As heaven moves with vigor, a gentleman should strive tirelessly for self-improvement; as the earth is receptive, a gentleman should bear all things with great virtue. Whether it is Xuanmen or the Confucian Sect, what they advocate is cultivating oneself without relying on others or external things. It is all about self-improvement."
After thinking it over, the saints found that this was indeed true.
In this regard, although Xuanmen did not have as many slogans as the Confucian Sect, it practiced this principle more thoroughly. Its followers withdrew from the world to cultivate, ignored external matters, and were not bound by worldly affairs.
The Confucian Sect, on the other hand, had plenty of slogans, but it could sometimes be troubled by worldly concerns. It chose to aid the world and could not be as carefree as Xuanmen.
Among Xuanmen, the most carefree was Taishang's Human Sect, for the Dao Taishang spread was the Dao of Non-Action.
Though the Dao of Non-Action also carried the meaning of leaving nothing undone, they mostly practiced non-action. Whether it was Taishang or Xuandu, both preferred to silently watch events unfold.
Wu Chu glanced at them and continued, "But look at the Western Religion instead. Just think of the forty-eight great vows Zhunti made when he attained the Dao, and you will understand. The Western Religion's cultivation truly is... If things were as he said, the living beings of the world would no longer need to cultivate so painstakingly. Believing in the Western Religion would be enough. If all beings went
