Background
Skylark’s verifiable early identity is unclear. An investigation found that her birth name could not be confirmed: her Ascender parents reportedly died while pursued by enemies, leaving her unregistered until an adoptive family gave her the nickname “Skylark.” 388
Records associated with her recovered memories identify an S-class host body named Su Xiang, born on December 31, 2000. Mount Buzhou later made her a prized experimental subject under the Azure Dragon Progenitor. Intended as a Spirit Coffin-like weapon capable of entering the real world, she instead developed into something beyond the researchers’ expectations within fourteen years. 369 383
Her memories are fragmented and partly unreliable. She recalls living with four younger brothers, receiving help from an elderly man, and losing her family under mysterious circumstances; however, the supposed hometown and Forbidden Zone she remembered do not exist in the present world. 370 371 388
Before the Sea of Eternal Life incident, Skylark was Dusk’s lowest-ranked yet most mysterious ultimate weapon. Almost nobody had seen her face or knew her origin, but she was regarded as a pillar supporting the Dark World and a chosen figure foretold by the former King. 302
Appearance
Skylark is an extraordinarily beautiful woman with long ink-black hair, pale skin, and a slender, curvaceous figure. Her appearance can shift dramatically through clothing and demeanor, ranging from an ordinary anime-watching tourist to an intimidating combatant. 316 327 373
- Usually has long black hair and striking, bewitching eyes.
- Often wears a deep crimson short dress in battle, sometimes paired with a seductive ghost-face mask. 322
- Can adopt numerous modern styles, including casual streetwear and inconspicuous tourist clothing. 373
- Her combat presence is commonly associated with blood-red lightning, mandala flowers, and an orchid-and-musk fragrance. 351 363
Personality
Skylark is intensely guarded, proud, and distrustful. Following her amnesia, she believes almost no one in the world is trustworthy and hides her vulnerability behind mockery, manipulation, and an imperious “elder sister” persona. 325 336
She is also a neat freak with a strong aversion to unwanted physical contact, though Gu Jianlin evokes an instinctive sense of bloodline closeness that she cannot initially explain. 324 She enjoys clean roadside food stalls, noodles, tamagoyaki, chocolate ice cream, and sweet tofu pudding despite her lofty status. 336 370 373
Her recovered memories reveal a more emotional and protective side. She feels grief, confusion, anger, and loneliness over her lost family, and she becomes hesitant when forced to confront her own past. 369 370 Although she frequently uses Gu Jianlin for her own aims, she gradually acknowledges that she needs his help and cannot fully sever her feelings for him. 353 542 545
Abilities & Skills
Ghost Slayer Path
Skylark is described as the strongest Ghost Slayer and an entity at the path’s highest level. 327 345
- Defeated Rhine and the Tribunal Saints alone during her debut at the Sea of Eternal Life. 322 372
- Can move at speeds that appear to transcend time and space. 541
- Her combat style centers on close-range blade attacks, spatial movement, and overwhelming rank suppression.
Dimensional Slash and Ultimate Strike
Skylark can sever or distort space-time through her Ghost Slayer abilities.
- Dimensional Slash tears apart space-time and can be incorporated into her blade attacks. 345
- Ultimate Strike is the eighth-rank Ghost Slayer ability, creating overlapping slashes through space and time from a single swing. 345
- Her Ultimate Strike produces seemingly infinite blade-light rather than the hundreds of strikes achievable by ordinary Ghost Slayers. 345
- Her Dimensional Slash is ineffective against certain entities within the City of Sin, unlike Qilin’s Wedge. 423
Heavenly Human Realm
Skylark mastered Celestial Breathing despite her connection to Dusk and possesses a Heavenly Human Domain superior to Rhine’s. 322
- Her domain erases Ancient God Breath, functioning as both a supreme attack and defense. 346
- A stronger Heavenly Human can seize control of a weaker opponent’s domain; Skylark used this advantage against Rhine. 346
- She can teach Gu Jianlin methods for wielding the Heavenly Human Domain. 345 346
Space-Time Manipulation
Skylark possesses exceptional command of space-time, linked to the Candle Dragon Clan and the Ghost Slayer Path. 351
- Teleports herself and others over short distances. 324
- Froze time and space to defeat the pseudo-ancestor Miyamoto Kojiro. 326
- Can rewind time and space to investigate past events, though emotional instability can disrupt the process. 369
- Can break spatial barriers by merging with Gu Jianlin and taking control of his body. 351
Future Sight and Causal Reversal
Skylark can perceive possible futures and intends to use causality-based abilities against captured targets.
- Uses Future Sight to anticipate danger, though it fails against forces of sufficiently high rank. 336 363
- Can perform or attempt Causal Reversal after capturing an opponent. 345
- Her predictions are constrained by incomplete self-knowledge and her injuries. 363 422
Soul-Melding Secret Art
Skylark can merge her power with Gu Jianlin through an exclusive alchemical matrix belonging to their species. 337
- The fusion allows each to access the other’s knowledge and deepens their shared perception. 337
- Gu Jianlin can wield a portion of her power as the fusion develops. 337
- She uses Gu Jianlin as a “human pillar” during periods of injury and hibernation. 337 371
- The merger permits Gu Jianlin to profile her past more effectively while she rewinds time and space. 369
Divine Servants
Skylark can command Divine Servants and teaches Gu Jianlin a more effective way to use them. 337
- Her servant Ye Ni can carry part of her power and act on her behalf. 497 505
- A Divine Servant’s body cannot safely bear too much of Skylark’s power for extended combat. 505
- Divine Servants share authority with their Lord, making them difficult to identify unless they reveal themselves. 373
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Nine Yin — A growth-type Mythic Armament and blade that shows unusual affinity toward Skylark. 324 427
- Ghost Blade — Her blood-red combat blade, used in clashes with Gu Jianlin and other high-level opponents. 426 427
- Lightning sword — Used to execute Black Judge with a thunderous attack. 363
Relationships
- Gu Jianlin / Qilin — Her fellow hybrid and “one-of-a-kind kin.” They merge powers, cooperate against mutual enemies, later become hostile rivals over the Colorless Jade, and retain unresolved attachment despite their conflict. 336 337 426 505 542
- Xia Yu — Her devoted attendant. Skylark protects her from Gu Jianlin’s attention and recognizes Xia Yu’s trauma from Rhine. 316
- The Strategist — A Dusk leader who calls her the young lady and mobilizes Dusk candidates to locate and stabilize her after her disappearance. 334
- Azure Dragon Progenitor — The figure responsible for receiving her as an experimental subject; Skylark later seeks to regain her power and kill him. 369 393
- White Dragon — The Azure Dragon Progenitor’s sixth-ranked Dragon Attendant. He fears Skylark and regards her as a creature beyond reason. 369
- Mr. Solomon — A Reclusive Society adversary who knows of her incomplete evolution and attempts to recruit her. Skylark rejects him and severely wounds him. 345
- Ye Ni — Her Divine Servant, used to intervene against Rhine and question Gu Cibei about Gu Jianlin’s whereabouts. 497
- Vermilion Bird Venerable — A temporary ally beneath the Torchlight Divine Tree, though their goals differ and Skylark cannot bring herself to fully betray Gu Jianlin. 542
- Candle Dragon Venerable — Skylark bears a connection to this Supreme through her name, dragon bone, and powers, but her exact relationship to the Venerable remains uncertain. 336 369 383
Story Role / Major Arcs
- Sea of Eternal Life — Skylark emerges as Dusk’s decisive weapon, overwhelms Rhine and the Tribunal Saints, and joins Gu Jianlin in killing the Kui Bird Progenitor. A vermilion-fire attack disrupts her, after which she and Gu Jianlin are swallowed by dimensional turbulence. 316 322
- Yokohama amnesia — Injured and unable to remember her purpose, she flees with the unconscious Gu Jianlin, turns him into a puppet-like attendant, and evades the Reclusive Society. 324 325
- Human pillar alliance — She merges with Gu Jianlin via the Soul-Melding Secret Art, teaches him to use Divine Servants and the Heavenly Human Domain, and relies on him while her own condition forces periods of hibernation. 337 346 371
- Past investigation — Gu Jianlin and Skylark rewind time and space to uncover her origin as an Azure Dragon Progenitor experiment. Her childhood memories and supposed hometown are later shown to be distorted or incomplete. 369 388
- City of Sin betrayal — Under the influence of the blood-colored Supreme’s power, Skylark attacks Gu Jianlin to seize the Colorless Jade. Their former partnership collapses into open hostility. 426 428
- Third Law conflict — After completing her evolution, Skylark acts through Ye Ni and battles Gu Jianlin for the alchemical matrix that could create a Third Life. They pause their fight only when the Tribunal intervenes. 497 505
- Torchlight Divine Tree — Skylark is forced to choose between opposing Baize Venerable’s plan and allowing Gu Jianlin’s destructive rampage. She later works with Vermilion Bird Venerable but cannot fully turn against Gu Jianlin. 540 542
