Ch. 501Hidden Quest! Transcendent Red Card!
Plot points and events
- After recovering from his injuries, Wu Yu reflects that the Ghost Ship’s skeleton crew may have been controlled by the ship itself, rather than acting independently.
- Killing Captain Kro triggers the hidden quest Kro’s Longing: return the protective necklace Kro’s wife gave him. Wu Yu already has the Gemstone Necklace, so he expects to complete the quest when he returns.
- The Ghost Ship’s crew drop nearly three hundred cards. Wu Yu keeps several valuable gold-grade rewards and a red-grade Nightmare Beast Egg, which may hatch into a colossal sea creature.
- Unsure whether the egg is useful to him, Wu Yu learns from the Fate Compass that Nightmare Beasts are nightmares made real in the Secret Sea. Such beasts ordinarily cannot reproduce, so the egg appears to be an exception created by the Tower.
- Later, aboard the Tower Ship, Allen excitedly tells Amy about Wu Yu’s powers. He then hears Little Vick calling from outside the window and goes to investigate.
Character developments and interactions
- Wu Yu remains cautious and pragmatic: despite the egg’s potential, he doubts he can raise or house a giant creature before returning from the Sea World. He consults the Fate Compass for information rather than spending a limited fate prompt.
- The Twilight Witch tends to Wu Yu while he recovers and listens to his theory about the Ghost Ship.
- The Fate Compass explains Nightmare Beasts but cannot identify what kind of creature the egg will hatch.
- Allen is awed by Wu Yu and wishes he could use witchcraft; his curiosity leads him toward the mysterious voice. Amy remains troubled, though the reason is not given.
Significant themes
- Uncertainty and limited knowledge: Wu Yu must interpret clues and make decisions despite the Fate Compass’s incomplete information.
- Power and risk: The Nightmare Beast Egg promises enormous strength but may be difficult to control or use.
- A dangerous world shaped by imagination: In the Secret Sea, nightmares become real, making even people’s dreams a potential source of danger.
