Chief George looked at Alvin, inspired by his idea. Why was he under so much pressure now? Because the public didn't know about this.
Once the existence of Vampires was exposed to the public, no one would be able to stop his investigation.
When people learned that a terrifying group of predators, who fed on them, was lurking among them, the force and pressure that erupted would be more than any government department could withstand.
As for whether this would throw Stark under the bus, that wasn't something the Chief needed to worry about. Besides, the guy really wasn't all that likable.
George was a man of action, so he immediately pulled out his phone and made a call.
"Hello, Ms. Pepper. This is George from the New York Police Department."
"Yes, I'm calling about what happened yesterday. We caught a few people suspected of being Vampires, and we'd like you to come identify them."
"We're at the Peace Hotel in Hell's Kitchen. I'll wait here for you. It'd be best if you could bring Mr. Stark along. I think Mr. Stark and Alvin have had a bit of a misunderstanding, and this would be a chance to clear things up."
"Good. I'll wait here. Please hurry!"
Chief George hung up and saw Alvin looking at him with disdain. He touched his face and asked, "What's wrong? Is there something on my face?"
Alvin said sarcastically, "Nothing. I'm just wondering why the head of the New York Police doesn't even have Tony Stark's number. You have to call his secretary when you need something!" He stroked his chin. "George, old buddy, I'm starting to have some doubts about your abilities."
Chief George gave an awkward laugh. "I've dealt with Stark before, but I don't really like the guy, so..."
Alvin stopped giving him a hard time. George seemed like an honest man. Smiling, he said, "You didn't make it over yesterday, so we gave the three Vampires a brief interrogation." His expression turned sinister as he grinned. "They were very cooperative. Want to hear about it?"
Chief George took a sip of Coffee and made a listening gesture.
Alvin gathered his thoughts and said, "They call themselves the Vampire Clan, and they've been around for more than a thousand years. There are two kinds of Vampires: purebloods and Dhampirs. The three we caught last night were all Dhampirs. They weren't much in a fight, just a little faster and stronger than average.
"They'd all been turned by pureblood Vampires to serve them. That warehouse yesterday was where they kept the food for the purebloods."
Alvin pursed his lips and continued, "Apparently, the pureblood Vampires are all ancient creatures who've lived for hundreds or even thousands of years. They've divided themselves into twelve Clans and formed the Vampire Council, which rules over all Vampires.
"They're powerful and influential, and they've got a bunch of Daywalkers cheering them on. They're a real pain, especially for you."
Chief George gritted his teeth and pounded the Bar Counter. "Let me go take a look first. I want to see what these bastards are!"
Alvin rubbed his nose. "I suggest waiting a little longer. Let's go together after Stark gets here. JJ got a little rough when we questioned them yesterday. It might not be a pretty sight."
From Alvin's expression, Chief George guessed what poor Jessica had been through. He readily agreed.
Seeing that Chief George was willing to take advice, Alvin's opinion of him improved considerably. After all, he was counting on George to send his daughter to his school.
Alvin smiled and asked, "What happened to the Illegal Immigrants from the warehouse yesterday? Were they deported?"
The question made Chief George a little irritated. "The FBI took them into custody and wouldn't let Immigration get involved. Alvin, I'm really worried. These Monsters have more influence than I ever imagined."
Alvin reassured Chief George. "You don't need to worry about that. They're just a nuisance at most. There's a reason humans have ruled this world for thousands of years.
"Those things have too many fatal weaknesses. Even if they have a place among the human elite now, they're just castles in the sand. One wave comes along and—poof!"
Chief George felt a little better. "Alvin, tell me about the fatal weaknesses of Vampires. I need to understand my enemy."
Alvin pursed his lips. He was actually a little puzzled. How had Vampires survived until now? Sunlight alone should have been enough to sentence them to death. Were humans all idiots?
Looking at Chief George, he said, "Sunlight, Silver Weapons, Garlic. I don't know much beyond that. Maybe you could email the Vatican and ask." He paused. "That's also why I want to drag Stark into this. Fighting Vampires is way too expensive without a big tycoon sponsoring us."
Chief George nodded and said no more. He'd have to wait until Stark arrived and he saw real Vampires before reaching a final conclusion. It wasn't that he didn't trust Alvin; it was simply a quality every successful leader needed.
Today, a sign saying "Closed" hung outside the Peace Hotel. Alvin and the others waited for Stark inside the Restaurant.
They'd been waiting for quite a while. Alvin even had time to read Ginny a storybook, then call Thor and Dom over so Ginny could ride Thor and play a game of horseback battle.
The energetic Thor and Dom liked Ginny and were happy to play with her. It was better than lying by the door as mascots every day.
Little Ginny was only about as tall as Thor when she stood on the ground. Now she was hugging his neck, giggling as she buried her face in his thick fur, avoiding her naughty Dad, who was tickling her.
It was nearly noon when Alvin realized how late it was. He decided to cook a few things so everyone could eat before they continued waiting.
Just as Alvin's first Steak was about to be ready, Stark's flamboyant voice rang out from the Restaurant entrance.
"Wow, that smells good. Looks like we got here at just the right time!" The flashy, curly-haired man with the little mustache—Stark—walked in wearing a dark red suit. Pepper followed behind him, along with his Bodyguard, Happy, whose nose was wrapped in a bandage.
Jessica had been resting with her head on a table. At the sound of the door opening, she looked up and saw Stark in his "dark red" suit, wearing a greasy smile. She froze for a second, covered her mouth, and rushed into the restroom again.
Alvin felt a little sorry for her. She'd already thrown up all her bile. What could she possibly bring up now?
Stark sauntered over to the Bar Counter and stroked his little mustache. "What's wrong with that girl? Could she be pregnant already because I'm so handsome? Hahaha!"
