Background / History
Academy Competition
Xie Yue studies in Senior Class One with his younger sister, Hu Liena, and Yan. The three are identified as the Golden Generation and are the class’s youngest students before Han Bing arrives. Xie Yue initially questions whether the six-year-old newcomer meets the advanced academy’s admission requirements, then accepts his qualification after Gao Lan reveals his innate full spirit power, twin spirits, and connection to Guang Ling Douluo 7.
During Han Bing’s first practical combat class, Xie Yue defeats Wu Tian and Lin Yuetian before facing Han Bing. Neither his blade strikes nor his soul skills can overcome Han Bing’s elementalization. Han Bing freezes his weapons and immobilizes him, ending the match. Afterward, Xie Yue advises Hu Liena to concede rather than face the same overwhelming ability 8 10 11.
Three Against One
Xie Yue hopes to test whether his fusion skill with Hu Liena can overcome Han Bing, but she instead chooses Han Bing as her two-on-two partner. He teams up with Yan and wins their opening match. Both remain conscious when Han Bing’s newly awakened Conqueror’s Haki knocks out most of the other students 12 14.
When Han Bing proposes fighting the entire Golden Generation without his second martial soul and with his five senses sealed, Xie Yue accepts despite resenting the apparent condescension. He directs the trio’s attacks and eventually fuses with Hu Liena to use Demon Charm. Han Bing withstands their assault with Haki and defeats them, turning himself into a benchmark for their subsequent training 15 16.
Soto Arena Training
Six years later, Xie Yue has reached level 43. Gao Lan assigns the class special training at the Soto Soul Fighting Arena, requiring anonymous participation and Gold Soul Fighting Badges. Xie Yue is specifically forbidden from using his martial soul fusion skill and is paired with Liu Mingyue for two-on-two matches 18 19 20.
The class competes collectively as the Masked Battle Team, defeating the War Bear Battle Team while Han Bing provides support. Their years of sparring against Han Bing are credited with strengthening their combat ability and physiques. The group completes its arena training and obtains Gold Soul Fighting Badges far sooner than Gao Lan’s planned two-year schedule 23 27.
Personality
Xie Yue is competitive and reluctant to surrender without testing himself. He promises not to go easy on Han Bing merely because the newcomer has only one soul ring. Even after witnessing Han Bing’s overwhelming strength, he and Yan insist on another match rather than accepting defeat in advance 7 15.
His pride does not prevent him from reassessing an opponent. He recognizes the danger Han Bing poses after Yan’s defeat, searches for counters to elementalization, and later becomes sincerely impressed by Han Bing’s strength. By the journey to Soto City, their earlier rivalry has developed into a harmonious relationship 10 11 12 20.
