seeing Chentian continue forming seals, the muscular man immediately panicked.
A cruel smile appeared at the corner of Chentian's mouth. His hands did not slow down at all as he said leisurely, "You came to kill me. Now that you failed, you still want to go back alive?"
At those words, the muscular man's face turned pale. Since Chentian already knew, there was no chance he would let him go.
Faced with the threat of death, the man erupted as well.
His hand seals were nearly as fast as Chentian's, leaving a flurry of afterimages.
If his legs had not been injured and unable to move, he would have fled long ago. Who would be stupid enough to trade attacks head-on?
"Fire Release—Majestic Flame Destroyer!" The burly man was about to attack, but unfortunately, it was already too late.
Not only had Chentian started forming seals before him, he was also faster. How could he compare?
"Earth Release—Earth Dragon Bullet!"
Just like before, except this time the dragon was yellow. It charged forward like a wild horse that had broken free of its reins.
"Rumble!"
After a burst of earth-shaking tremors, the world returned to silence once more. The burly man's mangled body lay on the ground, almost beyond recognition.
Chentian shook his head in distaste. "Sure enough, Water Dragon Bullet and Fire Dragon Bullet are better. They don't leave corpses behind. This Earth Dragon Bullet is way too miserable!"
Water Dragon Bullet could wash away the body, while Fire Dragon Bullet could burn it completely. After Earth Dragon Bullet struck, all that remained was mangled flesh. Disgusting!
However, Chentian did not clean up the battlefield. He hurried over to collect the cards instead.
[Purple card: Fire Release—Majestic Flame Destroyer. Fuse?] [Purple card: Speed +100. Fuse?] [Purple card: Multiple Shadow Clone Technique. Fuse?] [Blue card: Chakra +100. Fuse?]
Another string of purple and blue cards appeared, and Chentian fused them all without hesitation.
Chentian discovered that the cards dropped after killing jonin were all of high quality, causing him to lose interest in genin and chunin.
After this fusion, his physical attributes had reached the level of an elite chunin, though his overall evaluation had not changed.
That left him somewhat frustrated.
