The Right Way to Hunt for Treasure, Xiao Lan the Blue Eagle, and the Anxious Little Fairy Doctor
She followed him into the cave, looking around curiously.
Moonstones embedded in the walls of the stone chamber beyond the door gave off a faint glow, just enough to illuminate the small room.
A skeleton sat in the seat at the very center. On the bluestone table before it were three locked stone boxes.
There were three corners in the chamber. Gold coins and valuables were piled like mountains in two of them, while the last held a small flower bed made of earth, planted with medicinal herbs.
Little Fairy Doctor quickened her pace and walked to the flower bed, her beautiful eyes widening. "Purple Blue Leaf, White Spirit Ginseng Fruit, Snow Lotus Seed, Ice Spirit Flame Grass..."
That inconspicuous little flower bed was actually planted entirely with rare medicinal herbs!
In terms of value alone, they far surpassed the hundreds of thousands of gold coins and valuables piled in the three corners.
While Little Fairy Doctor was still marveling, Wang Teng walked over, dug up all the herbs, and stored them separately.
When Little Fairy Doctor came back to her senses and swept her gaze around, she found that the three stone boxes on the bluestone table had already been opened. They were empty, clearly having been emptied out.
"Wang Teng! I found this place first! At least leave me something." Little Fairy Doctor touched the medicinal powder stored at her waist, preparing to make a move against Wang Teng.
Wang Teng had his back to her, yet it was as though he had eyes in the back of his head. "Your little tricks won't work on me."
Little Fairy Doctor gritted her silver teeth, her chest heaving violently.
Bastard! So what if you're an alchemist?!
I spent so long preparing for this cave. I even used all my savings to buy pills, hoping to gain something from it.
And now not only had someone intercepted me halfway through, he'd taken everything right in front of me.
"Instead of sulking, come help me," Wang Teng said flatly. "This cave only has one exit. Does it look like a place to split the loot?"
Little Fairy Doctor froze for a moment, then moved closer and asked, "You're willing to share with me?"
Wang Teng stopped picking herbs, tilted his head to glance at her, and asked, "Do I have 'bad guy' written on my face?"
"Hmph, I'll trust you for now." Little Fairy Doctor looked away and helped with the harvesting.
With a man and a woman working together, the herbs in the little flower bed were quickly picked.
"Let's go." Wang Teng did not spare the valuables a glance. His storage ring had limited space, and he could not carry them away even if he wanted to.
Little Fairy Doctor was pulled toward the cave entrance by him. Wang Teng walked so fast that she felt as though she was about to be dragged into the air.
"Slow down," she complained despite herself.
Wang Teng glanced back and muttered, "Such a hassle."
What did he mean? Was he disgusted by me?
Little Fairy Doctor blanked out for a moment. Then her entire body really did rise into the air, landing on Wang Teng's back.
"Wang Teng, why are you in such a hurry? Mu Li is only your guess. I've never told anyone where this cave is." Little Fairy Doctor held Wang Teng's shoulders, wary of the flames coming from his eyes, nostrils, and mouth, and did not dare get too close.
Wang Teng said nothing. He silently quickened his pace, passed through the deep passage, and returned to the cave entrance.
At that moment, faint but dense sounds could be heard from above the cave. They did not sound like they were made by wild beasts.
"Don't speak." Wang Teng poked his head out for a look. Seeing that the torchlight had not yet reached below the cliff, he jumped out of the cave with Little Fairy Doctor.
He grabbed the vines and slid down, and the two hid beneath the platform extending from the cave entrance.
The light from the torches gathering above could not reach this patch of shadow.
Who is it?
A mixture of shock and fear appeared on Little Fairy Doctor's pretty face.
"Young Commander, there's a cave entrance over there," someone on the cliff wall said.
"You few, come down with me," another voice said.
Little Fairy Doctor stared at the back of Wang Teng's head in astonishment. She knew that voice well—it belonged to Mu Li, the young commander of the Wolf Head Mercenary Group.
He had actually guessed right!
Could there really be something wrong with my assistant, Li Fei?
Before long, the sound of people landing came from the platform above them. Mu Li led more than a dozen men into the cave with torches in hand.
The firelight above the cliff wall did not disappear. Quite a few people remained behind to keep watch.
"Climb down. Get out of their sight, and I have a way to escape." Little Fairy Doctor leaned close to Wang Teng's ear and whispered.
Her warm breath brushed lightly against his ear, making Wang Teng's body tense.
He was afraid of this?
That reaction could not escape Little Fairy Doctor, who was on his back. Mischievously, she blew softly against his ear twice more.
Wang Teng's hand, which was supporting Little Fairy Doctor's thigh, gave it a hard squeeze.
Bastard! Pervert!
Little Fairy Doctor was stunned and nearly cried out. In her panic, she bit down on Wang Teng's shoulder and swallowed back her scream.
A sharp pain shot through his shoulder, making the muscles in Wang Teng's cheeks tighten.
"Let go, or I'll throw you down," Wang Teng said in a low voice.
Little Fairy Doctor gave a soft snort. "Who told you to take advantage of me?"
"You were the one causing trouble first," Wang Teng said. "Hold on tight. I'm climbing down."
Without one of Wang Teng's hands supporting her, Little Fairy Doctor slid down a little. She hurriedly wrapped her arms and legs around Wang Teng, clinging to him tightly.
The two slowly slid down the vines to the bottom of the cliff wall.
The firelight above grew dimmer and dimmer.
"That's enough." Little Fairy Doctor patted Wang Teng's shoulder, took out a bamboo flute, and blew into it.
Seeing no reaction from Wang Teng, she could not help asking, "Aren't you curious at all?"
"Curious about what?" Wang Teng asked instinctively.
He was wondering why the side quest had not been completed yet. They had already obtained everything in the cave.
How boring.
Little Fairy Doctor snorted, expressing her displeasure.
Screech!
Soon, the cry of a magical beast came from the sky. A giant azure eagle circled overhead.
Little Fairy Doctor blew the bamboo flute again. The giant eagle immediately locked onto their position and dived toward them.
"Xiao Lan!" Little Fairy Doctor waved with a smile.
The giant eagle was highly intelligent. Seeing the two hanging from vines on the cliff wall, it deliberately spread its wings, lowered its altitude, and exposed its back.
Wang Teng kicked off the cliff wall, borrowed the force to leap up, and landed steadily on the eagle's back.
The blue eagle dipped downward, then immediately stabilized itself. Its wings beat as it began to climb, flying toward the sky.
"This is my partner, Xiao Lan." Little Fairy Doctor climbed down from Wang Teng's back and smiled at him.
Her eyes sparkled as though she were saying, Hurry up and praise me.
Wang Teng merely gave a calm "Oh," his gaze passing over Little Fairy Doctor as he looked down at the land below. Moonlight draped over the forest like gauze.
I really want to throw him off.
Little Fairy Doctor glared fiercely at Wang Teng. From such a height, he would definitely die if he fell.
But forget it. He did help me, after all.
Without him, even if I could avoid that magical beast, Mu Li wouldn't have let me take those things so easily.
Thinking of the treasures in the cave, Little Fairy Doctor finally shifted her gaze away from Wang Teng. Looking down, she directed the blue eagle toward a towering sheer cliff.
Bastard Wang Teng, if you dare break your word, I'll leave you on that cliff and see how you get down!
The night wind was freezing as it howled past, whipping up their robes and hair.
Little Fairy Doctor was the first to climb down from the eagle's back. She turned around on the spot and saw that the sheer cliff towered into the clouds, with not even a trace of vegetation nearby. She nodded in satisfaction.
"Come on. It's time to prove you're not a bad person." She looked at Wang Teng as he landed before her, nervousness and anticipation flickering in her beautiful eyes.
Wang Teng saw through her little scheme and smiled helplessly. He took out three scrolls, along with several jade bottles and wooden boxes.
"These three scrolls correspond to the three stone boxes, and these are the herbs we picked." Wang Teng's expression turned serious. "If you suspect they aren't the items from the stone boxes, I have no way to prove it."
