Zhao Cheng nodded. "Indeed. I, too, was once ordered to brave the dangers of another fragment world. Its laws were utterly different from those of this world, and I endured a full century there. Yet after a thousand trials and ten thousand perils, I found no laws that could complete Great Qian's Dao. In the end, I could only return empty-handed."
He paused, his voice growing hoarse. "Dozens of extraordinary talents went with me. In the end, fewer than one in ten returned alive."
A shadow of grief crossed Zhao Cheng's face and would not lift.
Li Shun's heart tightened at his words.
He had explored the Martial World himself. He knew just how dangerous it was to venture into a wholly unknown world.
"Yet even if the road ahead is strewn with bones, Great Qian must uphold this iron law of mending heaven, generation after generation, to guard against the Outer Gods watching from the shadows!"
Zhao Cheng's voice suddenly turned firm as bedrock, every word striking the ground. "This is not merely for our own survival, but to protect Great Qian's descendants. Otherwise, should the Celestial Array fail one day, billions of living beings would be laid bare before the Outer Gods surrounding us. Then... when the nest is overturned, how could any egg remain whole? We would likely have no strength to resist at all."
"Outer Gods..." Li Shun weighed those words carefully.
Judging by every measure the Great Qian Court had taken today, all who knew of this forbidden existence, whether in court or beyond it, shied away from speaking of it and feared it to the utmost.
Such bone-deep fear and vigilance could scarcely have taken hold of the Great Qian Court unless history had seen a catastrophe that brought real, earth-shattering devastation.
