"Boss Han, what is it?" Zhao Wenyuan asked, sitting in Han Luyi's office.
He felt a little apprehensive.
Han Luyi placed a full glass of water in front of Zhao Wenyuan, then sat down on the sofa opposite him.
"Wenyuan, you were at yesterday's closed-door meeting. What do you think about setting up an R&D center in Beijing?" Han Luyi asked slowly.
Zhao Wenyuan knew what Han Luyi was hinting at, but he gave a couple of dry chuckles and pretended not to understand.
"Boss Han, of course I support it. Beijing has excellent resources."
He glanced at Han Luyi as he spoke, then looked away.
He felt as though Han Luyi could see right through him.
"I want you to head it up," Han Luyi said.
Zhao Wenyuan fell silent.
Honestly, from a rational standpoint, going out on his own to lead an entire R&D department would be a step up, both for his career and for the resources he controlled at Source Intelligence.
But emotionally, he didn't want to.
The reasons were complicated. Even he couldn't explain why.
