After their consciousnesses had sunk away and been temporarily replaced, they could now be considered incarnations of the two Yuan Sages, Primordial Simplicity and Tai Ji—or rather, it would not be wrong to say they were one and the same person.
Once this change, nearly imperceptible to anyone, had taken place, the two immediately began withdrawing their qi intentions from within the Golden Court.
There was naturally a reason for this. The Daoist formed from the lotus seed was currently being cleaved by sword intent. The Constant Dao was restrained and unable to lend support, and the dispersal of his body was already inevitable. Yet the five Yuan Sages still had a way to save him, provided no second or third sword came crashing down afterward.
If that intent to slaughter all and leave none alive continued until the very foundation that sustained him had utterly scattered, then even the cultivation of the five Yuan Sages would be unable to restore him.
Thus, the two had to buy time. Directly attacking Zhang Yu or the other great mighty ones was the worst choice, for although the various Daos were presently caught in mutual questioning, should they be disturbed by an outside force, they could not possibly refrain from striking back. That would not count as retreating on their own part. Moreover, even if their Dao arts surpassed those of certain great mighty ones, they could not instantly drive anyone into Turbid Darkness. Such an act would therefore provide no help at all to the battle.
The only method was to throw the Golden Court's qi intentions into disorder.
