Though Lucian was furious, he had not lost his head. Before the Misbegotten could rush him, he took out the Spirit Calling Bell and gave it a gentle shake.
As magic flowed into it, the Stormhawk, Tinnie, answered Lucian's summons, condensing a translucent gray body from that power.
Tinnie spread its wings after so long, stretching its enormous pinions to its heart's content. It had slept for far too long.
The joy of returning to the world made Tinnie let out a piercing cry.
The cry intimidated the Misbegotten at the forefront. They kept their distance, not daring to advance. They could feel the pressure of a higher place in the food chain.
At the same time, Lucian felt his strength increase. It was the buff brought by Tinnie's cry.
More and more Misbegotten gathered. Seeing their side now vastly outnumbered the enemy, the Misbegotten who had been intimidated no longer cowered and began screeching.
Lucian walked toward the Misbegotten step by step. The blood-soaked mud beneath his feet bore the crimes the Misbegotten could never wash away. Now, it was time to repay blood with blood.
Beating its wings, Tinnie soared through the air, then suddenly folded into a dive. Its talons, carrying immense momentum, tore open a Misbegotten's skull before it flew back into the sky to choose its next target.
Seeing their companion die so horribly, the Misbegotten were enraged as well and charged together.
Lucian gripped his halberd with both hands and swept it in a wide arc. The foremost Misbegotten were either cut in half at the waist by the axe blade or disemboweled by the spear point.
But even more Misbegotten had already lunged at Lucian from every direction.
Lucian poured all the remaining magic in his body into the halberd and stomped down hard.
A raging storm appeared from nowhere. It not only stopped the Misbegotten's attack, but also inflicted massive casualties.
Wind blades stripped the Misbegotten's flesh away inch by inch, exposing stark white bones.
Bone fragments swept up from the ground by the storm shot out with the resentment they had borne in life, piercing deep into the Misbegotten's bodies. The unlucky ones were struck directly in vital spots.
After that move, several Misbegotten died on the spot, while over a dozen were severely wounded.
Lucian knew he lacked the strength to unleash such a violent storm. The Ancient King had intervened, helping control the storm's currents.
That was right. Castle Morne had once seemed to be part of the Storm Lord's domain. Seeing its former territory ravaged by creatures like the Misbegotten, it was only natural for it to feel anger.
Though the Misbegotten's first assault had been shattered, more and more of them emerged from within the castle.
Burly Scaly Misbegotten leaped down from the walls, Winged Misbegotten circled above the rooftops, and dense masses of Standard Misbegotten poured from every room.
There were far more enemies than in the game, and they even called over enemies from farther away.
But Lucian did not panic. He pulled out the Flask of Cerulean Tears and gulped it down, filling his body with magic once more.
"Come, beasts. I'll make you weep and howl in regret that you ever gained your freedom."
Edgar sat on a bench, looking at the residents in the room, waves of helplessness and exhaustion washing over him. He had not rested since yesterday.
The rebellion had erupted too suddenly. With one terrifying roar, Misbegotten throughout the castle had all gone mad.
They had waved whatever weapons they could pick up and slaughtered the people in the castle without restraint.
At first, they had only used tools like cleavers and hammers, but after they broke into the armory, the situation became even more dire.
As the most remote castle, Castle Morne was large, but its armaments were not particularly strong.
Its primary role had been as a training ground, where it trained soldiers for Lord Godrick.
However, after the Tarnished returned to the Lands Between, Lord Godrick had transferred away many soldiers.
As a result, aside from the daily patrols of a dozen or so men, only a standing force of a little over thirty soldiers remained in the castle.
If they had faced external enemies, Castle Morne's unique terrain and defensive equipment would have made it easy to withstand an army of several hundred.
But against the Misbegotten rebellion, Edgar could not even quickly relay orders, let alone suppress it.
The residents in the castle could not receive word to take shelter in time, nor were there enough soldiers to protect them. In the end, they could only be dragged away by the Misbegotten one after another.
Edgar had done everything he could to gather the troops as quickly as possible, but in the end, he had saved only one or two hundred people.
Despair and fear hung over the residents' hearts.
Watching the residents break into tears from time to time, Edgar covered his face with both hands.
Though he was skilled in battle and had inherited all the abilities of a Banished Knight from his father, he was helpless before hundreds of Misbegotten.
The soldiers had also suffered heavy casualties. Only a dozen or so could still fight, and all of them were defending outside the room.
All they could do now was guard this room and the remaining residents.
I wonder how Irina is doing...
When he had ordered the patrol to take Irina and another group out of the castle to seek help, he had not actually expected reinforcements. He believed Castle Morne was beyond saving. By the time Lord Godrick's army arrived, there probably would not be a single living person left.
They only needed to escape the castle with Irina. That was his selfish wish as a father.
"Lord Edgar!"
A young soldier rushed in, panting heavily.
"What is it? Have the Misbegotten attacked?!"
Edgar rose to his feet instinctively and grabbed the halberd beside him.
"No! Someone came in from outside the castle and is fighting the Misbegotten!"
"What?"
Edgar was greatly shocked. Could reinforcements truly have arrived?
"How many of them are there?"
"Only one, but I'm sure there are others coming behind him!"
Edgar's heart sank halfway. If there were others behind him, how could one person have come forward alone?
One person facing hundreds of Misbegotten would only add one more corpse.
Edgar gritted his teeth and ordered the young soldier.
"You and the other soldiers stay here and hold your position. Protect the residents. I'll go meet him myself."
That person had come alone to support Castle Morne. For him, the lord of the castle, to stand by and watch him die would be unforgivably disgraceful.
With the remaining soldiers holding the line, the Misbegotten would not break in anytime soon. He would go out and fight beside that brave warrior. If he could take a few more Misbegotten down with him before he died, it would at least ease the pressure on their defense.
Edgar had not expected to return alive. Dying alongside that unknown warrior was the only thanks he could offer.
Refusing the young soldier's request to accompany him, Edgar seized his halberd and rushed outside.
As he moved through the corridors, the Misbegotten that had once been everywhere had all disappeared. Edgar knew they had all been drawn to that warrior.
You have to hold on...
But when he looked down from the wall, he was stunned.
The unknown warrior was drenched in blood, and Edgar could not tell whether it belonged to the Misbegotten or to him.
There were too many Misbegotten corpses around him to count, all torn to pieces.
At that moment, he was gripping a Scaly Misbegotten by the hair with one hand and holding the Iron Cleaver used by the Misbegotten in the other.
Ignoring the wounds its claws carved into him, he hacked the Scaly Misbegotten's head off with blow after blow.
