Background

Ke Mingqing is a sixteen-year-old high-school student living in Dawn Capital. After crossing into the body of an adopted boy, he inherited the original owner’s memories and joined the Ke family, whose members had treated the original owner as family despite his adoption. His biological parents died in a fire caused by a superhuman. 1 28

On July 1, 2026, an unknown system designated him a “Player” and issued a 179-day mission: “Exterminate Superhumans.” Failure to complete it by the deadline would mean death. 1 10

His first day immediately revealed the danger of his new life. During a school-bus hijacking by Ant Freak, he and fellow player Hitomi Kuroki used the bus’s flashlights to incapacitate the mutant before Rain Crow rescued the students. Ke Mingqing then discovered that Rain Crow was his adoptive father, Ke Mingwei. 1 2

As his player functions developed, Ke Mingqing learned that several members of his household were secretly superhuman: Xia Zili is Magical Girl Ember, Xia Ningzhi is Red Lotus, and Xia Wenna is an alien in disguise. 2 3 10

Ke Mingqing is calm under pressure and habitually treats dangerous revelations with dry humor. When the Player system gave him a mission to exterminate superhumans, he compared it to being handed a boning knife instead of a Poké Ball; when he learned Rain Crow was his father, his first response was to message Hitomi that he was “screwed.” 1

He is highly pragmatic and plans around the system’s demands rather than confronting threats directly. He selects skills for survivability, creates disposable identities, tracks his superhuman relatives, and uses public perception of White Jack and Ember to serve his own objectives. 5 14 17 30

Despite his calculated behavior, he repeatedly protects or supports his family in indirect ways.
