A Leland cavalryman charged through the battlefield they had just crossed, then turned to look at the comrades who had been at his side moments ago.
Now, there was nothing left but a blank expanse.
A gap several dozen meters wide had opened right in the center of the cavalry formation. Not a single Leland cavalryman remained in the middle.
The cavalryman wiped at his wet face in disbelief and found his hand covered in blood.
He himself was not injured. That blood could only have come from other Leland cavalrymen—or the enemy.
At that moment, the Leland cavalryman felt nothing but terror.
But before his terror could spread, he heard the thunder of warhorses galloping like the toll of death.
He turned toward the sound.
The cavalry they had been pursuing actually dared to charge back at them.
The difference was that they had just made a wide circle around the outskirts and were now charging in again from the side.
"They're back!"
A shrill cry tore from the Leland cavalryman's throat.
But it was already too late.
Cavalry charged with tremendous speed. Almost the instant his words fell, this hundred-man decoy cavalry force slammed into their flank once more.
Many Leland cavalrymen had not yet recovered from the panic caused by the Blood Ring Knights' previous charge.
And now they were hit by another cavalry assault.
The Leland cavalryman only had time to raise his shield before the enemy's battle cries rang in his ears.
The accent was so familiar. They were clearly islanders.
Yet now, they stood on opposite sides.
Rumble!!
After this wave of cavalry swept past, the Leland cavalry line grew thinner still.
The cavalryman from before had vanished without a trace. Only his riderless warhorse fled outward, having survived the catastrophe.
