In any age, on any plane, making newcomers offer up a token of allegiance was a quick way to increase their credibility.

The nobles and knights willing to submit to Charles joined forces and killed that severely wounded baron.

This baron, who had bravely charged at the Blood Ring Knights, had not died on the battlefield. Instead, he died at the hands of his former companions.

Charles watched the scene with satisfaction, then approached one of the barons who had refused to surrender.

He asked, "Are you truly unwilling to surrender to me?"

The baron was forced to kneel on the ground. Though he had already seen what had become of his severely wounded companion, he still gritted his teeth and said, "I am loyal to His Majesty. I will never surrender to you!"

"Kill me!"

He glared hatefully at the nobles and knights who had submitted to Charles and said through clenched teeth, "You traitors! Even in death, I will not let you off!"

Charles looked at the baron with appreciation. "Not bad. I have always respected warriors."

"So, you are free. I will release you now, but you had better run fast. Do not let me catch you again."

"Otherwise... there will be only one road left—death."

The moment those words were spoken, many of the prisoners present were stunned.

The viscount who had submitted immediately changed color and cried out, "My lord, you cannot let him go!"

Charles turned back and fixed the viscount with an icy stare.

The viscount saw the burly, heavily armored Blood Ring Knights beside him and hurriedly lowered his head, gritting his teeth as he said, "My lord, if he leaves, he will certainly leak information about our army. That would be detrimental to your coming battle!"

Charles smiled upon hearing this.
