He picked up where Batman left off, stepped closer to Clark, and patted him on the shoulder. "That means the government may have been holding one of your kind all along and conducting all sorts of experiments on them."
Clark froze.
The next second, his bioelectric aura began expanding out of control.
Leon stood firm where he was, while his battle skirt was blown upward.
Batman adjusted his stance slightly and steadied himself as well.
Then, the entire Batcave began to tremble. The bats flew about in panic, and small rocks occasionally fell from above.
But the disturbance quickly subsided.
The first thing the calmed Clark did was apologize. "Sorry, Bruce. I frightened your bats."
"I think you should be more concerned about how you're going to pay for the Batcave repairs."
As the Boy Scout instantly fell into troubled thought, Leon shrugged. "Just a joke. You know I'm rich."
Just then, the butler called out to the three of them.
"Gentlemen, I believe you need some rest after being busy all night."
Alfred pushed over a dining cart bearing the meal he had carefully prepared that day.
Although the young master had been busy today and had overextended himself again,
he was still very happy.
Because Leon and Superman were here.
He had always felt that, compared to picking up unfortunate underage children everywhere and making them Robins, Bruce ought to have friends like these.
They were adults with common topics. That was what counted as healthy.
Leon picked up a flatbread first, took one for himself, then handed one to Clark.
"Delicious. Thank you, sir."
After wolfing it down, Clark asked Batman, "Bruce, do you know where they're holding my kind?"
"I only know one location. Judging by the timing, there's a chance they've already been moved."
Leon was still immersed in Alfred's superb cooking, utterly oblivious to the world around him.
Only after a while did he join the conversation. "At the very least, we can find some clues there. I'll make a trip."
The Boy Scout had not quite processed it yet and instinctively objected. "But you're on our side. Wouldn't that..."
"What are you talking about? I'm General Zod's most loyal adjutant. Don't slander me."
As Leon spoke, he finished another bowl of cream stew.
(I'm a little stuck on the plot. The next chapter will be updated around midnight.)
I Was a Kryptonian All Along
In a secret laboratory and prison somewhere beneath the lighthouse,
Amanda Waller questioned someone over the communicator. "Mr. Luthor, we worked together on this project. You moved the test subject away just like that and left me with only this?"
Her anger made her already harsh, bloated face even uglier.
"Nothing could be done. This laboratory couldn't support me in completing that collar. The mission comes first, Ms. Waller."
On the other end of the communication, Luthor sat with one leg crossed over the other, admiring Metropolis's beautiful nightscape.
Superman had not appeared in his city for an entire day. Wonderful!
The corners of his mouth curled up, and he could not stop smiling.
The explanation he gave Amanda was true, but that was not all of it.
A major reason was that, some time ago, he had discovered an outsider secretly stealing the laboratory's data.
The other party was so skilled that even a genius like him could not trace them.
He could only confirm that it was happening.
Perhaps it was those aliens? Perhaps Superman had been absent because he was doing this? Perhaps...
But no matter what, that laboratory was no longer safe. Kara Zor-El had to be relocated.
That bitch Amanda had wanted to use the government's power to drive him out of the laboratory and seize absolute control.
Even if he had already ruined her plan, she should still pay the price for it.
Luthor brought up a holographic projection. He had left a backdoor when he handed over control, and it displayed the laboratory's surveillance footage.
"Hehehe, let's see who comes over."
"Tch!"
At the same time, Amanda, who had just ended the communication, realized she had been toyed with and angrily swept everything off the nearby table.
Amid the scattering papers, she made another call. "We acted too late. Luthor moved the test subject ahead of time and only left me Metal Man."
"But it doesn't matter. He acted too hastily and crudely. I'll definitely get the test subject back under our control."
Amanda looked through the observation window beside her, sweeping her gaze over the scene below.
The room constructed from lead-lined metal was dented everywhere, with bloodstains covering it from top to bottom.
You could clearly distinguish old and new blood by their colors alone, enough to show how long this room had been in use.
This was a training ground, with a device above it that simulated solar energy.
Here, Amanda had directed her subordinates to harm the test subject, Kara, in every possible way.
They constantly adjusted the output of the solar device, using bullets and even rockets, Kryptonite and the latest Metal Man.
Amid the other party's shrill screams and pleas, they calculated all sorts of data on the alien.
Especially during the recent Metal Man test, the subject had not even had the strength to make a sound.
But in Amanda's eyes, Kara's value had not nearly been exhausted.
Yet compared with relying on that unreliable technology for control, someone like her, who had delved deeply into threats and conspiracies, preferred to trust human nature.
Based on her analysis of Superman, if she held an innocent member of his species in her hands, there was a very high chance he would be willing to work for the government.
That was how the rules of the world worked. Good people were meant to be bullied.
"Hehehe, just wait and see, Luthor."
Amanda sat down, her bloated body directly bending the office chair beneath her.
She clasped her hands together and began imagining the day Superman would wear white eagle shoulder guards and drape himself in a flag cape.
But the next moment, her dream shattered.
"Beep—beep—beep—"
A shrill alarm rang out.
Amanda hurriedly stood and pulled up the surveillance footage on her computer.
The laboratory had been converted from a missile silo, and the alarm was coming from the shaft entrance.
On the screen, several patrolling soldiers aimed their guns at the sky, where—
a man in alien armor hovered in the air.
Then his voice came through.
"Earthlings."
He first spoke in Chinese, then switched to English. "What a pain. Listen up, you monkeys who haven't even unified your language."
"I am an adjutant under General Zod. He sent me here to find a Kryptonian citizen whom you have imprisoned for a long time."
The man calling himself an adjutant raised three fingers.
"I'll give you three seconds. Hand him over. Three—"
The problem is, I fucking don't have him!
Silently cursing that she had fallen for another one of Luthor's schemes, Amanda hurriedly took control of the channel and prepared to speak.
However, just as her finger pressed the button, that guy directly skipped to the end of the countdown.
"Zero. Time's up~"
Amanda realized that the other party had never intended to communicate.
Boom!
She watched as the adjutant on the screen broke the sound barrier and shot into the air, leaving rings of white vapor behind him.
The sudden acceleration sent those soldiers flying, their fates unknown.
At that moment, soldiers responding to the alarm were setting up defenses above and below the shaft entrance.
But it was all meaningless, because the adjutant had returned.
High in the sky, he became a meteor and plunged straight downward.
The soldiers raising their guns layer upon layer could not keep up with his speed. In the blink of an eye, he had gone from the air to the bottom of the shaft.
Then, when they opened their eyes again, they saw their own limbs flying through the air.
Wherever the adjutant passed, the soldiers' bodies were mercilessly torn apart by the shockwaves.
Then, under the crushing pressure of that immense power, cracks spread across the shaft walls, spewing dust.
At last, the entire structure collapsed with a thunderous crash!
On Amanda's computer, the surveillance footage froze at the instant the adjutant entered the passage.
Then it was swallowed by the collapsed missile silo.
Inside the passage, Leon casually loosened up his body.
Batman had made this outfit by imitating the information Superman had provided.
There was no real technology involved. To Leon, it was nowhere near as comfortable as Viltrumite battle armor.
He looked toward the soldiers standing in formation around the corner ahead and flicked away the incoming rocket with one hand.
"Boring technology. You think something like this can contend with flesh and blood?"
He stared at the squad.
In an instant, his field of vision shifted to the corner of the passage.
Behind him, soldiers' heads were flying into the air. The commander's head was among them, held in his hand.
"You are so fragile. On Krypton, you wouldn't even qualify to be slaves."
Meeting the man's still-unreacting expression, Leon crushed his head.
He felt somewhat nostalgic.
It had been a long time since he had acted like a Viltrumite. Proclamations, clearing the map—he was still as skilled as ever at his old trade.
According to Clark, Krypton had also once undergone a period of aggressive expansion and conquest, and General Zod had been one of its most outstanding figures.
Leon had immediately realized that was right up his alley. I was a Kryptonian all along.
