Background and history

Shrek Academy is a grand institution with an annual admissions day and enormous statues at its entrance, including a statue of Sea God Tang San. Li Qingming regards the academy as standing on the side of his historic enemy, though he enrolls there under coercion from the Holy Spirit Cult. 2 3

The academy was divided into inner and outer academies approximately six thousand years earlier. While outsiders see this as a division by strength, Xuan Zi states that the inner academy’s true purpose is to supervise Soul Masters and prevent abuses of their power. 69

For nearly ten thousand years, Shrek Academy’s representative team had maintained a first-place record in the National Soul Master Tournament. That undefeated legacy is ultimately broken when Sun Moon Royal Soul Engineer Academy defeats Shrek in the tournament. 74 117 120

Following the tournament loss, Shrek’s public standing deteriorates. Students and other observers blame the reserve team for failing to uphold the academy’s glory despite the senior team’s earlier losses and injuries, while the academy’s leadership imposes disciplinary measures on the participants. 122 125

Shrek subsequently faces further scrutiny when it openly assaults the Star Luo Empire to seize a purported Divine Elixir. The academy abandons its usual posture of political neutrality because Mu En’s remaining lifespan is short and its elders seek to preserve the institution’s future strength. The elixir is part of Li Qingming’s scheme: although it visibly rejuvenates Mu En, it burns through his bloodline and remaining potential rather than extending his life. 168 169 170

Mu En’s subsequent death deprives Shrek of its greatest protector before Xuan Zi can reach the Ultimate Douluo level. Li Qingming then carries out a Soul Tool bombing that destroys major academy facilities and kills hundreds of students, further weakening the institution. 176 177

Li Qingming openly criticizes the academy’s emphasis on “survival of the fittest” and preferential allocation of resources to students considered valuable. 6 7

Core disciples and the Shrek Seven Monsters

The academy holds a core-disciple selection tournament for second-year students. The final seven participants become candidates for the Shrek Seven Monsters and serve as that generation’s reserve team for the National Soul Master Tournament. 59 62

Internal discipline and succession

After the National Soul Master Tournament defeat, Mu En convenes a Sea God’s Pavilion council. Ma Xiaotao, Ling Luochen, and Dai Yueheng are confined; Li Qingming and Wang Dong are sent to the Cliff of Reflection; and the other reserve members receive demerits and the temporary loss of their core-disciple benefits. 125

The academy’s leadership regards powerful martial-soul bloodlines and soul-bone inheritances as assets for Shrek’s long-term succession. Mu En in particular intends to retain Li Qingming and use the Six-Winged Angel bloodline to establish a continuing god-tier inheritance within the academy. 119 139

This policy creates increasing conflict with Li Qingming. He is restricted from important academy resources and areas, assigned dangerous missions, and ultimately accused of betraying the academy and seriously harming Huo Yuhao. 154 165 167

Mu En’s failing health also shapes the academy’s decisions. Shrek’s elders seize the purported Divine Elixir in the hope that it will keep him alive long enough for Xuan Zi to break through to Ultimate Douluo. Instead, the elixir’s apparent restoration conceals the destruction of Mu En’s remaining potential, and his death leaves Shrek’s planned succession without its strongest safeguard. 169 170 176

Security incidents

Li Qingming enters Shrek Academy as a Holy Spirit Cult agent under Ye Xishui’s orders, tasked with reporting promising students to the cult. 2

He later infiltrates the Academic Affairs Office at night and steals the first-year roster. The academy’s investigation finds the roster missing and Zhou Yi severely injured, but no other irregularities in the office. 20 23

Li Qingming and Wang Dong are subsequently targeted for assassination. Yan Shaozhe saves them, and Shrek Academy formally demands compensation or judgment from the White Tiger Duke’s Estate after an interrogated assassin reveals its involvement. 56

Sea God’s Pavilion later assigns Li Qingming to lead Wang Dong’er and seven outer-court students against suspected Evil Soul Masters. The mission leads them into a village filled with corpses and hostile puppet-like villagers; two students are killed after panicking and fleeing. 154 155 156

During the aftermath of that mission, Mu En secretly removes Li Qingming’s fused Angel Soul Bone and leaves his arm permanently ruined. The academy does not provide him immediate treatment despite possessing or being able to obtain limb-regeneration medicine, prompting Yan Shaozhe to protest at Sea God’s Pavilion. 159 160 161

After Huo Yuhao awakens and accuses Li Qingming of attacking him, Xuan Zi forcibly arrests Li Qingming. Mu En confiscates his remaining soul bones, orders him imprisoned in the water prison, and announces that he will face a public trial for betrayal and injuring a fellow student. 166 167 169

Li Qingming later exploits gaps in the academy’s surveillance and Soul Tool defenses while under restriction. Over six months, he plants more than forty Seventh-Level Fixed Soul Guidance Shells and two Pseudo-Eighth-Level shells across the academy, intending to leave them as a retaliatory “gift” while attributing the operation to his Fallen Clone. 165

Li Qingming also engineers the Divine Elixir deception that draws Shrek’s elders into conflict with the Star Luo Empire. After Mu En consumes the elixir, Li Qingming escapes confinement with Little White’s help and infiltrates Sea God’s Pavilion while his Fallen Clone prepares the explosives’ remote controller outside Shrek City. 168 169 170

After Mu En’s death, Li Qingming’s Light Clone destroys Shrek’s entrance gates, leaves the detonator near the entrance, and flees. The resulting explosions devastate the Soul Guidance Department, kill hundreds of students, and destroy the Inner Court’s main gate. Xuan Zi disables many planted devices, but cannot prevent every detonation; Shrek’s elders and teachers divide into teams to rescue students rather than pursue the attacker. 176 177

National Soul Master Tournament

Shrek Academy enters the National Soul Master Tournament with its reserve team after its senior members are seriously injured. The reserve members are unusually young for the event, where most competitors are eighteen or nineteen years old. 74 76

The academy’s staff and students place immense importance on defending its historic tournament record. Wang Yan repeatedly invokes “Shrek’s glory,” while the team is presented publicly as the continent’s foremost academy. 75 103
