Ch. 121A new little sister, Sheng Cai'er

Chapter summary

  • Key events: Lin Chen carries Sheng Cai’er to a quiet streamside clearing and uses his powers to create a temporary house. He helps her settle in, giving her time and privacy to bathe and change into a pink dress. He prepares her congee, then puts her to bed and stays beside her until she falls asleep.
  • Character development: Cai’er begins the chapter shy, cautious, and intensely afraid of being left alone. Gradually, she accepts Lin Chen’s care—eating, speaking more freely, and asking about his life. She reveals that she is eight and was treated as a tool and “holy maiden” by the Reincarnation Temple. Lin Chen responds with patient reassurance and takes on a protective, familial role.
  • Character interactions: Lin Chen’s gentle gestures—praising Cai’er’s appearance, wiping food from her mouth, holding her when she clings to him, and staying at her bedside—help build trust. Cai’er asks him not to leave; he promises he will not, and welcomes her as his little sister. She says she will remember his name.
  • Significant themes: The chapter emphasizes recovery through safety and affection, the harm of being reduced to a role rather than treated as a person, and the importance of choice and belonging. Cai’er’s first peaceful meal and night of sleep mark a small beginning to a life beyond fear.

Ch. 122Helping Cai'er Fully Refine the Reincarnation Spirit Furnace

Plot and key events

  • Lin Chen stays beside Sheng Cai’er overnight. In the morning, she admits she had been watching to make sure he had not left, revealing how much his presence reassures her.
  • In the courtyard, Lin Chen asks about the Reincarnation Spirit Furnace within her. Cai’er recalls being imprisoned and forced to inherit it, while its power left her without sight, hearing, or speech and caused her pain.
  • Lin Chen explains that the furnace’s power overwhelmed her fragile body and sealed her senses to keep her alive. He then uses his creation power to calm the artifact, remove the Reincarnation Temple’s control imprints, and make the furnace answer only to Cai’er.
  • With the furnace settled, Cai’er’s senses recover. Lin Chen helps her perceive the world around her and draw reincarnation energy into her palm. She embraces him, relieved that the power will no longer hurt or control her.

Character development

  • Cai’er moves from fearful dependence toward confidence and ownership of her own power. She begins to experience the world through her restored senses and learns to use the furnace herself.
  • Lin Chen acts as a patient, protective guardian. Rather than overpowering the artifact, he carefully explains what is happening and helps Cai’er understand and control it.

Significant themes

  • Agency and freedom: Cai’er’s inheritance had been imposed on her; the chapter restores her right to decide how her power is used.
  • Healing and trust: Lin Chen’s steady presence helps Cai’er feel safe enough to confront her painful past and embrace her new abilities.
  • Power guided by care: Lin Chen treats the furnace gently, transforming a source of suffering into a tool Cai’er can command.

Character interactions

  • Cai’er’s shy morning confession confirms her growing attachment to Lin Chen.
  • Lin Chen listens without dismissing her trauma, explains the furnace in terms she can understand, and guides her through sensing and using it.
  • Their final embrace underscores their sibling-like bond: Cai’er trusts him completely, and Lin Chen promises to protect her from anyone who would try to control her again.

Ch. 123Everyday life with Cai'er

Key plot points and events

  • Lin Chen helps Sheng Cai’er recover over several days, guiding her through basic physical exercises and cultivation. His priority is not rapid advancement but helping her experience and control the world through her own senses.
  • Cai’er’s aptitude proves exceptional: the Reincarnation Spirit Furnace gives her unusually abundant spiritual energy, and she is highly sensitive to it.
  • After noticing a flower’s petals fall, Cai’er asks whether she is a petal too. Lin Chen tells her she is a flower, and her curiosity turns to a wish to see the world beyond her confinement.
  • Lin Chen agrees to take her to a lively town. On the journey, Cai’er stops often to admire ordinary sights, then returns to Lin Chen and takes his hand.
  • In town, she tries steamed buns and candied hawthorn for the first time and delights in them. Lin Chen also buys her new clothes and a cloth rabbit.
  • A guild member notices Cai’er’s unusual spiritual fluctuations. She worries that this could make her easy to find, but Lin Chen reassures her that he will protect her and teach her to conceal her aura as she grows.
  • They spend the night at an inn. Cai’er tells Lin Chen it was the happiest day of her life, and he promises that many happier days lie ahead.

Character developments

  • Sheng Cai’er begins to move from fear and deprivation toward curiosity, confidence, and joy. She eagerly explores her surroundings, while still seeking Lin Chen’s reassurance when strangers make her feel unsafe.
  • Lin Chen discovers the quiet satisfaction of teaching a young child from the beginning. He acts as Cai’er’s patient guardian and teacher, valuing her well-being and happiness over power or speed.

Significant themes

  • Healing through ordinary experience: Small pleasures—flowers, scenery, food, and clean clothes—help Cai’er reclaim a childhood she was denied.
  • Growth and transformation: Lin Chen’s explanation of the flower’s life offers a gentle image of continuity and change.
  • Protection and belonging: Cai’er’s fear of being discovered is met with Lin Chen’s steady reassurance that she is family, not a burden.
  • Patience and possibility: The chapter emphasizes gradual learning and the promise of a happier future.

Character interactions

  • Lin Chen teaches Cai’er, answers her questions, and encourages her wonder without rushing her.
  • Cai’er increasingly trusts him, voluntarily taking his hand during the journey and sharing her worries and happiness with him.
  • Their affectionate “big brother” and “little sister” bond becomes the emotional center of the chapter.

Ch. 124Settling the Past, Cai'er Reaches a Tentative Peace with Her Family

Key plot points and events

  • Lin Chen brings Sheng Cai’er to the Assassin Temple’s Reincarnation Courtyard, where she had endured the Six Senses Trial and the Reincarnation Spirit Furnace’s backlash.
  • He confronts the branch head, Sheng Yue, and condemns the Temple for treating Cai’er as a weapon in the name of duty and the greater good.
  • At Cai’er’s request, Lin Chen lays down strict conditions: she alone controls the furnace and her future, and the Temple may impose no more trials or obligations on her.
  • Lin Chen gives Cai’er a violet-jade ring that stabilizes the furnace and restores lingering damage to her senses and spiritual channels.
  • Cai’er’s parents apologize and promise to respect her choices. She cautiously accepts the chance to rebuild their relationship, but only gradually and on her own terms.
  • At a new home by a stream, Cai’er shares a meal with her parents and Lin Chen. Her mother’s date-paste cakes become a small first step toward reconciliation.

Character developments

  • Cai’er asserts her independence, choosing to set boundaries rather than simply accept her family’s apologies. She begins to reconnect with her parents while making clear that Lin Chen’s presence matters most to her.
  • Lin Chen acts as Cai’er’s protector and advocate, ensuring that her choices—not Temple tradition or family pressure—guide her future.
  • Sheng Yue admits that he prioritized the Temple’s legacy over Cai’er’s well-being and accepts that she is free to return only if she wishes.
  • Sheng Lingxin and Lan Yanyu acknowledge their failure to protect their daughter. They offer support without demanding that she resume the Saintess role or forgive them immediately.

Significant themes

  • Personal autonomy versus institutional duty: Cai’er is a person, not a sacrificial tool for the Temple’s cause.
  • Accountability and conditional reconciliation: Apologies matter, but trust must be rebuilt through respectful actions over time.
  • Care and chosen family: Lin Chen’s steady support gives Cai’er security as she considers reconnecting with her birth family.
  • Healing and recovery: The restoration of Cai’er’s senses and the ordinary comforts of home symbolize a life beyond suffering and imposed purpose.

Character interactions

  • Lin Chen repeatedly checks what Cai’er wants, gives her the authority to set boundaries, and assures her he will not leave.
  • Cai’er cautiously takes her mother’s hands and later asks her to make the cakes again, accepting a small, concrete step toward closeness.
  • Sheng Lingxin offers to teach Cai’er skills only if she chooses, while Sheng Yue agrees to stop defining her by her Saintess status.
  • At dinner, Cai’er tells Lin Chen that she can get to know her parents slowly, but asks him to stay close.

  • Love Demon God Sidi tests Lin Chen with her charm and the Heavenly Demon Desire Dance. Neither affects him. Recognizing his extraordinary nature, she accepts his name and says she will share a drink with him if he can truly offer the Demon Race a new future.

Character developments and interactions

  • Lin Chen shows empathy for the Demon Race’s suffering and confidence in his ability to help. His calm, unaffected response to Sidi’s powers reveals that his soul and strength are far beyond those of the Demon Gods.
  • Feng Xiu begins cautiously curious, then takes Lin Chen seriously after witnessing his resistance to the lords’ combined pressure. He orders them to stand down and agrees to hear Lin Chen’s proposal.
  • Sidi initially approaches Lin Chen playfully and tries to unsettle him through seduction. When her powers fail, she shifts to genuine curiosity and respect, while maintaining her confidence.
  • The Demon God lords and palace guards witness Lin Chen’s unusual power and Sidi’s failed test, reinforcing his status as a mysterious, formidable visitor.

Significant themes

  • Exile and belonging: The Demon Race’s desire to stop wandering and find a true home helps explain its conflict with humanity.
  • Empathy beyond appearances: Lin Chen sees the Demon Race as ordinary people with families, joys, and hardships, not merely as enemies.
  • Peace as an alternative to conquest: He proposes a future beyond war and expansion.
  • Power and self-mastery: Lin Chen’s composure contrasts with Sidi’s ability to stir desire, suggesting that his inner strength lies beyond her influence.
