Chapter 803: The Future "Black Pearl"
Nick Fury watched Alvin call Kamar-Taj as casually as if he were hailing a taxi.
Not long after leaving, Strange returned to Britain through a Space Gate. Then, while grumbling, the Intern Mage opened a portal for Alvin to the North Pole.
As for the congressman they'd mentioned earlier, Alvin seemed not to care. He left without even bringing him up.
Melinda May was one of the few senior S.H.I.E.L.D. agents at the scene. She walked over to Nick Fury and handed him a few tissues. "Was this worth it? We could've handled the problem ourselves. Why did we have to ask Alvin?"
Nick Fury took the tissues and pressed them to his nose. His voice came out muffled. "You think everything I told Alvin was a lie?
"S.H.I.E.L.D. isn't as 'perfect' as you think. We can't take that risk!"
Nick Fury glared at Melinda May with his terrible single eye. "As for whether it was worth it?
"Your nickname is 'Iron Cavalry,' and it's also the source of your pain. So, do you think that nickname was worth it?
"Melinda, neither of us did this for ourselves..."
Melinda May turned away, her face grim. As she walked off, she said, "I've never regretted what I did!
"It's just my 'conscience' punishing me!
"What about yours?"
Alvin and Steve stepped through the Space Gate onto the North Pole ice cap. He watched, annoyed, as Strange hurriedly opened another portal and fled.
Alvin flipped off the spot where the portal had vanished, then had Angel bring up the navigation system. The Cobra Undersea Base was still more than ten kilometers away.
He helplessly spread his hands at Steve and the others, then said with a bitter smile, "Those mages are all old fossils. Apparently,
