Looking at the thick stack of prosecution materials in his hands, the old judge glanced at the excited "criminals" seated in the courtroom. He adjusted his reading glasses and looked at the portly prosecutor, who was gripping the lectern as if he were having a hard time standing. "Quinn, I'm considering handing down harsh sentences for all of them today. These 'bad guys' don't seem to be here for a trial at all. They're here to meet a celebrity..."
As he spoke, the judge pointed to a bride in a wedding dress and a groom in formal attire in the gallery. "You could have postponed your court date. If coming to court interfered with your wedding, I'd feel terrible.
"Especially since your crime was only, um, driving three miles over the speed limit on Broadway Avenue...
"Oh, when did New York Police get so heartless?
"And are you mutants? I only handle mutant cases here..."
The old judge was still flipping through the file when the bride in the wedding dress, without waiting for prosecutor Quinn to explain, lifted her skirt and hurried to the defendant's seat. Looking a little anxious, she said, "Your Honor, I'm a mutant. I registered with the Mutant Union..."
Judge Capster looked up at the bride standing at the defendant's seat. Amused, he looked at prosecutor Quinn and said, "Have I misunderstood something? This young woman seems eager to ruin her own wedding..."
