No matter what, the Hori Kingdom did not possess the several hundred Holy Light Cannons rumored to exist. That was good news. Benjamin felt considerably calmer as well. He took a deep breath and began casting.
Not just him—several hundred mages atop the city walls began casting at the same time, gathering more magical shields and layering them behind the runic defensive array, just in case.
"Can't those things you prepared start counterattacking now?" Benjamin asked as he condensed frost, turning his head.
"The distance isn't close enough yet. They need to come a little nearer before the falling rocks we prepared can show their power." The chairman was also focused on constructing defensive magic as he answered.
Benjamin sighed.
Locke City stood at the crest of an uphill slope, a highly advantageous defensive position. Yet the Hori Kingdom seemed ready to launch its offensive. If they could only huddle here and defend, it truly felt stifling.
Just like now, they seemed able only to wait on tenterhooks for the enemy army to fire, like suspects awaiting an unknown verdict—if the runic defensive array failed to withstand the Holy Light Cannons, they might be wiped out in a single wave!
Yet other than defending, there was nothing they could do...
"Headmaster, this is bad. The people below are causing a disturbance. They want us to open the defensive array and let them leave." Several mages responsible for controlling the array suddenly flew up and spoke in low voices.
"Leaving the city now is impossible. You don't need to pay them any attention," Benjamin said without hesitation.
"But... there are government officials among them, and their positions aren't low. They also have many soldiers under their command. We can't just let them make trouble down there."
Benjamin frowned tightly at that.
