There was no fraud in the official open selection. The top six performers from this assessment were chosen to form the new team.
Huang Chong was the first to secure a full-time spot, becoming the undisputed leader and ace rider of the new team.
Wang Bao and Zhou Zitong followed closely behind, joining the new first-string team and becoming his teammates.
As for the other three newcomers, Zhang Guowei did not send them straight back to their local teams just because they had failed the selection. Instead, they were all kept at the base as reserve riders.
For the three of them, this was an unexpectedly wonderful outcome.
Although reserve riders generally could not represent the provincial team in national-level competitions unless a full squad member was injured and needed replacing, they could serve as key riders in provincial leagues, as well as amateur-level lake circuit races, city criteriums, and the like.
Most importantly, their training environment was exactly the same as the first-string team's, and they trained together.
No matter how they looked at it, this was far better than returning to their local teams.
Different platforms meant different resources.
As long as they performed well enough and improved quickly enough, the three of them would also have priority when future first-string team slots opened up.
