The flesh-and-blood monsters appeared to stand between two and two-and-a-half meters tall, but their flesh and skeletal structures were riddled with enormous gaps. If all that flesh and bone were compressed together, they would amount to roughly the volume of an ordinary adult.
Yet no one who saw these flesh-and-blood monsters would think they bore the slightest resemblance to normal adults.
They had no skin whatsoever. Their crimson muscles writhed ceaselessly as if alive, while their internal organs had completely mutated into all manner of forms, exposed to the air and squirming as well. Their heads were nearly fleshless skulls, their eyeballs practically falling from their sockets as tears streamed continuously down their faces.
None of the several dozen flesh-and-blood monsters looked even remotely alike. They charged madly outward, pouncing savagely upon any human they saw. The muscles across their bodies detached and lashed about like tentacles, while the remaining chunks of flesh took on a plated texture.
The instant the flesh-and-blood monsters burst out, the five armed police officers closest to the abandoned building were immediately knocked down. The initial screams had come from them, but after just a few seconds of shouting, they were completely torn apart by the monsters.
The armed police farther away immediately opened fire. Before this operation, they had received authorization from their superiors to fire directly if they encountered resistance. Now that obvious nonhuman monsters had appeared and their comrades had died gruesome deaths, dozens of armed police officers swiftly raised their guns and began shooting.
In an instant, thick clouds of bloody mist erupted from the several dozen flesh-and-blood monsters. They were still carbon-based lifeforms, and bullets from conventional firearms remained lethal to them. But upon closer inspection, most bullets were blocked by their wildly flailing muscle-tentacles, which formed an impenetrable barrier.
