Late at night, Charles lay on his bed, exhausted and staring blankly at the ceiling.
He muttered, "Who the hell invented such an inhumane training method as the Knight Breathing Technique?"
"Who the hell could cultivate such a difficult, exhausting breathing technique all the way to Great Knight?"
Lying in bed, Charles looked like a spent pile of medicinal dregs.
His entire body ached, and it took him a long while before he finally fell asleep.
Early morning.
The medicinal oil was quite effective. Although Charles still felt somewhat tired, he no longer felt any pain.
If he could keep this up for the long term, his physical strength would definitely grow stronger as well.
In the cafeteria, having lost his former good brother Qiaosuo, Charles seemed all alone.
Although he still harassed Doris as usual lately, he was no longer acting like the pathetic simp he had once been.
Continuing to bother Doris was merely to maintain his persona.
Once enough time had passed, Charles would not even spare her a glance.
Breakfast was onion-baked beans and bread as usual. For Charles, it was enough to fill his stomach, but it definitely could not be called tasty.
There were quite a few people in the cafeteria. Many people from the middle and lower decks came here to eat one after another.
Not a single person from the upper deck could be seen. Apparently, they had better feasts.
For Charles, the barely edible food was a rare chance for newcomers from the lower deck to fill their stomachs.
When wizards recruited apprentices, they did not discriminate. As long as someone had talent, they brought them along first. As for the specific assessment of their aptitude, that would be done after arriving on the Wizard Continent.
The lower deck charged no money, but the living conditions were much worse, with several people crammed into one room.
They all came from poor backgrounds and had no Magic Stones in their hands.
With Charles's starting circumstances, he was already considered rich. Unfortunately, the previous Charles had spent money lavishly and left behind little inheritance.
Charles currently had twenty-two Magic Stones, fifteen of which did not need to be repaid.
Charles made a daily training plan. In the morning, when he was in his best condition, he would practice the Basic Meditation Technique. Then, in the afternoon, he would train the Knight Breathing Technique.
He would strive to reach Third-Rank Wizard Apprentice in the shortest possible time.
Magic Stones were basically useless to him right now, since he could not absorb them yet. He had heard that potions were sold on the ship, and that they were beneficial for meditation training.
But after looking at the conditions aboard the ship and the purchasing power of Magic Stones, Charles felt that something was off.
Even a room this awful cost one Magic Stone per month. Potions would definitely be even more expensive.
As he pondered this, someone suddenly sat down in front of him.
Charles looked up and saw Molly, one of the girls who usually followed Doris around.
Molly also came from an aristocratic family and lived on the middle deck, not far from Charles.
She had long wine-red hair. She was a little younger than Charles, but her figure was rather voluptuous.
Resting her fair, delicate hand beneath her chin, Molly looked at Charles and asked curiously, "Why haven't you been going to see Doris lately?"
Charles slowly tore off pieces of bread as he ate, quietly watching Molly.
Compared to Doris, Molly was no less beautiful and had a great figure too. Charles had no idea why the former Charles had not liked her and had instead liked Doris.
Could it be that the old Charles simply liked that scheming sweet-girl vibe?
After being watched by Charles for a little too long, and with Charles now possessing the Succubus Bloodline, Molly's cheeks flushed after just a few more glances from him.
She gave a soft spit. "I'm asking you a question."
Recalling the Molly in his memories, Doris was not a good person, and Molly was not much better.
Doris was a scheming sweet girl, while Molly was her little accomplice, usually someone who watched the fun and fanned the flames for entertainment.
Charles did not want to waste too much time with Molly. He sighed and said, "My good brother Qiaosuo died. I'm in such agony now that whenever I see Doris, I think of Qiaosuo."
"I don't want to endure that pain. Do you understand me?"
Seeing Charles's suddenly explosive acting, Molly's hidden maternal instincts instantly surged forth. The more she looked at Charles, the more handsome she found him.
Especially his eyes—they were like a tranquil lake, one that could draw people in if they were not careful.
Molly's heart was nearly melting. She had never thought Charles was this handsome before.
With flushed cheeks, Molly said, "I can help you."
Hearing that, Charles had originally planned to leave, but he paused again. "Really? Right now, only breaking through to Third-Rank Wizard Apprentice can ease the torment and pain in my heart."
"Can you buy me a bottle of potion, or lend me some Magic Stones?"
Molly's expression stiffened at once. She bit her lip helplessly. "I can't afford one either. I only have a few Magic Stones left."
Upon hearing that, Charles no longer wanted to argue with this woman. He finished his bread and immediately got up to leave.
"Then forget it. Let me suffer alone."
"It hurts so much!"
It seemed Charles's Succubus Bloodline had some effect on women, but not a particularly strong one. It still required long-term coaxing and interaction.
As for Molly, there was not even a drop of oil to squeeze out of her. He could not live off her either, so Charles discarded her without hesitation.
Only after Charles left did Molly come back to her senses. She suddenly shuddered, unable to help feeling shocked by her thoughts just now.
Covering her face, she instantly felt that she had been far too carried away. She had clearly come to mock and provoke Charles, to make him return to being Doris's simp.
Yet she had nearly become Charles's simp instead.
Charles was simply... too dangerous!
A few more days passed, and the harbor suddenly became lively.
Guards stood everywhere. On the deck, Charles listened to the discussions around him before finally understanding what was happening.
The final batch of new wizard apprentices was about to board the ship.
"Wow!"
"Lord Wizard!"
Cries of surprise suddenly rang out around him. Charles hurriedly looked over and saw several small flying figures in the sky, eventually landing on the upper deck of the sea ship.
That was a place Charles and the others could not access.
Flying had always been humanity's dream. To fly without relying on an airplane made Charles instantly envious.
"That looks so awesome. When will I be able to fly?"
Charles muttered softly.
Meanwhile, a stream of people had already appeared in the harbor below. They were all young people like Charles and the others. A small group wore relatively luxurious clothing, while far more were dressed in coarse linen.
The difference in their original statuses clearly divided the two groups.
But Charles knew that in a society with supernatural powers, one's status in a mundane kingdom would probably be utterly useless on the Wizard Continent. In fact, their former luxurious lives might instead leave them constrained at every turn.
Groups of people climbed up the ship's stairway, while only a handful of people ascended the more luxurious staircase on the other side.
Those dressed in black robes were all wizard apprentices. Charles had even encountered one of them before.
Ding! New merchant discovered!
