Zeus's eyes flickered with conflict. His love for the goddess kept restraining the malice in his heart, leaving him unable to lay a hand on Metis.
Besides, he had no idea what he was supposed to do.
The child had already been conceived. It could not be undone or killed. Only by trapping it within one of its parents' bodies could it possibly be prevented from ever being born.
But the previous two generations of divine kings had already tested that. Whether they stuffed the child back into the mother's body or placed it inside the father's body, it was useless. It even hastened their own downfall.
For a moment, Zeus could think of no solution. He did not know how to restrain this child.
A complicated emotion flashed through Metis's eyes, but her face quickly filled with boundless affection as she said, seemingly casually, "How wonderful. If only I could stay with you forever."
"Zeus, my beloved, how I wish never to be separated from you. I would even like to become a part of you."
The moment she said this, Zeus's anxious and confused thoughts instantly cleared. He came up with an exquisite idea.
Since the child could neither be returned to its mother's body nor placed within its father after being born, then he would simply eat the child's mother and make it impossible for the child ever to be born.
Only...
Looking at the gentle, beautiful goddess in his arms, Zeus could not quite bring himself to do it. He truly loved Metis; his feelings were very sincere, even though he loved other goddesses in much the same way.
"What is it, my beloved? Do you not wish to remain with me forever?" Metis tilted her head and asked sadly, "Do you not love me enough?"
