Background
In 2043, Lucian was a shut-in gamer who attempted to port Elden Ring to a brain-computer interface by following online tutorials. The malfunction killed him when the device burned out. He awoke in the Chapel of Anticipation, initially believing the port had somehow succeeded. 1
The world’s physical reality, the Finger Maiden’s unobtainable hat, and his inability to exit convinced Lucian that he had truly died and been transported. After respectfully covering the dead maiden’s face with her hat, he resolved to survive rather than wait to die again. 1 2
Though he had never trained with weapons in his former life, Lucian discovered that his Tarnished body retained a warrior’s muscle memory. His mind initially struggled to keep pace with its instincts, but he rapidly adapted to lethal combat. 2 4
Lucian’s familiarity with the original game initially gave him a substantial navigational and historical advantage, but he gradually learned that the Lands Between differs from its game version in crucial ways. His experience among living people, rather than NPCs, eventually gives him a sense of belonging and strengthens his determination to avert the tragedies he remembers. 10 63 348
Appearance
Lucian resembles his former self, but with a more ruggedly handsome and visibly martial appearance. He is commonly seen in full Banished Knight armor, which causes other Tarnished to mistake him for an actual Banished Knight. 43 45
- Wears a full Banished Knight Set with sword and shield when entering dangerous areas. 43 45
- Removes his helmet when speaking to Melina out of courtesy. 44
- His weathered starting armor was gradually replaced after the Castle Morne campaign. 13 43
- His later Nameless King-style armor combines a golden crown, breastplate, and armlets with dark dragon scales, an ash-white mane ornament, and a dark-red scarf. The set changes size alongside his Great Rune-enhanced body. 122
- He later adopts Meteoric Iron Dragonslayer Armour, a formidable dragon-themed set forged from Ancient Iron Meteorite and designed for heavy combat. 434
- In his giant form, Lucian can grow to approximately three meters or more while retaining human proportions; his specially forged armor expands with him. 110 120 122
Personality
Lucian is pragmatic, observant, and highly adaptable. He evaluates risks rather than blindly following game knowledge, avoiding the Tree Sentinel, detouring around a heavily guarded convoy, and seeking alternate routes when direct confrontations are unfavorable. 11 22
Despite becoming increasingly ruthless in battle, he prefers communication when possible. He peacefully approached Hakan, openly stated his intention to become Elden Lord, and maintained that strength should be used by choice rather than necessity. 6
He is protective toward people he accepts as companions, particularly Irina and Melina. He rescues Irina from pursuers, refuses to leave her exposed while fighting Frenzied Flame-afflicted enemies, and promises Melina that he will protect her. 15 24 25
Lucian is also practical about spoils and resources. He regularly loots enemies, sells excess weapons for Runes, and seeks equipment suited to his evolving combat style; however, he sometimes leaves personal weapons or armor with their dead owners out of respect. 13 18 40
As his influence grows, Lucian develops from a survivor seeking the throne into a leader who believes strength must safeguard peace. He welcomes those willing to cooperate or seek protection but declares that those who threaten the peace he is building will be personally executed. 104
Lucian retains compassion even after gaining overwhelming power. He actively tries to change the fates of people doomed in the original game, preserve communities, and ensure that the people who accompanied him do not become casualties of his path to kingship. 158 348
Abilities & Skills
Tarnished Physique and Rune Enhancement
Lucian possesses the strength, resilience, and combat memory of a Tarnished warrior despite his former life as an untrained shut-in. 2 4
- Converts Runes into physical attributes through Melina’s maiden abilities. 15 44
- Gains limited attribute growth through repeated battle and training without increasing future Rune costs. 44
- Endures severe wounds and exhaustion long enough to defeat more than a hundred demi-humans before fighting Singh, the Leonine Misbegotten. 34 39
- Can use a broad range of martial weapons after increasing Strength and Dexterity. 44
- Can use Great Rune power to enlarge his body, substantially increasing his physical power, speed, durability, health, and stamina. 110 120
- His post-ascension incarnation can receive power from his solar true body, allowing every attribute to reach its limit without activating a Great Rune transformation. 454 513
Weapon Mastery
Lucian fights with a flexible weapon loadout, adapting his choice of arms to the enemy and terrain.
- Uses halberds for reach and crowd control, including a halberd equipped with Storm Stomp. 29 32
- Wields greatswords against powerful opponents and groups, including the Lion’s Claw Greatsword. 26 41
- Dual-wields Ritual Straight Swords and activates their Golden Sword Technique, coating the blades in holy radiance. 17
- Uses Quickstep to evade attacks with less stamina expenditure. 26 50
- Employs feints, disarms, terrain, mounted maneuvers, and deliberate injury-trades to defeat stronger foes. 3 17
- Wields the Dragonslayer Swordspear in conjunction with wind, lightning, and mounted combat, including hurling it through Radahn’s body during the Radahn Festival. 122 192
- Can use the Ruins Greatsword to manipulate gravity, form a gigantic Rock Sword, and create limited stone armor around his arms. 193
- Has mastered a broad range of weapons by the time of his later expeditions, including katanas, twin axes, curved swords, colossal greatswords, and specialized anti-undead armaments. 256 298 378
- Manifested the Dawn Sword against the Elden Beast, reshaping it into a battle axe and a colossal hammer before using the Sunlight Spear to pin the divine beast to the Erdtree. 512 513
Storm Arts
Under Edgar’s instruction and the Ancient King’s influence, Lucian studies storm-based martial techniques. 48 49
- Mastered Storm Stomp without relying on its Ash of War, surpassing the original remnant’s efficiency and power. 49
- Can generate a storm around himself and channel wind through a weapon, though advanced techniques remain difficult in actual combat. 49
- Has learned multiple storm-based Ashes of War and footwork techniques through continued practice. 50
- Has not yet mastered Lightning Whirlwind Slash. 49
- Combines storm movement with lightning and weapon throws to achieve bursts of speed resembling teleportation in combat. 192
- Can alter the weather at will with sufficiently strong storm manipulation. 303
- Wearing the Divine Beast Dancing Lion’s head increases his command of wind, lightning, and ice, with the greatest enhancement applied to storms. 303
Sorcery, Incantations, and Gravity Magic
Lucian gradually expands beyond conventional martial combat by studying sorcery, sacred law, and gravity-based techniques.
- Studies sorcery under Sellen and Thops, progressing rapidly through focused training. 120 122
- Uses gravity magic for movement, exploration, combat, and manipulating heavy structures or weapons. 192 378
- Employs Litany of Proper Death to easily destroy skeletal undead protected by deathly forces. 162
- Uses fire, sorcery, and incantations in combination when confronting enemies whose weaknesses require specialized responses. 162
- Uses the Lightning Slash technique acquired from a Death Knight, transforming his body into lightning during its activation. 256
- Can use the Center of Gravity Rune to analyze unfamiliar powers and potentially reproduce or dismantle their underlying principles. 298
Great Runes and Solar Divinity
Lucian possesses multiple Great Runes, which he treats as fragments of fundamental world laws rather than mere sources of physical enhancement.
- Activates Godrick’s Great Rune at the Divine Tower and learns that Rune Arcs increase the blessings a Great Rune can sustain. 106
- Holds Godrick’s and Radahn’s Great Runes by the time he returns to the Two Fingers, while concealing Mohg’s Great Rune from them. 354
- Acquires Rykard’s Great Rune and its power of plunder and blasphemy, enabling him to draw strength from slain enemies. 429
- Possesses four Great Runes after defeating Rykard, leaving only four beyond his control. 429
- Establishes a connection with the Sun through the Gate of Divinity, forms a celestial true body, and ascends into an Outer God. 453 454
- Wields solar flames that can overpower the Elden Beast’s Golden Order flames and negate the laws it commands. 512 513
- Creates and deploys Chains of Heaven, which bind even the Elden Beast and prevent its escape. 514
- Reforges the Elden Ring into a solar order instead of becoming its vessel, creating laws meant to provide peace, prosperity, and equal opportunity to the inhabitants of the Lands Between. 515
Spirit, Soul, and Summoning Arts
Lucian’s travels bring him into direct contact with spirit ashes, deathly realms, and soul-based lifeforms.
- Uses the Spirit Calling Bell to summon spirit ashes and later commands a growing collection of spirit allies. 28 117
- Acquires the Storm Knight ashes, including Oleg, who willingly enters Lucian’s service after being freed from Fringefolk Hero’s Grave. 117
- Works with Roderika to communicate with and tune spirit ashes. 117
- Initially cannot directly harm souls within the Spirit World and relies on Asimi and spirit allies when facing soul-based enemies. 256 260
- Refines a skeletal guardian spirit and gains the ability to summon vengeful spirits. 305
- Carries a Thorn Ring that connects him to the Spirit World and reacts when he approaches relevant deathly rituals or locations. 410
Wind Spirit Moon Shadow
Lucian retains access to an incomplete game-trainer interface, Wind Spirit Moon Shadow, whose functions consume limited energy. 3 4
- Invincibility Mode automatically activated for two seconds against the Grafted Scion, preventing a fatal thrust. Future activations must be manually triggered. 3 15
- Available functions include Infinite Health, Infinite Focus, Infinite Stamina, Zero Equipment Load, Stealth Mode, status removal, enemy-position locking, Rune acquisition multiplication, and Super Damage. 4
- Activated the Rune acquisition multiplier during the Castle Morne battle, greatly increasing his Rune haul. 34 43
- A use was restored after he achieved entry to the Roundtable Hold, bringing his available uses back to three. 48
- Completing achievements can restore uses; defeating the Mimic Tears grants another use, while the God-Slaying Weapon achievement replenishes his supply after the Sword of Night and Flame is reforged. 208 354
- Spends a use on a fivefold Rune acquisition bonus after defeating Radahn. 208
- Cannot use the interface indefinitely; each function expends an energy segment, and its full recovery conditions remain uncertain. 4
Grace Sight and Traversal
Lucian can see and interact with Grace, an ability unusual among ordinary Tarnished. 8 9
- Uses Sites of Grace for rest, recovery, storage, and travel between previously touched locations. 18
- Receives guidance from Grace toward major destinations, including Stormveil Castle. 10 20
- Carries a map magically bound by Melina that displays the Sites of Grace he has touched. 19
- Continues to use Grace for rapid return travel between distant regions while directing Stormveil and conducting expeditions across the Lands Between. 116 255
