Loran's own combat power was enough to easily slaughter every apprentice in this room.
When encountering a truly formidable threat, it was still up to Loran to take action herself.
But if she had no one under her command, having to run out for every minor issue would certainly be inappropriate.
Loran continued, instructing, "Starting tomorrow, you are to select apprentices from among yourselves. Work in pairs, just like my assistant apprentices, and patrol the city and the surrounding densely populated areas together."
"Each pair will patrol for five days, and after five days, you will rotate to the next group."
"Yes, my lady!"
"Yes, teacher!"
At this, both the local apprentices and the five from Charles's group stood up to respond.
One local apprentice asked with a humble bow, "My lady, we do not understand this Shadow Nightmare Realm convergence event. How should we handle situations we encounter while on patrol?"
Loran's gaze swept over the local apprentices, and she said with forced patience, "It is normal for you not to understand."
"Each convergence between the Shadow Nightmare Realm and our Wizard World may be separated by decades, or even centuries."
"The last Shadow Nightmare Realm convergence was over three hundred years ago."
"A Shadow Nightmare Realm convergence brings many changes to the Wizard World. The most common is that the nights in the Wizard World will lengthen, and during the day, shadows will stretch under the light."
"Staying in the shadows for too long may lead to the appearance of Nightmarespawn Parasites. These are Shadow Nightmare creatures that, after parasitizing a human body, will alter it, granting them great strength while stripping them of their intelligence."
"The emergence of a Nightmarespawn Parasite triggers a chain reaction. If left unchecked, everyone nearby will be infected and parasitized, and eventually, an entire city could become a nest for Shadow Nightmare creatures."
"The longer a Nightmarespawn Parasite lives, the more it is strengthened by the Shadow Nightmare Realm. When the parasite matures, it will burst out of the host to become a powerful Shadow Nightmare creature. Some of these creatures can even rival wizards!"
"Besides Nightmarespawn Parasites, Shadow Nightmare Beasts may also appear in the shadows; these are creatures native to the Shadow Nightmare Realm."
"They can traverse through shadows, and ordinary attacks can hardly cause them any harm. Only wizardry can strike them."
"Beyond Shadow Nightmare Beasts, powerful Shadow Nightmare warriors might also appear. Every Shadow Nightmare warrior possesses at least the combat power of a wizard. If you encounter a Shadow Nightmare warrior, call for support immediately. I will arrive at the battlefield as quickly as possible to eliminate them."
After saying all this, Loran took out several documents and distributed them to everyone using her mental power, saying, "This is basic information regarding the Shadow Nightmare Realm. Study it carefully after you return."
"The nights have already begun to lengthen recently. I suspect it won't be long before the Shadow Nightmare Realm truly arrives and the convergence begins."
"For your own sake and for the people here, be vigilant. Any Nightmarespawn Parasite must be executed; otherwise, their existence could summon even more powerful Shadow Nightmare creatures!"
"Yes, my lady!" the many apprentices responded.
Charles looked at the information on the Shadow Nightmare Realm in his hands, feeling an immense headache.
No wonder he had felt the nights growing longer lately; he had assumed it was due to the season and had never considered this possibility.
He had originally wanted to go down to the banquet hall below to have some fun, but now, feeling the heavy pressure, Charles had no desire for entertainment left.
Loran left the room, and Charles and the others followed suit.
Charles and Jody returned to their rooms to rest, while Quake and the other two went down to the banquet hall to enjoy themselves.
Back in his room, Charles flipped through the documents on the Shadow Nightmare Realm, studying them earnestly.
What Loran had dictated was not exhaustive; more details had to be gleaned from the documents.
The Shadow Nightmare Realm and the Wizard World were almost two sides of the same coin.
The documents mentioned that powerful wizards had ventured deep into the Shadow Nightmare Realm to explore.
They discovered that the Shadow Nightmare Realm was, in fact, much larger than the Wizard World.
The Shadow Nightmare Realm moved irregularly through the surrounding void, but every few decades or centuries, it would converge with the Wizard World.
This process seemed to be natural, with no evidence of Shadow Nightmare creatures actively interfering.
Compared to the Wizard World, the Shadow Nightmare Realm was far more bizarre, filled with fantastical and eerie colors.
Even the invasions of Shadow Nightmare creatures that the Wizard World faced were triggered unconsciously.
Shadow Nightmare creatures did not actively invade the Wizard World; all such incursions were forced, and they often arrived in the Wizard World without knowing how.
However, because the rules of the two worlds differed, the Shadow Nightmare creatures that entered the Wizard World began to kill life uncontrollably in order to survive.
When Shadow Nightmare creatures killed, their power grew; by the same token, wizards gained benefits from killing Shadow Nightmare creatures.
Charles sighed softly. In this light, both the Shadow Nightmare creatures and the life in the Wizard World were pitiful wretches, forced into a life-or-death hostile state.
The records noted that besides Shadow Nightmare creatures entering the Wizard World, life from the Wizard World also had a chance of entering the Shadow Nightmare Realm.
The two were reciprocal.
If someone were unfortunate enough to enter the Shadow Nightmare Realm, they were in for a rough time; they had to hide themselves as best they could, for if they were discovered by Shadow Nightmare creatures, they would meet a grim fate.
The Shadow Nightmare Realm was like another Wizard World, but far more strange.
Living people who entered the Shadow Nightmare Realm could still return, provided they found a Nightmare Window where the two worlds converged within a few days.
Even so, the vast majority of those forced into the Shadow Nightmare Realm died within it; it was simply too dangerous.
Just as Shadow Nightmare creatures could be found and killed by human wizards, humans in the Shadow Nightmare Realm had no hope of survival if they encountered a powerful Shadow Nightmare creature.
The Shadow Nightmare Realm was vast, and its internal landscape was incredibly turbulent and grotesque, as marvelous as the dreams of an insomniac.
Reading the accounts of powerful wizards' experiences in the Shadow Nightmare Realm left Charles feeling fascinated.
For a wizard, knowledge was power. Learning more and acquiring more knowledge was highly beneficial to their cultivation.
In fact, when promoting to a wizard, the more knowledge one mastered, the higher the probability of success.
This was something he had learned from Loran's notes on being a First-Circle wizard: only by understanding more knowledge could one hope to become a powerful wizard.
Clearly, if he could learn enough about the Shadow Nightmare Realm, Charles would have a better chance when he eventually sought to become a First-Circle wizard in the future.
He finished reading the documents and finally let out a sigh of relief.
In most cases, if one responded appropriately, the convergence of the Shadow Nightmare Realm would not be overly dangerous.
Charles closed the document book and exhaled, wondering if he should go down to the banquet hall after all.
But as he looked up, the surrounding environment had already changed drastically; he felt as if he were sitting inside a layer of hazy gauze.
Charles's expression shifted, and his heart filled with alarm: Where the hell is this!?
Where did this bring me to!?
Is this even the Wizard World anymore!?
