Ch. 1381The Power Stone
Plot and key events
- Surtur falls into the abyss after Alvin’s Flying Sword strikes him, but manages to throw his greatsword at Hela. Thor catches it just before it reaches her and saves the two elderly Asgardians shielding her.
- The battered Hela collapses into Alvin’s arms. She first pretends to be unconscious, then bites and strikes him while venting her fear and frustration. After a brief emotional embrace, she regains her composure and returns to commanding her forces.
- Alvin gives Hela Spirit Potions, helping her resume the fight. She sends black greatswords into the enemy ranks, while Thor, Loki, Isaac, and others battle the Bio-Men and Skeletons on the Bifrost. Alvin summons Dire Wolves to guard Hela; Fenrir, spurred into action, tears through the attackers.
- Still badly injured, Alvin examines Ronan’s Warhammer and tries to remove the Power Stone. He discovers the hammer is a cage for the Stone, not merely a weapon. Touching the Stone unleashes destructive energy that begins tearing apart his body.
- Alvin fights the Stone’s power with healing potions and help from his summons: the Corpse-Eater Vine supplies life force, Oak Sage strengthens them, Venom shares the strain, and Siyla’s wings redirect the energy into the sky, destroying the attacking ships.
Character developments and interactions
- Alvin remains courageous but recognizes that his earlier decision to take on Ronan through sheer endurance was reckless. Even while injured, he protects Hela, jokes with her, and then risks himself again to handle the Power Stone.
- Hela shifts from exhausted commander to emotionally vulnerable survivor, seeking comfort from Alvin before reclaiming her authority. Their teasing and physical affection reveal growing trust and intimacy.
- Thor demonstrates loyalty by saving Hela and the old Asgardians, despite being gravely wounded. Isaac mocks his appearance and questions whether following him is wise.
- Isaac and the bearded veteran provide comic relief: Isaac is blunt and fearless, while his companion is cautious and worried about offending powerful people. Both ultimately follow Hela back into battle.
- Venom, Siyla, and Alvin’s summoned creatures act as partners rather than mere tools, sharing the danger and helping him withstand the Stone.
Significant themes
- Courage versus recklessness: Alvin’s willingness to endure pain saves others, but his direct approach to Ronan and the Power Stone carries a severe cost.
- Vulnerability beneath strength: Hela’s composure breaks after the battle’s shocks, showing the emotional toll of leadership and survival.
- Loyalty and collective strength: Alvin survives the Power Stone’s energy through the combined support of Venom, Siyla, and his summons.
- Humor amid danger: Banter and absurd reactions temper the violence, reinforcing the characters’ bonds and resilience.
