Background / History

Rocks was born into the Davy Clan as the son of David D. Axe and Lilith. He left God Valley after declaring that the clan and its homeland restrained his ambitions, a departure that permanently damaged his relationship with his father and fellow clansmen 166.

He became the captain of the Rocks Pirates and rose to rule the seas through overwhelming strength and ruthless ambition. His crew included figures such as Edward Newgate, Kaido, Charlotte Linlin, and Golden Lion Shiki. Rocks sought to overthrow the World Government, crush the Celestial Dragons, and become King of the World 150 376.

At God Valley, Rocks led his crew against the World Government, its Knights of God, and its divine forces. He rejected Im's offer of amnesty, Celestial Dragon status, and a position beneath only Im, instead choosing open defiance alongside Whitebeard and Kaido 172 173. During the battle, Im controlled and demonized Rocks, turning him into an immortal, destructive puppet until Chen Ye purified him and restored his humanity 180 182.

After returning to his clan, Rocks initially met hostility from Axe and the Davy Clan. Despite their estrangement, he warned them that the World Government would target them and entrusted their evacuation to Chen Ye 165 167. His parents later begged Chen Ye to save him, realizing that Rocks had remained behind to face the battle alone 169.

Rocks later learned from Chen Ye that his original fate was to die at God Valley. He agreed to disappear into the future after arranging protection for his family and clan in Elbaf under King Harald's care. He also intended for the World Government to use his disappearance as the cover story for its claimed victory at God Valley 217 218 220.

Rocks is an exceptionally tall, heavily built man with a scarred face and a fierce, predatory presence. His wild black hair and burning eyes reinforce the image of a pirate lord who considers the world beneath him 150 163.

Despite his brutality, Rocks possesses a strict personal code. He accepts direct defeat and respects powerful rivals, but considers betrayal—especially repaying protection with treachery—beneath contempt. He rejects his biological son Teach for betraying Whitebeard's family for personal gain 517.

His ambition does not fully override his attachment to family. Rocks ultimately abandons his immediate bid for world domination to secure the safety of his wife, children, parents, and clansmen. He even bows to Chen Ye to entrust the Davy Clan to him, an extraordinary act for someone so proud 167 218.

Rocks is introduced as the dominant captain of the Rocks Pirates during the God Valley conflict. He opposes the World Government, rejects Im's offer to join the Celestial Dragons, and leads an alliance of pirate monsters against Im, the Five Elders, and the Knights of God 150 172 176.

Im's control turns Rocks into Demon Rocks, making him an enemy of Roger, Garp, Whitebeard, Kaido, and the other combatants. Chen Ye's purification prevents Rocks from remaining Im's puppet 180 182.

Davy Clan Evacuation and Temporal Contract

Following his restoration, Rocks prioritizes the Davy Clan's survival over his personal ambition. He asks Chen Ye to escort his family, arranges their protection in Elbaf, and accepts a temporal contract after learning that he was originally destined to die at God Valley 167 217 220.

Egghead / Future Island

Rocks returns in peak condition alongside Roger, immediately resuming his war against the World Government. He and Roger overwhelm Navy forces, defeat CP0 agents and Knights of God, and confront the Five Elders 374 377 379.

When Im appears directly, Rocks recovers the memory that Im—not Roger and Garp—was responsible for his defeat and demonization at God Valley. He publicly denounces Im and survives her black-light attack with his darkness power 396 397.

Elbaf

Rocks joins Chen Ye, Whitebeard, and Shanks on the journey to Elbaf, where he seeks an opportunity to settle old debts with the World Government 517 525. He identifies Loki's Nidhogg form as a legendary fruit of pure destruction and recognizes that it threatens even the Void Throne 549.

During the Elbaf conflict, Rocks and Whitebeard repeatedly fight as a pair against the Knights of God, Marine Admirals, and Im's surrogates. Im's power severely injures both men, forcing Rocks to confront the limits of his own strength while continuing to fight 581 594 654.
