Ethan Hunt's buddy Benji picked up two kids wearing wooden-looking masks at the New York airport.
To avoid a possible pursuit by Baron Strucker, Jason Bourne had Ethan Hunt send him two lifelike masks and two new identities.
Bourne had gone to all that trouble so Wanda and Pietro could completely leave their past behind and start a new life.
Although helping the kids run away might alert Baron Strucker, Bourne was no longer the man who would do anything for a mission. Some things clearly mattered more to him now.
As for whether this might lead to some unforeseen complications...
Bourne figured that as long as someone had a heavyweight like Alvin standing behind them, nothing would be a problem.
Benji craned his neck to look at the two kids in the back seat through the rearview mirror. From the moment they'd gotten in, they'd been unable to stop rubbing at the edges where their masks met their necks.
Clearly, after more than a dozen hours, the kids were already itching to get the masks off their faces.
Seeing that Pietro had already pulled the eyeholes crooked, Benji glanced back at him, made a comical face, and said with a wink, "If I were you, I'd just tear that thing off. You two draw more attention like this.
"The place we're headed isn't exactly safe, but no outsiders can track you there."
Wanda, who was visiting a big city for the first time, nervously rubbed at her mask as she looked out the window. "Is this New York?
"Bourne said he'd find a home here. Where is it? Does it have a garden? A swimming pool?
"I also want a big kitchen. I've been reading a cookbook lately..."
Pietro's hands became a blur as he ripped the mask off
