Early Rivalry with Ling

Kiba first approaches Ling during Iruka's extra training, mocking his water-droplet control exercise and demanding that he prove himself on the obstacle course. Though Iruka prevents an immediate confrontation, Kiba's challenge prompts Ling to reconsider how to apply his explosive chakra in real combat 11.

He organizes an obstacle-course race the following morning, choosing terrain where agility, balance, and continuous movement should favor him. Kiba leads for most of the course, but Ling overtakes him near the finish with two brief acceleration bursts and wins through superior target hits 12.

Kiba then challenges Ling to an official taijutsu spar. His relentless offense is ultimately redirected by Ling's lateral shift and shoulder throw. Though frustrated, Kiba accepts that Ling defeated him through combat skill rather than raw power, and Ling's post-fight gesture of giving him water further shifts their rivalry toward mutual respect 17.

Academy Assessments

Kiba remains a prominent competitor during the Academy's graded assessments. He performs strongly in the shuriken course through power-based throws, but reacts with jealousy to Ling's compressed-chakra kunai technique 15.
