Background and history

Shrek Academy is a grand institution with an annual admissions day and enormous statues at its entrance, including a statue of Sea God Tang San. Li Qingming regards the academy as standing on the side of his historic enemy, though he enrolls there under coercion from the Holy Spirit Cult. 2 3

The academy was divided into inner and outer academies approximately six thousand years earlier. While outsiders see this as a division by strength, Xuan Zi states that the inner academy’s true purpose is to supervise Soul Masters and prevent abuses of their power. 69

For nearly ten thousand years, Shrek Academy’s representative team had maintained a first-place record in the National Soul Master Tournament. That undefeated legacy is ultimately broken when Sun Moon Royal Soul Engineer Academy defeats Shrek in the tournament. 74 117 120

Core disciples and the Shrek Seven Monsters

The academy holds a core-disciple selection tournament for second-year students. The final seven participants become candidates for the Shrek Seven Monsters and serve as that generation’s reserve team for the National Soul Master Tournament. 59 62

He later infiltrates the Academic Affairs Office at night and steals the first-year roster. The academy’s investigation finds the roster missing and Zhou Yi severely injured, but no other irregularities in the office. 20 23

Li Qingming and Wang Dong are subsequently targeted for assassination. Yan Shaozhe saves them, and Shrek Academy formally demands compensation or judgment from the White Tiger Duke’s Estate after an interrogated assassin reveals its involvement. 56

National Soul Master Tournament

Shrek Academy enters the National Soul Master Tournament with its reserve team after its senior members are seriously injured. The reserve members are unusually young for the event, where most competitors are eighteen or nineteen years old. 74 76

The academy’s staff and students place immense importance on defending its historic tournament record. Wang Yan repeatedly invokes “Shrek’s glory,” while the team is presented publicly as the continent’s foremost academy. 75 103
