Ch. 301Spoils of battle! Demon-hunting rewards!
Plot points and events
- After destroying the Crow’s Nest, Wu Yu uses the Bronze Tripod [Heaven’s Return] to clear away his exhaustion and restore some of his energy. The recovery also strips away his emotions, leaving him calm and focused.
- He checks on his recovering allies in the [Hundred-Thousand Mountains], then quickly gathers the battle spoils: around seven hundred Cards, including Spirit Stones, Monster Cores, more than twenty purple Cards, and eight gold Cards. He plans to bring the unusually valuable Spirit Stones back to the Real World and trade Monster Cores at Hidden Shops.
- Before he can search the ravine for treasure, the [Quiet Crystal] detects a gigantic, powerful monster outside the [Silent Barrier]. Wu Yu’s [Profound Spirit Heavenly Eye] warns him that it is far beyond his strength, so he flees rather than risk a fight. The monster breaks through the barrier but finds only the ravaged battlefield.
- Wu Yu returns to the [Immortal-Burial Daoist Temple]. On the way, he encounters dangerous ghosts and aberrations; with his Heavenly Eye temporarily transforming, hunting proves difficult. A sighting of a ghost child frightens him into hurrying on.
- At the temple, he collects his mission reward: two hundred thousand local Spirit Stones and a Jade Slip.
Character developments and interactions
- Wu Yu remains pragmatic and cautious: despite his confidence after defeating the Crow’s Nest, he abandons potential treasure and avoids a clearly superior foe.
- The Bronze Tripod’s power helps him recover physically and mentally, but its emotional cost leaves him detached.
- His allies in the Hundred-Thousand Mountains are recovering, though they do not appear directly.
- Wu Yu exchanges only brief, practical words with the temple novice, who hands over the reward without asking questions.
Significant themes
- Risk and restraint: Survival takes precedence over loot or further hunting.
- Resourcefulness and strategy: Wu Yu assesses which spoils will be most valuable in the Real World and plans accordingly.
- The limits of power: His victory over the Crow’s Nest does not protect him from threats far beyond his level.
- The eerie unknown: The immense monster, transformed Heavenly Eye, and ghost child reinforce the danger and uncertainty of the night.
