Ch. 181Holy Spirit Cult Holy Son

Chapter Summary: “Holy Spirit Cult Holy Son”

Key Plot Points and Events

  • Li Qingming proposes a dangerous alliance or plan to Crown Prince Xu Tianran, presenting Mu En’s severed head as proof of his power and influence.
  • Xu Tianran does not immediately respond. He recognizes that Li Qingming possesses both a Six-Winged Angel martial soul and a Fallen Angel martial soul, along with divine, darkness, and corruption-based powers.
  • After Li Qingming leaves, Xu Tianran reflects on the proposal. Although he expects to secure the throne within several years and eventually conquer the continent, Li Qingming’s extraordinary potential persuades him to seriously consider accelerating or altering his plans.
  • Xu Tianran kills the black-clothed subordinate who witnessed the discussion, demonstrating his ruthlessness and desire to protect sensitive information. The subordinate’s body is removed by other attendants.
  • Li Qingming returns to the Holy Spirit Cult’s teahouse headquarters and presents Mu En’s head to Zhongli Wu.
  • Zhongli Wu confirms Li Qingming as the Holy Spirit Cult’s sole Holy Son. His authority is placed on the same level as the cult’s elders and directly below Zhongli Wu himself.
  • Unlike Ma Xiaotao and Tang Ya, who were treated as useful “Holy Maidens” and potential cultivation vessels, Li Qingming earns his position through genuine strength, status, and future potential.
  • Li Qingming begins considering how to use his new authority, particularly against Shrek Academy. He identifies Bei Bei as a potential future threat because of his Golden Holy Dragon martial soul.
  • Li Qingming also considers using Tang Ya as a spy within Shrek Academy, believing her position and connection to the academy make her an ideal agent.

Character Developments

  • Li Qingming displays composure, ambition, and strategic intelligence. He successfully gains Xu Tianran’s attention while also securing an exceptionally powerful position within the Holy Spirit Cult.
  • Xu Tianran reveals that he is not merely ambitious but deeply cautious and calculating. He fears the level of Li Qingming’s power, yet his desire for conquest makes him willing to consider cooperating with him. His execution of the black-clothed youth reinforces his merciless nature.
  • Zhongli Wu changes his attitude toward Li Qingming. Instead of treating him as an inferior, he recognizes Li Qingming as an equal-level powerhouse in potential and grants him unusual respect and authority.
  • Mu En, though dead, remains important through the lingering spiritual pressure and emotional force contained in his severed head. His death symbolizes a major loss for Shrek Academy and a victory for Li Qingming and the Holy Spirit Cult.
  • Bei Bei is established as a future target because of his Golden Holy Dragon martial soul and possible growth into a major combatant.
  • Tang Ya is considered for a possible espionage role, suggesting that Li Qingming intends to manipulate Shrek Academy from within.

Significant Themes

  • Power and hierarchy: Li Qingming’s strength allows him to transcend normal organizational ranks and receive authority usually reserved for the highest leaders.
  • Political manipulation and ambition: Both Li Qingming and Xu Tianran evaluate one another as potential allies while quietly calculating how to benefit from the relationship.
  • Fear of extraordinary power: Xu Tianran is disturbed not simply by Li Qingming’s strength but by the divine level of his abilities and his possession of twin martial souls.
  • Ruthlessness and secrecy: Xu Tianran’s execution of the witness shows how political power depends on eliminating risks and controlling information.
  • Exploitation versus genuine authority: The contrast between the instrumental treatment of the Holy Maidens and Li Qingming’s respected position highlights the difference between being used as a resource and being recognized as a true powerhouse.
  • Infiltration and betrayal: Li Qingming’s plan to place a spy inside Shrek Academy indicates that future conflict will involve deception and internal sabotage, not only open warfare.

Character Interactions

  • Li Qingming and Xu Tianran: Their conversation establishes mutual recognition between two ambitious figures. Xu Tianran understands that Li Qingming is dangerous, while Li Qingming recognizes that the crown prince needs time to assess the proposal.
  • Xu Tianran and the black-clothed youth: The youth’s fear contrasts with Xu Tianran’s cold control. After reassuring him that fear is natural, Xu Tianran kills him to ensure secrecy.
  • Li Qingming and Zhongli Wu: Li Qingming hands over Mu En’s head as both proof of his achievement and a demonstration of loyalty or value. Zhongli Wu responds by formally elevating him to Holy Son.
  • Li Qingming and Shrek Academy: Though no direct interaction occurs, Li Qingming’s thoughts reveal that he is shifting from defeating Shrek openly to undermining it through targeted elimination and espionage.

Ch. 182Tang Ya's Return

Chapter Summary: “Tang Ya’s Return”

Plot Points and Events

  • Li Qingming uses his newly granted authority as Holy Son to request Tang Ya as his subordinate.
  • Zhongli Wu agrees, viewing Tang Ya as only moderately talented and valuing her mainly as a potential cultivation resource because of her mutated Blue Silver Grass martial soul.
  • Tang Ya is summoned to meet Li Qingming at the Holy Spirit Cult’s headquarters in Mingdu.
  • Li Qingming orders her to return to Shrek Academy and assassinate Bei Bei, believing she can approach him easily because of their past connection.
  • To ensure her obedience, Li Qingming implants a strand of Fallen Power in Tang Ya’s forehead. The power acts as both a restraint and a trigger: if Tang Ya’s emotional connection with Bei Bei causes her to resist or regain her memories, Bei Bei will be killed.
  • Li Qingming’s motive is not personal hatred or direct concern about Bei Bei, but efficiency. He wants to prevent Bei Bei and the Tang Sect from contributing to the sect’s future growth without wasting his own time and effort.
  • He also regards Tang Ya’s possible death as acceptable, believing that even if Bei Bei survives, losing Tang Ya would damage his Dao heart.

Character Developments

  • Li Qingming is shown as calculating, detached, and ruthlessly pragmatic. He treats Tang Ya and Bei Bei as tools in a larger plan rather than as individuals. His new status as Holy Son also demonstrates his growing authority within the Holy Spirit Cult.
  • Tang Ya appears outwardly cold and obedient but is internally intimidated by Li Qingming’s power and reputation. Although she is the Saintess, she is reduced to a subordinate position and forced to accept a dangerous mission.
  • Zhongli Wu reveals his dismissive attitude toward Tang Ya, considering her talent ordinary and her value primarily utilitarian. He readily permits Li Qingming to control her.
  • Bei Bei does not appear directly, but he becomes the target of Li Qingming’s indirect scheme. His relationship with Tang Ya is presented as a potential weakness that Li Qingming intends to exploit.

Significant Themes

  • Power and hierarchy: Titles such as Holy Son and Saintess do not guarantee equality; Zhongli Wu’s orders establish Li Qingming’s clear superiority over Tang Ya.
  • Manipulation and loss of autonomy: Tang Ya is controlled through the Fallen Power and forced to act against someone connected to her past.
  • Instrumental treatment of people: Zhongli Wu and Li Qingming judge Tang Ya by her usefulness rather than her identity or humanity.
  • Emotional bonds as vulnerabilities: Li Qingming plans to weaponize Tang Ya and Bei Bei’s former relationship, believing recovered affection or memories can be turned into a means of destruction.
  • Psychological warfare and indirect conflict: Instead of personally killing Bei Bei, Li Qingming creates a situation designed to destroy both Bei Bei and Tang Ya emotionally and strategically.

Character Interactions

  • Li Qingming and Zhongli Wu: Their exchange establishes Li Qingming’s authority and Zhongli Wu’s willingness to indulge his requests. Zhongli Wu is surprised that Li Qingming wants Tang Ya rather than stronger elders.
  • Li Qingming and Tang Ya: Their meeting is dominated by fear and control. Tang Ya recognizes Li Qingming’s overwhelming status and submits to him, while he gives her a simple but lethal command and binds her with Fallen Power.
  • Tang Ya and Bei Bei: They do not meet in the chapter, but their past relationship is central to the plot. Li Qingming expects Tang Ya’s access to Bei Bei—and the possibility of renewed memories or affection—to make the assassination more effective.

Ch. 183Crown Prince's Residence

Chapter Summary

Key Plot Points and Events

  • Li Qingming withdraws after communicating his plan to Tang Ya. Soon afterward, two black-clad figures arrive, give Tang Ya instructions, and escort her away.
  • Li Qingming shares a meal with Zhongli Wu. Their conversation is limited, but both recognize that their interests may align.
  • Zhongli Wu reflects on Mu En’s death and its consequences. Ye Xishui had previously refrained from directly attacking Shrek Academy, but after Mu En’s death, she began targeting it and those connected to it.
  • Zhongli Wu realizes that Ye Xishui will discover his involvement in Mu En’s killing. Because Ye Xishui and Long Xiaoyao possess greater prestige and power than he does, Zhongli Wu begins preparing to deal with her.
  • Although they do not openly discuss it, Li Qingming and Zhongli Wu tacitly agree to cooperate against Ye Xishui, since their separate goals do not conflict.
  • Li Qingming returns to Sun Moon Imperial Academy, where subtle political movements are occurring within the empire. The Imperial City Guards have begun shifting position, and perceptive figures such as Jing Hongchen sense that something is wrong.
  • Exhausted from creating his Light Clone after killing Mu En, Li Qingming abandons meditation and sleeps. His Light Clone and Ice-Snow Clone also rest.
  • The next morning, Li Qingming brings breakfast to the girls’ dormitory for Wang Dong’er and Meng Hongchen. His appearance attracts attention, but he ignores other girls’ attempts to approach him.
  • Wang Dong’er and Meng Hongchen meet him, accept the food, and accompany him to class. Their familiar behavior makes their genuine relationships with him apparent.
  • Meanwhile, a large gathering of masked officials and supporters assembles inside the Crown Prince’s Residence, resembling a secret court meeting.

Character Developments

  • Li Qingming demonstrates composure, strategic intelligence, and political awareness. He understands Zhongli Wu’s fears and recognizes the potential value of cooperating with him, but deliberately keeps his own plans concealed.
  • Zhongli Wu becomes increasingly cautious and politically calculating. He recognizes that Mu En’s death may provoke Ye Xishui and threaten his authority, especially because he lacks the prestige of the empire’s strongest elders.
  • Tang Ya is left confused by Li Qingming’s actions but follows the instructions delivered by the mysterious black-clad figures.
  • Wang Dong’er and Meng Hongchen continue to share a close, comfortable relationship with Li Qingming. Their willingness to appear with him publicly suggests trust and familiarity.
  • Jing Hongchen is shown to be observant enough to detect political instability, even though he cannot yet identify its exact cause.

Significant Themes

  • Political manipulation and hidden alliances: Li Qingming and Zhongli Wu form an unspoken partnership based on mutual advantage rather than trust.
  • Power and succession: Zhongli Wu’s position as cult leader is weakened by the influence of Ye Xishui and Long Xiaoyao, emphasizing the difference between formal authority and true power.
  • Consequences of Mu En’s death: The assassination changes the balance between Ye Xishui, Shrek Academy, and the Holy Ghost Church, transforming a previously restrained conflict into an open threat.
  • Secrecy and concealment: Masks, clones, covert movements, and unspoken plans dominate the chapter.
  • Public image versus private reality: Li Qingming appears to be an ordinary student at the academy while secretly participating in major political and military developments.

Character Interactions

  • Li Qingming and Tang Ya have a brief but significant exchange, after which Tang Ya is taken away by mysterious agents.
  • Li Qingming and Zhongli Wu interact cautiously during their meal, communicating more through implication than direct statements.
  • Li Qingming, Wang Dong’er, and Meng Hongchen share a warm and familiar breakfast encounter, contrasting with the chapter’s darker political events.
  • The masked officials’ gathering at the Crown Prince’s Residence signals a broader collective movement and suggests that the empire’s political struggle is entering a more organized phase.

Ch. 184Wang Dong'er's Soul Tool Studies

Chapter Summary: Wang Dong’er’s Soul Tool Studies

Key Plot Points and Events

  • Xu Tianran secretly gathers core members of the Crown Prince’s faction, taking precautions to prevent anyone from recording or tracking the meeting.
  • He announces that preparations must begin immediately for the appointment of a new Crown Prince after the old Emperor’s death. His statement strongly implies that he intends to seize power ahead of schedule.
  • Xu Tianran has abandoned the idea of waiting several years for the old Emperor to die naturally. Instead, he plans to eliminate the Emperor, suppress the Third Prince Xu Tianyou’s faction, consolidate the throne, and begin expanding the Sun Moon Empire militarily.
  • Li Qingming has given Xu Tianran a convenient excuse for the Emperor’s assassination: blame the murder on Li Qingming and Shrek Academy. Xu Tianran intends to use this accusation to justify military mobilization and eventually launch a war against the three great empires.
  • The ministers realize that the meeting may be connected to an imminent assassination. Even those loyal to Xu Tianyou remain silent, understanding that resistance will be meaningless if the Emperor is already dead and Xu Tianran has taken power.
  • At the academy, Wang Dong’er, Meng Hongchen, and Li Qingming are placed in the same grade. Meng Hongchen and Li Qingming begin teaching Wang Dong’er the fundamentals of Soul Tools.
  • Wang Dong’er, who previously disliked Soul Tools, gradually becomes willing to study them. During a meal, Li Qingming explains basic concepts to her, and she demonstrates impressive comprehension.

Character Developments

  • Xu Tianran: Becomes more decisive, ruthless, and politically ambitious. He resolves to seize the throne early rather than wait for circumstances to favor him. His long-term goal is to strengthen the Sun Moon Empire and conquer the other three empires.
  • Li Qingming: Though absent from the political meeting, his earlier suggestion has profoundly influenced Xu Tianran. His identity is being prepared as a scapegoat for the Emperor’s death and the resulting conflict with Shrek Academy.
  • Wang Dong’er: Begins overcoming her aversion to Soul Tools. Her growing closeness to Li Qingming motivates her to learn so that they will have more shared interests. Her abilities also reveal that she possesses unusually powerful spiritual potential.
  • Meng Hongchen: Recognizes Wang Dong’er’s exceptional talent and becomes frustrated that individuals with such abilities are associated with Shrek Academy rather than the Sun Moon Imperial Academy.
  • Tang San’s influence: Tang San’s consciousness remains inside Wang Dong’er but has been suppressed by the emergence of Godhood. This suppression removes the subconscious influence that previously caused her dislike of Soul Tools.

Significant Themes

  • Political manipulation and power consolidation: Xu Tianran treats assassination, propaganda, and bureaucratic preparation as tools for taking control of the empire.
  • Scapegoating and manufactured justification: He plans to blame Li Qingming and Shrek Academy for the Emperor’s death, showing how political leaders can construct false narratives to justify war.
  • Inevitable conflict: Xu Tianran believes Shrek Academy will inevitably oppose the Sun Moon Empire’s expansion, making war unavoidable in his eyes.
  • Personal influence and changing identity: Wang Dong’er’s shifting attitude toward Soul Tools reflects both her relationship with Li Qingming and the weakening of Tang San’s control over her.
  • Talent and institutional rivalry: Meng Hongchen’s reaction highlights the rivalry between Shrek Academy and the Sun Moon Imperial Academy, especially over the cultivation of gifted students.

Character Interactions

  • Xu Tianran dominates his meeting with the ministers, refusing debate and ordering them to prepare for a change in imperial succession.
  • The ministers exchange wary glances but remain silent, aware that openly resisting Xu Tianran could be dangerous and potentially futile.
  • Li Qingming and Meng Hongchen take on teaching roles for Wang Dong’er, guiding her through Soul Tool fundamentals.
  • Li Qingming also explains Soul Tool theory to Wang Dong’er during their meal, strengthening their connection.
  • Wang Dong’er’s desire to share an interest with Li Qingming encourages her academic progress, while Meng Hongchen observes and compares their talents with those of Shrek Academy’s students.

Ch. 185Three Days' Time

Summary of “Three Days’ Time”

Key Plot Points and Events

  • Li Qingming, Wang Dong’er, and Meng Hongchen spend the afternoon shopping in the Imperial City after finishing their lessons. Li Qingming generously buys the girls expensive clothing and gifts, and they later purchase items for him as well.
  • Their outing is interrupted when a mysterious young man in black approaches Li Qingming. Because Li Qingming detects no evil martial-soul aura, he concludes the man is connected to the imperial family rather than the Holy Spirit Cult—most likely Crown Prince Xu Tianran.
  • Wang Dong’er and Meng Hongchen understand that Li Qingming must leave privately. They reassure him and continue shopping, with Meng Hongchen’s status ensuring their safety in the Imperial City.
  • The messenger leads Li Qingming to a heavily guarded, inconspicuous courtyard near the commoners’ district. The location is revealed to be one of Xu Tianran’s secret residences.
  • Xu Tianran personally receives Li Qingming and offers him tea. After sending away the guards, Xu Tianran reveals his ambition: he wants to become emperor and supreme ruler.
  • To gain Li Qingming’s support, Xu Tianran promises to appoint him Imperial Preceptor and provide any resources he desires, including Soul Bones and rare ten-thousand-year spirit herbs.
  • Xu Tianran presents a box containing fifteen ten-thousand-year spirit herbs—apparently nearly his entire personal stockpile—as proof of his sincerity.
  • Li Qingming accepts the offer and declares that, in three days, Xu Tianran can prepare to ascend the throne.

Character Developments

  • Li Qingming demonstrates wealth, confidence, emotional composure, and political awareness. He immediately identifies the likely source of the messenger and remains calm despite entering a secret and heavily guarded location.
  • His sensitivity through the Six-Winged Angel Martial Soul and Angel Spiritual Power allows him to distinguish imperial agents from Holy Spirit Cult members.
  • Li Qingming’s willingness to accept Xu Tianran’s offer shows that he is prepared to intervene directly in the empire’s succession and possesses enough influence or capability to make Xu Tianran’s rise possible within days.
  • Wang Dong’er displays trust and emotional understanding toward Li Qingming. She helps straighten his sleeve, encourages him to go, and does not question his need for secrecy.
  • Meng Hongchen also accepts the situation without resistance and benefits from the protection afforded by her family’s high status.
  • Xu Tianran is shown to be decisive, ambitious, and politically calculating. Rather than waiting for lengthy consultations, he quickly seeks Li Qingming’s support and offers an enormous reward to secure it.

Significant Themes

  • Political ambition and power: Xu Tianran openly declares his desire for absolute authority, while Li Qingming becomes a potentially decisive force in the imperial succession.
  • Trust and loyalty: Xu Tianran risks revealing his secret plans and sacrifices valuable resources because he needs Li Qingming’s loyalty. Likewise, Wang Dong’er and Meng Hongchen show complete trust in Li Qingming.
  • Wealth as political leverage: The fifteen ten-thousand-year spirit herbs symbolize the scale of Xu Tianran’s desperation and the value he places on Li Qingming’s support.
  • Hidden identities and secret power structures: The ordinary-looking messenger, concealed residence, and numerous hidden guards emphasize the covert nature of imperial politics.
  • Confidence and control: Li Qingming’s calm behavior contrasts with the high stakes of the meeting, suggesting that he holds the real advantage despite Xu Tianran’s royal position.

Character Interactions

  • Li Qingming shares a warm, affectionate shopping trip with Wang Dong’er and Meng Hongchen, revealing their close relationship and mutual care.
  • Wang Dong’er and Meng Hongchen quietly cooperate when Li Qingming is summoned, avoiding unnecessary attention and demonstrating confidence in him.
  • Xu Tianran treats Li Qingming with unusual respect, personally pouring his tea and offering him extraordinary rewards.
  • Li Qingming responds without deference, casually accepting the tea and speaking to Xu Tianran almost as an equal. Their interaction establishes a relationship based less on rank than on mutual advantage.
  • The chapter ends with Li Qingming’s bold promise: Xu Tianran’s accession will be possible in only three days.

Ch. 186Conspiracy

Chapter Summary: “Conspiracy”

Key Plot Points and Events

  • Li Qingming and Xu Tianran finalize a conspiracy to assassinate the current emperor and place Xu Tianran on the throne.
  • Xu Tianran provides Li Qingming with detailed files covering the Imperial City, palace layout, guard deployments, and palace contents.
  • Li Qingming plans to infiltrate the palace disguised as a guard and poison the emperor with specially prepared pills. Xu Tianran’s forces cannot deliver the poison, making Li Qingming’s personal involvement necessary.
  • Once Xu Tianran becomes emperor, Li Qingming expects to gain the position of Grand Preceptor and use his influence to establish a powerful organization.
  • Xu Tianran agrees to arrange Li Qingming’s entry into the palace while remaining uninvolved in the exact details of the assassination.
  • Both men benefit from the plan: Xu Tianran gains an earlier path to the throne, while Li Qingming advances his broader ambitions.
  • Xu Tianran believes delaying the coup by several years would allow his younger brother, Xu Taiyou, to mature and make succession more difficult. He also fears that a later purge would fracture the empire’s military forces and weaken the nation.

Character Developments

  • Li Qingming reveals his extreme confidence, strategic intelligence, and willingness to manipulate both political and supernatural forces. He views imperial authority as insignificant compared with his own potential strength.
  • He considers himself capable of killing the emperor, an ordinary Titled Douluo, especially with the aid of his alchemical poisons.
  • Li Qingming’s true ambitions are far greater than helping Xu Tianran. He intends to become the Angel God, possibly advance to God King or Supreme God King, destroy Tang San and the Shrek Seven Monsters, and avenge his family and himself.
  • Xu Tianran demonstrates political calculation and caution. He is willing to exploit Li Qingming while keeping the assassination secret, knowing that Li Qingming cannot expose the plot without endangering himself.
  • Xu Tianran’s gratitude is sincere because Li Qingming’s assistance could prevent a future succession crisis and preserve the empire’s military strength.

Significant Themes

  • Conspiracy and mutual exploitation: Li Qingming and Xu Tianran cooperate because their goals overlap, though neither reveals his full intentions.
  • Hidden ambitions: Everyone assumes Li Qingming merely seeks strength and independence, while his real objective is godhood and eventual domination.
  • Power beyond authority: Li Qingming does not fear emperors or institutions, believing personal strength—and ultimately divine power—is more important than political rank.
  • Political urgency: Xu Tianran wants to act before his rivals mature and before internal purges damage the empire’s armies.
  • Manipulation and secrecy: Li Qingming conceals his divine aspirations from Xu Tianran, the Holy Spirit Cult, Wang Dong’er, Meng Hongchen, and even the God of Destruction.

Character Interactions

  • Xu Tianran supplies Li Qingming with intelligence and seeks reassurance about the assassination plan.
  • Li Qingming remains calm and dominant during their discussion, presenting enough of his strategy to satisfy Xu Tianran without exposing his ultimate goals.
  • Their partnership is based on mutual trust only insofar as both recognize that betraying the other would be dangerous.
  • The chapter ends with Xu Tianran thanking Li Qingming and acknowledging that his help may be essential to securing the throne and preserving the Sun Moon Empire’s future strength.

Ch. 187Assassinating the Emperor

Chapter Summary: “Assassinating the Emperor”

Key Plot Points and Events

  • Wang Dong’er and Meng Hongchen spend the day with Li Qingming’s Fallen Clone but feel uncomfortable because, despite sharing the same consciousness, it is not his original body.
  • Li Qingming privately informs Jing Hongchen of his plan to assassinate the old emperor and replace the empire’s ruler.
  • Jing Hongchen is deeply troubled but realizes he has no way to remain neutral. Because Meng Hongchen is allied with Li Qingming, he must support Li Qingming and the Crown Prince to protect her.
  • Jing Hongchen prepares to contact powerful Ninth-Rank Soul Engineers and arrange support for the coming coup.
  • Li Qingming infiltrates the Imperial City by disguising himself as the captain of the emperor’s personal guards, using the Angel Skull’s ability to change his appearance.
  • He and Xu Tianran’s hidden forces eliminate key imperial personnel, including the emperor’s medicine-testing eunuch, and replace them with loyal agents.
  • Li Qingming poisons the emperor’s medicine and assumes the identity of the eunuch responsible for delivering it.
  • To prevent the Crown Prince’s faction from being implicated, its eunuchs and their associated families are removed, killed, or made to appear as suicides.
  • Xu Tianran waits nervously outside the Imperial City, aware that the operation is a dangerous gamble. If successful, his forces will seize control immediately; if it fails, the emperor may discover his preparations.
  • Li Qingming enters the emperor’s bedchamber disguised as a trusted eunuch and presents the poisoned medicine. The emperor, unaware of the assassination attempt, calmly picks up the bowl.

Character Developments

  • Li Qingming demonstrates increasing confidence, strategic planning, and ruthlessness. He is willing to risk a direct assassination and carefully eliminates evidence linking the plot to the Crown Prince.
  • Jing Hongchen shifts from uneasy observer to committed participant. His loyalty is driven primarily by his desire to protect Meng Hongchen, though he also recognizes his personal indebtedness to Li Qingming.
  • Meng Hongchen and Wang Dong’er show a stronger emotional attachment to Li Qingming’s true body, revealing their desire for personal closeness rather than merely accepting his shared consciousness.
  • Xu Tianran is portrayed as politically calculating but visibly tense. Despite arranging extensive support, he understands that the plan’s success depends on perfect timing and Li Qingming’s ability to deceive the emperor.
  • The old emperor appears physically weak and near death, yet remains powerful and dangerous because of his position and strength as a Titled Douluo.

Significant Themes

  • Loyalty and obligation: Jing Hongchen’s decision is shaped by family loyalty and his past support for Li Qingming.
  • Political power and succession: The assassination represents a struggle to determine the empire’s next ruler and reshape its political order.
  • Deception and identity: Li Qingming’s disguises, body replacement, and manipulation of appearances emphasize the gap between outward identity and true allegiance.
  • Risk and irreversible choices: Once the infiltration begins, Xu Tianran and his allies cannot retreat without exposing themselves.
  • Moral compromise: The plan requires killings, fabricated suicides, and the removal of entire networks of people to ensure political survival.

Character Interactions

  • Li Qingming speaks with Jing Hongchen about the assassination, forcing him to confront the political consequences of supporting Meng Hongchen’s relationship with Li Qingming.
  • Jing Hongchen reflects on how Meng Hongchen’s connection to Li Qingming has eliminated his ability to remain neutral.
  • Li Qingming’s interactions with the disguised guards and eunuchs are entirely functional, as he replaces them to secure the assassination plan.
  • Xu Tianran remains indirectly connected to Li Qingming through their coordinated operation, anxiously awaiting the outcome.
  • The chapter ends with Li Qingming and the emperor face-to-face, as the emperor unknowingly prepares to drink the poisoned medicine.

Ch. 188Battle

Chapter Summary: “Battle”

Key Plot Points and Events

  • Li Qingming realizes that the old emperor has discovered his true identity and intentions. Both men pretend to remain unaware of the other’s deception while preparing to strike.
  • When the emperor raises the medicine bowl, Li Qingming attacks first, using the Divine Sword to pierce the emperor’s throat.
  • The emperor reveals his powerful Blazing Sun martial soul and nine Soul Rings, unleashing the strength of a Titled Douluo. However, he lacks a hundred-thousand-year Soul Ring, placing him at a disadvantage against Li Qingming.
  • Li Qingming summons his God-Level Six-Winged Angel martial soul. Its Ultimate Holy Power suppresses the emperor’s blazing solar energy.
  • The emperor uses his eighth soul skill to generate immense suction, temporarily restraining Li Qingming and disrupting the Six-Winged Angel’s Divine Power.
  • Li Qingming counters by detonating the destructive force within his ice-and-snow sword. The resulting ice shards tear through space, allowing the Destruction Sword to pierce the emperor’s abdomen.
  • Already mortally wounded in the throat, the emperor is consumed and annihilated by the Destructive Power.
  • Li Qingming converts the power of eight other angels into the Six-Winged Angel’s Divine Power, greatly increasing his reserves and enabling him to escape.
  • Numerous powerful Soul Engineers and Titled Douluo arrive to pursue him, but even their high-level Soul Tools cannot stop his flight.
  • Xu Tianran, emerging from the Crown Prince’s Residence with a massive purple dragon martial soul, confronts Li Qingming. Their clash produces a shockwave powerful enough to shake the Imperial City and repel the pursuing experts.
  • After their palm-to-palm collision, Li Qingming uses the force of the impact to launch himself back into the sky and continue fleeing.

Character Developments

  • Li Qingming demonstrates exceptional perception, composure, and decisiveness. He recognizes the emperor’s deception, strikes first, and defeats a Titled Douluo through superior martial-soul quality and destructive power.
  • His strength is shown to exceed that of an ordinary Titled Douluo despite his current status as a Soul Sage. The combined power of his eight angels gives him enormous reserves of Soul Power.
  • Li Qingming’s main limitation is identified as insufficiently powerful soul skills and comparatively low direct damage output, though this weakness is offset by his Divine Power and overwhelming foundation.
  • The old emperor is revealed as a formidable but ultimately outmatched opponent. His attempt to ambush Li Qingming fails because Li Qingming acts first, and he is killed before reinforcements can arrive.
  • Xu Tianran emerges as a powerful new adversary. His purple dragon martial soul and destructive aura are strong enough to clash directly with Li Qingming and create a battle of Super Douluo-level intensity.

Significant Themes

  • Deception and counter-deception: Both Li Qingming and the emperor maintain false appearances, each attempting to conceal that they have seen through the other.
  • Speed and initiative: The battle is decided largely by who attacks first. Li Qingming’s faster reaction prevents the emperor from executing his planned ambush.
  • Power versus rank: Although Li Qingming is only a Soul Sage, the quality of the Six-Winged Angel and the support of the other angels allow him to rival or surpass higher-ranked experts.
  • Destruction as absolute force: Li Qingming’s Destructive Power does not merely wound the emperor; it consumes and annihilates him completely.
  • Escalating political and military conflict: The emperor’s death and the confrontation with Xu Tianran reveal that the battle is part of a larger struggle within the Imperial City, with powerful Soul Engineers and rulers becoming involved.

Character Interactions

  • Li Qingming and the old emperor engage in a silent contest of mutual suspicion before openly attacking one another.
  • Their battle proceeds through rapid exchanges: sword strikes, martial-soul manifestations, soul skills, and opposing forms of elemental power.
  • Li Qingming and Xu Tianran clash directly after Xu Tianran intercepts his escape. Their collision produces a massive explosion and demonstrates that both possess power on a Super Douluo level.
  • The arriving experts are unable to intervene effectively, forced instead to defend themselves from the shockwaves while Li Qingming escapes.

Ch. 189A Great Upheaval in the Imperial City

Chapter Summary: “A Great Upheaval in the Imperial City”

Key Plot Points and Events

  • Li Qingming’s Fallen Clone is blasted away by the Crown Prince, Xu Tianran, after a fierce confrontation. Although the clone appears ready to flee, Xu Tianran’s allies pursue him.
  • Xu Tianran reveals that he suspects the old emperor’s “dragon body” is in danger and orders everyone to return to the Imperial Palace. He also commands the Imperial Dragon Soul Engineer Legion to seize control of the city’s defenses.
  • The takeover occurs with startling speed. The Imperial Dragon Soul Engineer Legion assumes control of the other two legions and the Imperial Guard, carrying out purges and suppressing opposition before anyone can react.
  • Even the Third Prince, Xu Tianyou, is caught off guard. Although part of the legion nominally supports him, the Crown Prince’s faction overwhelms and suppresses those forces immediately.
  • Xu Tianran’s actions make clear that he has prepared a coup in advance. If the old emperor is dead—or simply declared dead—Xu Tianran can ascend the throne without facing an investigation into his own actions.
  • Meanwhile, Li Qingming deliberately slows his Fallen Clone to lure powerful pursuers away from the Imperial City, then repeatedly accelerates to exhaust and frustrate them.
  • The chase moves outside the city, into the region of the Evil Demon Forest. There, Li Qingming’s true body prepares for the next stage of his plan.
  • His true body transforms to resemble the Fallen Clone, fusing the Destruction Angel and Dragon Blood Angel with the Fallen Angel. This combination raises his power to the Divine Level.
  • Li Qingming intends to kill his own clone in a genuine battle, creating the appearance that he has avenged the old emperor. This will help him secure the position of Imperial Preceptor and give him greater influence over the empire.
  • The chapter ends as Li Qingming’s true body and Fallen Clone confront one another. The clone summons the fused Light and Sacred Angels and forms a Radiant Sacred Sword, while the true body releases powerful chains. Their forces collide in darkness.

Character Developments

  • Xu Tianran: Demonstrates his ruthlessness, political preparation, and absolute control over the military. He remains calm after being injured and immediately uses the possible death of the old emperor to advance his succession.
  • Li Qingming: Reveals the depth of his planning and willingness to sacrifice a clone for political gain. He manipulates both the pursuing factions and public perception while carefully preserving his true strength.
  • Xu Tianyou and the rival factions: Are shown to be unprepared for the Crown Prince’s sudden seizure of power. Their military influence is neutralized before they can organize a response.
  • Li Qingming’s true body and Fallen Clone: Their confrontation reflects Li Qingming’s unusual ability to divide, exchange, and recombine powers. Despite being opponents, both are controlled by the same overarching plan.

Significant Themes

  • Political conspiracy and succession: The chapter portrays the imperial transition as a carefully arranged coup rather than a legitimate succession.
  • Control through military power: Whoever controls the Soul Engineer Legions and city defenses effectively controls the Imperial City.
  • Deception and manipulation: Xu Tianran exploits the emperor’s condition, while Li Qingming fabricates a heroic revenge narrative for his own advancement.
  • Identity and self-conflict: Li Qingming must literally fight another version of himself, blurring the boundary between true self and clone.
  • Power concealed beneath appearances: Both Xu Tianran and Li Qingming hide their true intentions until the decisive moment.

Important Character Interactions

  • Xu Tianran exchanges guarded words with the surrounding powerful figures, presenting concern for the emperor while directing them into supporting his takeover.
  • The various factions observe one another suspiciously, realizing that the imperial situation is abnormal but understanding that opposing Xu Tianran may already be too late.
  • Xu Tianran’s faction overwhelms the Third Prince’s faction within the Imperial Dragon Soul Engineer Legion, establishing military dominance.
  • Li Qingming manipulates the powerful pursuers by alternating between slowing down and accelerating, preventing them from capturing him while drawing them away from the city.
  • The true body and Fallen Clone finally meet and silently recognize one another before engaging in a deadly battle designed to serve Li Qingming’s larger political plan.

Ch. 190Framing Shrek Academy

Chapter Summary: “Framing Shrek Academy”

Key Plot Points and Events

  • Two young fighters, Li Qingming and his Fallen Clone, unleash powers equivalent to the Titled Douluo—or even Super Douluo—level despite possessing only seven soul rings.
  • Their battle contrasts divine light, holiness, and life force against depravity, destruction, and Fallen Power, terrifying everyone watching.
  • Two imperial Ninth-Level Soul Engineers intervene to assist the Fallen Clone’s apparent opponent. One wields an Eighth-Level Soul Tool sword, while the other carries a Level Nine Soul Cannon.
  • The Fallen Clone breaks free from the black chains restraining him and immediately redirects his attack toward the two imperial consecrators. With the Ice-Snow Angel’s power supporting Li Qingming and the Life Angel strengthening the clone, their combined attack kills one consecrator and severely injures the other. His Level Nine Soul Tool is destroyed.
  • The watching experts are stunned and become too frightened to intervene. They recognize Li Qingming as a young genius but cannot identify the mysterious opponent.
  • Although the battle appears genuine, Li Qingming and the clone are actually controlling their powers and creating a spectacular confrontation. Li Qingming could not defeat a true Super Douluo alone and would need to fuse the clones and invoke the Eight Great Angels to survive.
  • After receiving a severe wound, the Fallen Clone declares that the old emperor has been killed and proclaims that the Sun Moon Empire will be unable to persecute Shrek Academy for at least five years. He loudly announces that Shrek Academy will endure forever.
  • The imperial experts realize that the emperor’s death is genuine. Their shock turns to fear because the event constitutes regicide, an attack on the throne, and a crime severe enough to bring punishment upon entire families.
  • Li Qingming calmly observes the performance, recognizing that the clone’s final words are designed to frame Shrek Academy. Since the Fallen Clone is truly dead, everyone will consider it implausible that he sacrificed himself merely to shift blame, making the accusation convincing.

Character Developments

  • Li Qingming: Demonstrates extraordinary combat ability, tactical control, and psychological awareness. He understands the limits of his own strength but uses the staged battle and the clone’s declaration to manipulate the imperial forces.
  • The Fallen Clone: Acts as both a powerful combatant and a sacrificial tool. Despite being gravely wounded, he remains composed and delivers a convincing final proclamation intended to implicate Shrek Academy.
  • Imperial Consecrators: Their confidence and aggression collapse when their superior Soul Tools prove useless. One is killed instantly, while the other is badly injured, forcing the surrounding experts to recognize the terrifying gap between the young fighters and ordinary high-level combatants.
  • Imperial Experts: Shift from anger and a desire for revenge to fear and uncertainty after learning that the emperor has died. They become unwilling to interfere in the battle.

Significant Themes

  • Deception and political manipulation: The apparent battle is carefully staged, and the emperor’s death is used to create a false narrative implicating Shrek Academy.
  • The power of reputation and appearances: The fighters’ spectacular abilities and the clone’s convincing final speech shape what the witnesses believe, even when the underlying truth is different.
  • Sacrifice for a larger objective: The Fallen Clone’s death makes the framing plot believable and gives Li Qingming’s strategy credibility.
  • Institutional vulnerability: Despite its powerful guards and Soul Engineers, the imperial palace failed to protect the emperor, exposing the weakness of the Sun Moon Empire.
  • Opposing forces: The clash between holiness and depravity symbolizes the broader conflict between divine/light-based power and destructive/fallen power, even though the combatants are secretly cooperating.

Character Interactions

  • Li Qingming and the Fallen Clone coordinate their powers, combining different angelic attributes to overwhelm their enemies.
  • The two imperial consecrators attack the Fallen Clone’s side of the conflict but are unexpectedly targeted and defeated.
  • The watching imperial and academy experts refrain from intervening once they witness the overwhelming strength of the battle.
  • The Fallen Clone directly addresses the surrounding forces, using his declaration about the emperor and Shrek Academy to manipulate their interpretation of events.

Ch. 191Dynasty Change

Chapter Summary: Dynasty Change

Key Plot Points and Events

  • Li Qingming confronts the mysterious enemy wielding a Six-Winged Angel martial soul. Realizing defeat is imminent, the opponent self-destructs, producing a massive explosion infused with Supreme Fallen Power.
  • Li Qingming survives but is badly injured, with his Angel Wings damaged. His performance shocks the surrounding elders and powerhouses, as he had managed to contend with an opponent capable of killing a Super Douluo despite being only a Seventh-Ring Soul Sage.
  • Some neutral and factional experts consider killing Li Qingming while he is weakened, but his cold, alert stare intimidates them into inaction.
  • Soul Engineers from the Sun Moon Royal Soul Engineer Academy protect Li Qingming with eighth-level defensive barriers and escort him back to Mingdu.
  • The gathered powerhouses realize that no members of the Crown Prince’s faction were present at the battlefield. They infer that a major upheaval has occurred in the Imperial City and rush back.
  • In the Imperial Palace, Xu Tianran has already slaughtered the eunuchs and resistance forces loyal to the emperor and rival princes. With the emperor dead, he takes control of the dragon throne.
  • Jing Hongchen arrives with seven Ninth-Level Soul Engineers. Although they had previously been associated with the Crown Prince’s faction, they remain neutral and appear ready to follow Xu Tianran’s orders.
  • Xu Tianran commands Jing Hongchen to escort the Second, Third, and Fourth Princes to the palace, ostensibly to meet their deceased father and ensuring that they are not harmed en route.
  • Jing Hongchen obeys immediately. Xu Tianran then sits upon the throne, and the gathered powerhouses kneel, proclaiming him emperor.

Character Developments

  • Li Qingming: Demonstrates extraordinary combat ability and resilience. His ability to force a Super Douluo-level opponent into self-destruction elevates his reputation among the empire’s strongest figures. Though wounded, he remains intimidating and politically influential.
  • Xu Tianran: Completes his coup and transforms from Crown Prince into the new ruler. His calm, ruthless behavior reveals his determination, ambition, and willingness to eliminate all opposition.
  • Jing Hongchen: Shows political pragmatism by supporting Xu Tianran’s transition to power. His actions also suggest loyalty or gratitude toward Li Qingming, whose influence likely helped preserve Jing Hongchen and his Soul Engineer faction.
  • The Imperial Powerhouses: Their attitudes shift from uncertainty to submission. Recognizing that Xu Tianran has already secured the palace, they quickly accept the new political reality.

Significant Themes

  • Political succession and power seizure: The chapter depicts a violent transfer of imperial authority, with Xu Tianran eliminating rivals and claiming the throne.
  • Strength as political legitimacy: Li Qingming’s overwhelming combat performance changes how the elders view him, while Xu Tianran’s control of the palace forces others to acknowledge his rule.
  • Pragmatism and factional loyalty: Jing Hongchen and the Ninth-Level Soul Engineers prioritize survival and political advantage over former affiliations.
  • Ambition and tyranny: Xu Tianran’s quiet confidence and massacre of opposing forces highlight the ruthless nature of his rise.
  • The unpredictability of alliances: Formerly separate factions rapidly realign once the Crown Prince becomes emperor.

Character Interactions

  • Li Qingming’s confrontation with the Six-Winged Angel wielder establishes him as an equal to the empire’s highest-level combatants.
  • The surrounding elders hesitate to attack Li Qingming, recognizing both his strength and his dangerous resolve.
  • The Sun Moon Royal Soul Engineer Academy’s Soul Engineers protect and escort Li Qingming because of Jing Hongchen’s relationship with him.
  • Xu Tianran and Jing Hongchen interact indirectly but clearly: Xu Tianran issues him an order, and Jing Hongchen accepts without resistance.
  • Xu Tianran’s final interaction is with the gathered imperial powerhouses, who acknowledge his accession by kneeling and hailing him as emperor.

Ch. 192Sun Moon Treasury

Chapter Summary: “Sun Moon Treasury”

Key Plot Points and Events

  • Following the emperor’s sudden death, Crown Prince Xu Tianran launches an immediate purge to secure the throne.
  • The Third and Fourth Princes are captured at their estates before they can resist. Their wives, concubines, consorts, and maternal relatives are executed, while the princes themselves are taken alive.
  • The youngest prince, initially absent from his estate, is eventually discovered and captured as well.
  • The Imperial City is rapidly brought under Xu Tianran’s control. Ordinary palace guards are replaced by members of the Soul Tool Legion, equipped with powerful weapons and prepared to eliminate opposition.
  • Li Qingming returns to the Imperial City with instructors from the Sun Moon Royal Soul Engineer Academy, including powerful Eighth- and Ninth-Level Soul Engineers. They are confused by the sudden political upheaval but are allowed through after Li identifies himself.
  • In the palace hall, Xu Tianran sits on the throne as the new emperor. Although his succession is technically legal as Crown Prince, the circumstances suggest that he was connected to the emperor’s “assassination.”
  • Xu Tianran acknowledges that Li Qingming made his seizure of power possible, since Li’s actions allowed him to move before the rival princes could strengthen their positions.
  • As a reward and guarantee of continued cooperation, Xu Tianran gives Li the key to the Imperial City Treasury, granting him permission to take any resources he wants—including rare materials, valuable treasures, and even stockpiled Level Nine Soul Tools.

Character Developments

  • Xu Tianran is revealed as highly decisive, ruthless, and politically capable. Despite his physical disabilities and previously limited involvement in state affairs, he executes a flawless coup and eliminates nearly all possible rivals.
  • He also demonstrates extraordinary generosity—or calculated investment—by offering Li unrestricted access to the Imperial Treasury. This shows his willingness to spend enormous resources to secure Li’s loyalty and support.
  • Li Qingming remains calm and emotionally detached throughout the takeover. He shows little reaction to the emperor’s death or the palace’s transformation and carefully avoids being manipulated by Xu Tianran’s tests.
  • Li’s main concern is obtaining resources to accelerate his cultivation, especially his progress toward the Eighth Ring and potentially the Titled Douluo realm. His cooperation is therefore practical rather than genuinely loyal.
  • Li’s earlier “suicide” performance is noted as more exhausting than killing the old emperor, emphasizing his skill in deception and staged operations.

Significant Themes

  • Power secured through ruthless action: Xu Tianran’s ascension is presented not as a peaceful succession but as a violent purge designed to remove every threat immediately.
  • Legitimacy versus usurpation: Although Xu Tianran’s inheritance of the throne is legally defensible as Crown Prince, the suspected assassination and mass executions reveal the morally corrupt reality behind his claim.
  • Political calculation and mutual exploitation: Xu Tianran views Li as the key to his success, while Li views the new emperor primarily as a source of resources.
  • The value of power and resources: The Imperial Treasury symbolizes the immense material foundation of the empire, and Xu Tianran’s willingness to surrender access to it demonstrates how valuable Li’s strength is.
  • Control through fear and military force: The replacement of guards with heavily armed Soul Tool Legion troops shows that Xu Tianran’s rule is established through overwhelming force and intimidation.

Character Interactions

  • Xu Tianran and Li Qingming: Xu Tianran adopts a friendly, almost intimate tone, jokingly inviting Li to sit on the dragon throne and calling him his “great benefactor.” Li recognizes the interaction as a test and responds with restrained formal respect rather than submission.
  • Xu Tianran personally helps Li rise after his bow, reinforcing the emperor’s attempt to cultivate a cooperative relationship rather than impose authority.
  • The emperor presents Li with the treasury key as a tangible pledge of trust and gratitude. Li accepts without hesitation, revealing that both men understand their relationship as a strategic bargain.
  • Li Qingming and the academy instructors: The instructors follow Li into the transformed Imperial City and rely on his identification to pass safely through the Soul Tool Legion’s defenses, highlighting his increased authority and influence.

Ch. 193The Sun Moon Empire's Collection

  • As a reward, Li Qingming is appointed Imperial Preceptor of the Sun Moon Empire, receiving the empire’s highest level of treatment.

  • Li Qingming leaves the Imperial Palace, recognizing that the conflict is unavoidable and that both he and the Sun Moon Empire must continue strengthening themselves.
  • Guided by a eunuch, Li Qingming enters the Sun Moon Empire’s ancient treasure vault using a special key.
  • He examines the empire’s enormous collection, which includes Soul Bones, rare metals, Soul Tool materials, and Spirit Herbs.
  • The vault contains two Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Bones, including one shaped like an eye and possibly belonging to the Evil Eye Tyrant race.
  • Li Qingming takes the stored Hundred-Year, Thousand-Year, and remaining Ten-Thousand-Year Spirit Herbs, but largely ignores the Soul Tools and weapons.

2. Character Developments

  • Li Qingming demonstrates composure, self-awareness, and strategic thinking. Despite receiving a prestigious title, he avoids becoming involved in palace politics and departs immediately.
  • He recognizes both his own limitations—particularly his lack of expertise in advanced Soul Tool technology—and his need to focus on personal cultivation.
  • Li Qingming’s priorities become clearer: he values strengthening his own body and combat power over mastering technological weapons.
  • Xu Tianran displays growing confidence and authority. His public declaration reveals his willingness to use the assassination and palace invasion as justification for mobilizing the empire and starting a major war.
  • Xu Tianran also shows trust in Li Qingming by granting him the position of Imperial Preceptor and access to the imperial treasury.

3. Significant Themes

  • The approach of war: Xu Tianran’s proclamation transforms a personal attack into a national and international conflict, suggesting that widespread destruction is imminent.
  • Power and preparation: Both Li Qingming and Xu Tianran understand that survival depends on accumulating strength before confronting powerful enemies.
  • Personal strength versus technology: The chapter contrasts Li Qingming’s pursuit of individual cultivation with the Sun Moon Empire’s reliance on Soul Tools and technological advancement.
  • Political power and public legitimacy: Xu Tianran uses the deaths and humiliation suffered by the imperial family to rally soldiers and justify military action.
  • The value of resources: The treasure vault represents the empire’s accumulated wealth, while the Spirit Herbs and Soul Bones provide Li Qingming with valuable tools for future growth.

4. Character Interactions

  • Li Qingming respectfully thanks Xu Tianran but maintains emotional distance, signaling that he does not intend to become deeply involved in imperial administration.
  • Xu Tianran responds to Li Qingming’s achievements by elevating him publicly and using his victory over the assassin to strengthen the empire’s justification for war.
  • Li Qingming interacts briefly with the eunuch, who guides him to the treasure vault and waits respectfully while he searches it.
  • His interaction with the imperial treasury reflects his practical judgment: he selects resources he understands and can use, while leaving behind Soul Tools and materials beyond his expertise.

Ch. 194What Happened

Chapter Summary

  • Plot and events: After leaving the Imperial Palace, Li Qingming returns to the Sun Moon Royal Soul Engineer Academy, where Wang Dong’er and Meng Hongchen anxiously await him. They explain that the Imperial City was placed under martial law and that the Imperial Dragon Soul Engineer Legion seized control of the city’s defenses and internal affairs—an act that could be viewed as treason. Once inside Li Qingming’s private laboratory, he reveals that he killed the emperor and helped the crown prince seize the throne. He explains that the succession was planned, the crown prince now controls the military, and Li Qingming will likely be appointed Imperial Preceptor. He later recounts the full battle, including killing two Ninth-Level Soul Engineer royal offerings and displaying Super Douluo-level strength. Finally, he produces a large supply of spirit herbs.
  • Character developments: Li Qingming is shown as extraordinarily powerful, calm, and confident, treating the emperor’s assassination almost casually. However, he also demonstrates trust and consideration by explaining the dangerous events to both women after seeing how frightened they are. Wang Dong’er and Meng Hongchen develop from anxious uncertainty to stunned acceptance of Li Qingming’s power and political influence. Their concern also reveals how emotionally invested they are in his safety.
  • Character interactions: Both women question Li Qingming about the Imperial Palace crisis, but they wait until they are safely inside the laboratory before discussing it. Wang Dong’er comforts him by massaging his head, while both girls react with shock when he reveals that he killed the emperor. Li Qingming reassures them while embracing them, then kisses each on the cheek; they respond with embarrassed annoyance rather than submission, reinforcing their independent personalities and playful relationship with him. He ultimately shifts the mood by presenting the spirit herbs.
  • Significant themes: The chapter emphasizes political power and the fragility of authority, showing how the emperor’s death and the crown prince’s rise are shaped by military control and secret alliances. It also highlights Li Qingming’s overwhelming strength and unusual emotional detachment from violence and political upheaval. Trust and intimacy are central as he shares dangerous secrets with his companions, while the women’s fear and concern reveal the personal consequences of his actions. The lighthearted romantic exchanges contrast with the seriousness of assassination, rebellion, and imperial succession.

Ch. 195Ye Xishui's Arrival

Chapter Summary: “Ye Xishui’s Arrival”

Key Plot Points and Events

  • Li Qingming reveals a vast collection of precious resources, including numerous thousand-year spirit herbs. Meng Hongchen is especially shocked, believing the quantity exceeds what even the Imperial Academy could provide.
  • He brings Wang Dong’er and Meng Hongchen to a high-level research facility containing an assembly room and advanced alchemy equipment. Although the facility originally belonged to Meng Hongchen through Jing Hongchen’s arrangement, it has effectively been given to Li Qingming.
  • Li Qingming begins refining pills from the spirit herbs while the two girls remain nearby to cultivate and keep him company.
  • Meanwhile, Li Qingming’s Light Clone meets a Holy Spirit Cult informant in an abandoned house outside the Imperial City. The informant reports that Tang Ya has returned to Shrek Academy and has been told about her identity, Bei Bei, and other secrets.
  • The Light Clone receives a sealed message revealing that Ye Xishui and Long Xiaoyao will soon arrive in the Imperial City for the emperor’s ascension and the Holy Spirit Cult’s elevation as the empire’s state religion.
  • Li Qingming realizes that Ye Xishui’s arrival threatens to expose several secrets, including Mu En’s death, his own condition, and information Zhongli Wu has concealed.

Character Developments

  • Li Qingming continues to demonstrate his enormous resources, influence, and growing authority. He is capable of using elite facilities and commanding covert operations, but he also recognizes that his position is becoming dangerous.
  • Meng Hongchen is impressed and alarmed by Li Qingming’s wealth and access to spirit herbs. Her easy acceptance of his assistance and willingness to remain beside him reflects their growing closeness.
  • Wang Dong’er stays close to Li Qingming and is comfortable cultivating in his presence, reinforcing their intimate relationship.
  • Tang Ya has returned to Shrek Academy and has begun learning the truth about her identity and connection to the Holy Spirit Cult, though her current whereabouts and relationship with Bei Bei remain uncertain.
  • Ye Xishui is established as Li Qingming’s most immediate threat. She is expected to react violently to Mu En’s death and may oppose Li Qingming’s rise because of his growing power and independence.
  • Zhongli Wu is revealed to have concealed important information, including Mu En’s death, taking advantage of Ye Xishui and Long Xiaoyao’s absence.

Significant Themes

  • Power and political danger: Li Qingming’s promotion to Imperial Preceptor has created resentment within the Holy Spirit Cult, especially because Ye Xishui expected the position.
  • Secrets and deception: The cult has hidden Mu En’s death and Li Qingming’s true circumstances, but these deceptions may soon collapse.
  • Ambition versus control: Li Qingming’s rapid growth threatens Ye Xishui’s ability to control him, making his talent both an asset and a liability.
  • Loyalty and personal bonds: Meng Hongchen and Wang Dong’er’s willingness to stay beside Li Qingming contrasts with the factional conflicts and betrayals surrounding the Holy Spirit Cult.
  • The past resurfacing: Mu En’s death revives the old entanglement between Mu En, Ye Xishui, and Long Xiaoyao, bringing unresolved personal conflicts into the current political struggle.

Character Interactions

  • Meng Hongchen openly questions Li Qingming about the origin of his resources, while he responds silently and leads her and Wang Dong’er into the facility.
  • Li Qingming, Wang Dong’er, and Meng Hongchen share a quiet domestic-like moment as the girls remain near him while he refines pills.
  • The Light Clone intimidates the Holy Spirit Cult informant with his cold demeanor and demands an update on Tang Ya and the message from the Cult Leader.
  • The informant respectfully reports the limited intelligence available from Shrek Academy and admits that Tang Ya and Bei Bei’s movements are unknown.
  • Li Qingming’s reaction to the message shows that, despite his outward calm, Ye Xishui’s return has caused genuine concern and forced him to reassess his position.

Ch. 196Changes in the Empire

Chapter Summary: “Changes in the Empire”

Key Plot Points and Events

  • Li Qingming realizes that Ye Xishui will either try to control him or kill him after learning that he was responsible for Mu En’s death. He understands that hiding would endanger Wang Dong’er, Meng Hongchen, and others close to him, since Ye Xishui might retaliate against them.
  • Although Li Qingming still cannot match Ye Xishui’s power, years of danger, betrayal, assassination, and battles have transformed him into a much more confident and experienced fighter. He no longer feels the same overwhelming fear he once did.
  • A messenger from Zhongli Wu delivers Li Qingming a pellet containing an incomplete blueprint for an extremely advanced tower-type Soul Tool. Even as a Seventh-Rank Soul Engineer, Li Qingming cannot decipher its structure.
  • After examining the blueprint, Li Qingming kills both messengers with blades of light, apparently to prevent them from revealing what happened or from carrying information about the delivered item. He then summons the Dragon Blood Angel and activates his Light Clone.
  • Five days later, the Sun Moon Empire has undergone major political upheaval. Officials are executed, entire families are punished or exiled, while others rise rapidly in the new political order.
  • Xu Tianran officially ascends the throne after the emperor’s assassination. The Holy Spirit Cult is recognized as the Sun Moon Empire’s state religion.
  • Instead of appointing Ye Xishui as Imperial Preceptor, Xu Tianran appoints Li Qingming. This surprises the ministers because Ye Xishui is the Holy Spirit Cult’s true supreme authority and an Ultimate Douluo, while Long Xiaoyao is also an Ultimate Douluo.
  • In a private meeting, Xu Tianran expresses concern about the possibility of killing Ye Xishui. He acknowledges her immense strength and the strategic importance of both her and Long Xiaoyao to the empire.

Character Developments

  • Li Qingming: Shows significant psychological growth. He remains cautious but is no longer ruled by fear. His past actions—including betraying Shrek Academy and killing Mu En—have hardened him and made him more calculating. His immediate execution of the messengers demonstrates his ruthlessness and determination to protect himself.
  • Ye Xishui: Becomes the central threat to Li Qingming. Her emotional attachment to Mu En makes her vengeance nearly inevitable if she discovers Li Qingming’s role in his death.
  • Xu Tianran: Gains the throne but reveals uncertainty about the consequences of confronting Ye Xishui. Though politically powerful, he recognizes that the empire depends heavily on the two Ultimate Douluo of the Holy Spirit Cult.
  • Zhongli Wu: Demonstrates that he is supporting Li Qingming by sending him the mysterious Soul Tool blueprint and apparently preparing for the conflict with Ye Xishui.

Significant Themes

  • Power and political instability: The emperor’s assassination, Xu Tianran’s ascension, mass executions, and rapid promotions show the empire being reshaped through violence and political purges.
  • Fear versus growth: Li Qingming’s changing response to Ye Xishui reflects his evolution from a frightened newcomer into a hardened and capable survivor.
  • Betrayal and survival: Li Qingming’s past betrayal of Shrek and murder of Mu En continue to shape the present conflict, forcing him to make ruthless choices to remain alive.
  • The danger of relying on overwhelming power: The Sun Moon Empire’s strength depends heavily on Ye Xishui and Long Xiaoyao. Losing them could destroy its prestige despite its superior military and technological resources.
  • Political legitimacy and moral corruption: By recognizing the Holy Spirit Cult as the state religion, the empire openly embraces a group condemned by other nations, showing how political necessity overrides morality.

Character Interactions

  • The messenger respectfully delivers Zhongli Wu’s mysterious package to Li Qingming, but Li Qingming responds by killing both messengers once he examines the blueprint.
  • Xu Tianran and Li Qingming meet privately in the imperial study. Xu Tianran voices doubts about eliminating Ye Xishui, while Li Qingming listens calmly, suggesting that he may be more prepared for the confrontation than the emperor is.
  • The chapter establishes an emerging tension among Li Qingming, Xu Tianran, Zhongli Wu, and Ye Xishui, with Li Qingming’s appointment as Imperial Preceptor placing him directly at the center of the empire’s political and supernatural power struggle.

Ch. 197Solution

Chapter Summary

Plot and events

Li Qingming and Xu Tianran confront the danger posed by Ye Xishui and Long Xiaoyao, who would kill Li Qingming if they learned that he had killed Mu En. Xu Tianran briefly considers abandoning Li Qingming or informing Ye Xishui, but rejects both options. He decides that Li Qingming is the more valuable ally because of his potential, abilities, and loyalty, while Ye Xishui and Long Xiaoyao merely use Xu Tianran for their own interests.
Since Li Qingming cannot yet fight Ye Xishui, Xu Tianran proposes concealing the truth by immediately provoking a large-scale war. The conflict would keep Ye Xishui occupied and prevent her from investigating the murder. With Nangong Wan dead and communication within the Holy Spirit Cult disrupted, they believe the secret can be hidden temporarily. Xu Tianran plans to use the old emperor’s murder—blaming people from Shrek Academy—as justification for his accession and a direct attack on Shrek Academy and the three great empires.
Xu Tianran orders Li Qingming to return, remain hidden, and avoid revealing even his true body. Before leaving, Li Qingming recommends Ju Zi, a gifted student from the Sun Moon Royal Soul Engineer Academy, as someone Xu Tianran should investigate for her military talent.

Character developments

  • Li Qingming recognizes that he is currently no match for Ye Xishui and begins thinking more strategically rather than relying solely on his strength. He remains wary of Xu Tianran but is not surprised by the emperor’s momentary hesitation.
  • Xu Tianran demonstrates ruthless pragmatism and political decisiveness. Although he considers sacrificing Li Qingming, he ultimately commits to his investment in Li Qingming’s future and chooses to escalate the situation into war. His confidence is strengthened by having ascended the throne earlier and in better physical condition than in the original timeline.
  • Ye Xishui and Long Xiaoyao are established as overwhelming threats whose alliance with Xu Tianran is based on mutual advantage rather than genuine loyalty.
  • Ju Zi is introduced indirectly as a potentially important future military strategist.

Significant themes

  • Political calculation and betrayal: Alliances are portrayed as transactional, with Xu Tianran constantly weighing Li Qingming’s usefulness against Ye Xishui’s power.
  • Secrecy and survival: Concealing the truth about Mu En’s death becomes essential to Li Qingming’s survival.
  • War as a strategic tool: Xu Tianran intends to use war not only for conquest but also to distract enemies and manipulate public opinion.
  • Gambling on potential: Xu Tianran chooses to trust Li Qingming because of his future possibilities, effectively staking his reign on Li Qingming’s eventual growth.
  • Strength versus strategy: Li Qingming’s superior talent cannot currently overcome Ye Xishui’s power, forcing him to rely on concealment and political maneuvering.

Character interactions

Xu Tianran and Li Qingming have a candid but guarded discussion about Ye Xishui’s threat. Xu Tianran’s brief consideration of betraying Li Qingming reveals the limits of their trust, but he ultimately reaffirms their partnership. He instructs Li Qingming to hide and leave the political plan to him, while Li Qingming contributes by suggesting Ju Zi as a valuable future asset.

Ch. 198Hidden Measures and Backup Plans

Chapter Summary: “Hidden Measures and Backup Plans”

Key Plot Points and Events

  • Li Qingming finishes refining a batch of pills and reflects on his recent troubles. He realizes that his current strength is insufficient and that he must become more powerful.
  • He gives the pills to Wang Dong’er and Meng Hongchen, asking them to remain with him because the outside world may currently be dangerous. Although concerned, they agree and assume the danger is related to the assassination of the emperor.
  • Li Qingming gathers his Light, Fallen, and Ice-Snow Clones to prepare emergency measures. Using a golden storage ring, they divide valuable resources among themselves.
  • The Ice-Snow Clone summons the Ice Empress and Snow Empress, then disguises himself to resemble the Heavenly Snow Woman. He prepares to retreat completely into the Extreme Northern Snowfield, where A-Tai and the Titan Snow Demon Clan can protect him.
  • The Ice-Snow Clone takes numerous precious spirit herbs and materials, ensuring that Li Qingming will have enough resources to revive his bodies multiple times if necessary.
  • The Fallen Clone summons the Dark Demon Evil God Tiger, whose appearance signals that the situation is extremely serious.
  • The Light Clone suppresses his usual light-based appearance, leaving only the Dragon Blood Angel martial soul and condensing enormous crimson dragon wings behind it. The chapter ends as Li Qingming’s clones continue preparing for an impending crisis.

Character Developments

  • Li Qingming: Becomes more aware of his weakness and the consequences of acting without sufficient power. His response is not surrender but careful preparation, concealment, and the creation of multiple survival plans.
  • Wang Dong’er and Meng Hongchen: Demonstrate trust in Li Qingming by agreeing to remain hidden despite not knowing the full situation.
  • Ice Empress and Snow Empress: Are awakened to assist Li Qingming. Ice Empress remains mildly resentful at being disturbed, while Snow Empress stays affectionate and calls him “Daddy.”
  • Dark Demon Evil God Tiger: Recognizes that Li Qingming only summons him during exceptionally dangerous moments, reinforcing the seriousness of the threat.
  • The Clones: Act as coordinated extensions of Li Qingming’s will, each taking responsibility for a different part of his defensive strategy.

Significant Themes

  • Insufficient strength and the need for growth: Li Qingming understands that talent and cleverness cannot replace overwhelming power.
  • Preparation and contingency planning: Rather than relying on a single body or location, he distributes resources and establishes several possible paths to survival.
  • Concealment and deception: The Ice-Snow Clone’s disguise and retreat show the importance of remaining hidden when facing a superior enemy.
  • Trust and cooperation: Li Qingming relies on his companions, clones, spirit beasts, and allies to protect one another.
  • Survival at any cost: The possibility of reviving his bodies emphasizes his determination to endure even if one or more bodies are destroyed.

Character Interactions

  • Li Qingming speaks seriously with Wang Dong’er and Meng Hongchen, asking them to stay by his side. Their exchanged glance shows that they sense the danger but trust his judgment.
  • The Ice and Snow Emperors respond differently to being summoned: Ice Empress complains lightly, while Snow Empress eagerly embraces Li Qingming and asks what they should do.
  • Li Qingming coordinates silently with his clones, who share the same consciousness and require no verbal explanation to understand the plan.
  • The Dark Demon Evil God Tiger questions Li Qingming after being summoned, immediately recognizing that a major threat must have emerged.
  • The Light and Fallen Clones work together as Li Qingming continues assembling his hidden defenses and preparing for the coming confrontation.

Ch. 199Ye Xishui and Long Xiaoyao

Summary: “Ye Xishui and Long Xiaoyao”

Key Plot Points and Events

  • Li Qingming’s Light Clone completes a transformation, merging with its martial soul and taking on the appearance of a handsome young man in a military uniform. He departs, leaving the Fallen Clone with the Dark Demon Evil God Tiger.
  • Li Qingming reveals that Ye Xishui and Long Xiaoyao—both Ultimate Douluo—have returned. Ye Xishui was once connected to Li Qingming and was previously the woman who controlled him. Because she was close to Mu En, she is expected to seek revenge after learning of his death.
  • The Dark Demon Evil God Tiger mocks Li Qingming for repeatedly creating disastrous situations. He recognizes that Li Qingming has now antagonized Shrek Academy and two Ultimate Douluo, despite still being unable to fight an Ultimate Douluo directly.
  • Li Qingming explains Xu Tianran’s plan. The Dark Demon Evil God Tiger agrees that it may work, though it is unlikely to remain secret for long. He reassures Li Qingming that the survival of his main body and final Ice-Snow Clone is what matters most.
  • Ye Xishui suddenly attacks the Light Clone. Her Blood-Colored Demon Puppet unleashes overwhelming blood power across Mingdu. The Light Clone combines the Light Angel with the shattered Dragon Blood Angel and briefly forms a defensive shield, but Ye Xishui’s blood-red tentacles and scythe overpower him.
  • Ye Xishui ultimately bisects and destroys the Light Clone, shocking Li Qingming’s main body and Fallen Clone.
  • At the same time, the Ice-Snow Clone is intercepted outside the Imperial City by Long Xiaoyao, who releases the full power of an Ultimate Douluo through his black dragon martial soul.
  • Long Xiaoyao condemns Mu En’s death, particularly because Mu En was killed through what he considers underhanded methods by someone inferior and dishonorable. The Ice-Snow Clone prepares to defend himself with his Ice Blast Technique.

  • Grief becoming vengeance: Ye Xishui and Long Xiaoyao respond to Mu En’s death with anger and sorrow, turning personal loss into violent retaliation.
  • Strategy versus brute force: Li Qingming relies on deception, clones, and Xu Tianran’s plan, while Ye Xishui and Long Xiaoyao represent overwhelming direct power.
  • Honor and betrayal: Long Xiaoyao particularly condemns Mu En’s death because it resulted from underhanded tactics rather than a fair battle between equals.

Ch. 200All Clones Dead

Chapter Summary: “All Clones Dead”

Key Plot Points and Events

  • Long Xiaoyao learns that Mu En’s severed head has been sent to the Sun Moon Empire. Although he and Mu En had become enemies, Long Xiaoyao is enraged by the desecration of his former friend and refuses to let Mu En’s death become a source of humiliation or political exploitation.
  • Long Xiaoyao clashes with Li Qingming’s Ice-Snow Clone. The clone combines the Ice and Snow Emperors’ power with the Ice Blast Technique, but Long Xiaoyao counters with his dark dragon breath and completely overwhelms the attack.
  • The Ice-Snow Clone is destroyed, causing the Ice and Snow Emperors to return to Li Qingming’s main body.
  • Realizing the danger, Li Qingming puts Wang Dong’er and Meng Hongchen into a deep sleep, seals them inside the laboratory, and secretly asks Jing Hongchen to take them away. He deliberately prevents them from accompanying him into the coming battle.
  • Li Qingming’s Dark Demon Evil God Tiger recognizes that Ye Xishui has lost all reason after Mu En’s death and abandons the fight by returning its consciousness to Li Qingming’s main body.
  • Li Qingming’s Fallen Clone attempts to escape through the Sin Prison Gate into the Demon World, hoping this will provide a chance of survival.
  • Ye Xishui arrives before the gate can open. In her fury over Mu En’s death, she attacks Li Qingming without restraint, using the Blood-Colored Demon Puppet, the Black Death God’s Scythe, and countless vengeful souls.
  • Li Qingming tries to defend himself with Destructive Power and the Sword of Destruction, but Ye Xishui’s overwhelming strength wears down his defenses. She destroys the Fallen Clone just before it can escape through the gate.

Character Developments

  • Long Xiaoyao reveals that, despite his opposition to Mu En, he still deeply values their former friendship. His rage shows that he cares about Mu En’s dignity and legacy, even more than his own connection to Ye Xishui.
  • Ye Xishui undergoes a complete emotional collapse. Her grief and love for Mu En become murderous rage, leaving her unable to act rationally. She blames Li Qingming entirely for Mu En’s death and treats him as an unforgivable criminal.
  • Li Qingming demonstrates self-sacrifice and strategic judgment. Rather than risk Wang Dong’er and Meng Hongchen’s lives, he puts them to sleep and arranges for them to be taken away. He accepts that he may die while still searching for the smallest chance of escape.
  • Wang Dong’er and Meng Hongchen remain largely unaware of the crisis, focused on absorbing their pills and improving their cultivation. Their helplessness emphasizes the gap between their current strength and the battle surrounding them.
  • The Dark Demon Evil God Tiger recognizes that Ye Xishui’s power and fury make direct combat nearly impossible. Its retreat highlights the seriousness of the threat facing Li Qingming.

Significant Themes

  • The destruction of friendship and love: Long Xiaoyao and Ye Xishui both remain emotionally tied to Mu En despite years of conflict, but their attachments manifest differently—Long Xiaoyao seeks to preserve Mu En’s honor, while Ye Xishui seeks revenge.
  • Grief overwhelming reason: Ye Xishui’s mourning transforms into uncontrollable hatred, showing how emotional devastation can overpower judgment and morality.
  • Dignity in death: Long Xiaoyao’s anger centers not only on Mu En’s death but on the disrespectful treatment of his remains and legacy.
  • Sacrifice and protection: Li Qingming protects Wang Dong’er and Meng Hongchen by removing them from danger, even though doing so leaves him isolated and vulnerable.
  • The limits of power and escape: Li Qingming possesses multiple powerful clones and abilities, yet each is defeated in succession. The blocked Sin Prison Gate reinforces how little control he has over his fate.

  • Long Xiaoyao and Mu En: Their former friendship remains powerful despite their opposing positions. Long Xiaoyao’s reaction confirms that Mu En still matters deeply to him.
  • Long Xiaoyao and Ye Xishui: Long Xiaoyao understands that Ye Xishui loved Mu En more than she loved him, but he does not dwell on his own pain because Mu En’s death takes priority.
  • Long Xiaoyao and the Ice-Snow Clone: Their battle ends with Long Xiaoyao’s dark dragon power overwhelming the clone’s combined ice techniques.
  • Li Qingming and Wang Dong’er/Meng Hongchen: Li Qingming silently protects the two girls, puts them to sleep, seals them away, and arranges their escape without giving them the chance to object.
  • Li Qingming and the Dark Demon Evil God Tiger: The tiger warns that Ye Xishui is beyond rational combat and ultimately returns to Li Qingming’s main body.
  • Li Qingming and Ye Xishui: Ye Xishui confronts him with absolute hatred, accusing him of being unworthy of killing Mu En. Li Qingming remains calm and attempts to escape, but she anticipates his strategy and destroys his Fallen Clone before the escape gate opens.
The chapter ends with the Ice-Snow Clone and Fallen Clone destroyed, leaving Li Qingming’s main body as the only remaining part of him and placing his survival in extreme doubt.
