Thick, noisy!
Those were Loki's first sensations after regaining consciousness. He seemed to be trapped in some kind of liquid? Damn it, had Thor really abandoned him and failed to take him back to Asgard?
As soon as that thought surfaced, a rare flicker of panic rose in Loki's heart. He began struggling desperately to ascertain his situation, only to sadly discover that he could not even move a finger.
Carefully testing with his tongue, Loki confirmed that it did not feel the thick liquid like the rest of his body did. Only then did he try to open his eyes.
It was only then that Loki discovered what seemed to be a breathing mask over his face, with that viscous liquid outside it. Just as he had initially guessed, he had been imprisoned on Earth and had not been taken back by Thor.
Because of the liquid's refractive properties, coupled with the distortion and attenuation of sound as it traveled between different media, Loki could neither see what was happening outside clearly nor make out what they were arguing about.
Calm down! Loki, you must stay calm! You are the greatest mage of the Nine Realms, a prince of Asgard. You must stay calm!
After his initial panic passed, Loki kept reminding himself of this internally. He then forced his eyes wide open, trying to figure out his present circumstances.
Through the thick liquid, Loki barely managed to identify the person standing outside his strange prison.
The leader from that bizarre spacecraft seemed to be called Nick Fury? Loki also knew the person arguing with him—the one carrying a round shield. Loki remembered him well, and not merely because they had once fought hand-to-hand.
