One day in mid-April, Wang Ye hesitated for a long time before finally picking up the phone on his desk and dialing a number.
Once the call connected, Wang Ye said directly,
"Hello, Ambassador Zhang. This is Mikhail, Deputy Speaker of the Duma. There is something very important I need to discuss. Could you come to my office?"
The reason Wang Ye had not gone to the embassy in person, but instead invited Ambassador Zhang to his office, was to avoid suspicion.
After all, it was perfectly normal for an ambassador stationed abroad to visit various government institutions in the host country. But it was unusual for someone as important as Wang Ye to visit a foreign embassy, and it could easily draw attention.
Although Wang Ye had not said what he wanted to discuss over the phone, Ambassador Zhang agreed without hesitation and said he would be there immediately.
He understood that if Wang Ye had personally called to invite him over, yet would not mention the matter on the phone, then it had to be something important!
Less than an hour later, there was a knock on Wang Ye's office door. Nova led Ambassador Zhang inside.
Wang Ye rose to greet him. After shaking hands and exchanging pleasantries, he invited the ambassador to sit down. Only after Nova brought over coffee and left the office did Wang Ye speak with a grave expression.
"I invited you here today because there is something I need to tell you.
"But before I say it, I need to remind you of something.
"No matter what I say next, do not ask me why. There are some things I cannot explain to you in detail. Do you understand?"
Ambassador Zhang nodded vaguely. No matter what Wang Ye said, he would simply listen.
