History

Academy and Team 7

Sasuke was a highly talented but cold and aloof Ninja Academy student. His strength and appearance made him popular among his classmates, while his stated ambition was to kill someone and avenge the Uchiha Clan. 1 4

He became a member of Team 7 alongside Naruto Uzumaki, Sakura Haruno, and Sū Bai under Kakashi Hatake. Suspicious of Sū Bai's motives, Sasuke challenged him to a spar and was decisively defeated after his Great Fireball Technique was split apart by Ryūjin Jakka. He subsequently vowed to surpass him. 2 3 4

During Kakashi's bell test, Sasuke initially questioned Sū Bai's insistence on including Sakura in their cooperation. Sū Bai's warning that abandoning companions was worse than breaking rules changed Sasuke's view of the test and of his teammate. 6 7

Land of Waves

Sasuke's Sharingan first awakened as he feared that Su Bai would die before his eyes, reviving memories of the Uchiha massacre. He resolved to use the power to protect those he cared about. 9

On the Land of Waves mission, he struggled against the killing intent of Hidden Mist shinobi and Zabuza's Water Clone. He later protected Naruto during the battle with Haku, receiving severe injuries in the process. 13 16 21

Chūnin Exams

Orochimaru's appearance exposed Sasuke's fear and hesitation. He initially attempted to surrender their scroll, but Naruto's anger and Su Bai's reminders of his revenge forced him to confront Orochimaru instead. This struggle awakened Sasuke's three-tomoe Sharingan, allowing him to fight back and injure Orochimaru. 30 31

Orochimaru subsequently branded him with the Cursed Seal. Though the seal restricted his chakra use, Sasuke defeated Yoroi Akadō in the preliminaries by adapting copied Rock Lee techniques into his own taijutsu. 32 36

During Gaara's attack on Konoha, Sasuke used Chidori to break Gaara's sand defense and injure him repeatedly. The strain of using Chidori and the Cursed Seal's influence eventually caused him to collapse. 49

Pursuit of Power and Itachi

Unable to accept falling behind Su Bai and Naruto, Sasuke chose to go to Orochimaru to gain strength. He refused to abandon that decision even when Su Bai and Naruto confronted him at the Valley of the End. 71

After two and a half years, Sasuke reappeared wielding the Kusanagi Sword and displaying Chidori Stream and Kirin. Although he claimed to have surpassed Su Bai, Su Bai ended their spar before seriously defeating him. 83

Sasuke eventually fought Itachi in their final battle. Itachi died after leaving Sasuke his ocular powers, but Obito took Sasuke away before Team 7 could reach him. 94 95

Revenge and the Fourth Shinobi World War

Sasuke confronted Danzō over the Uchiha massacre and killed him after exhausting Danzō's Izanagi. 104 105

Following this revenge, Sasuke and Su Bai staged hostility before Obito, with Sasuke declaring that he would destroy Konoha. He then chose to transplant Itachi's eyes, intending to gain enough power to kill Su Bai. 107

During the Fourth Shinobi World War, Sasuke reunited with Team 7. Rather than simply seeking destruction, he declared his intention to change Konoha and joined Naruto and Sakura in competing for the title of Hokage. 126

He can become paralyzed by overwhelming opponents, as seen in his first confrontation with Orochimaru. However, direct challenges to his pride, clan, and revenge consistently push him to fight through fear rather than surrender. 29 30 31
