Wu Chu's words enlightened the students and gave them a greater sense of mission and responsibility. They understood that seeking immortality and the Dao was not merely for themselves.
They were also reminded of a widely circulated saying from the Confucian Sect: when poor, cultivate oneself alone; when successful, benefit the world as well.
Moreover, these words explained why Sages like them sought to educate all living beings, and why the heavenly gods governed the world.
It was not because it was their duty, but because they themselves had come from the mortal world.
Wu Chu's words affected not only the students. Even Sages like Taishang silently pondered them, as though wondering, So that was why?
Was it not because of their own Dao, and the Great Dao Oaths they had made when attaining the Dao, that they had no choice but to do so?
Was it not because they wanted their sects to flourish after doing so that they continued striving tirelessly and spreading their teachings?
So it was simply because they had not forgotten their original intentions and wanted this world to become better and stronger?
Even Zhunti, who had always enjoyed employing schemes, now felt that the methods he had used to strengthen the Western Religion and perfect this world's Heaven and Earth Laws seemed somewhat righteous.
Yuanshi, meanwhile, felt increasingly ashamed. He had always believed that Wu Chu established the First Academy, educated all living beings, and spread the Literary Dao solely to promote his own Literary Dao. Guiding people toward goodness had merely been incidental.
Had he been mistaken all along?
Afterward, Tongtian urged Taishang and Yuanshi to go up and say a few words as well.
The two brothers refused no matter what. Taishang simply did not wish to speak any nonsense, while
